On another subject I just called Coach and they dont have the parts im looking for...
I was looking for a red zipper and tag for this little red Olympics sling pack I found, made for 96 Atlanta games. They dont have anything of that...

Also I was looking for the bottom part of this hardware... They only have turnlocks. I am kinda bummed out, as this one I was hoping to rehab and offer m best friend for Christmas. Shes a minimalist and she doesnt like big bags or anything colored or patterned. I know she would have loved this one, she loves leather and timeless classic things.

Bummer...

I might put on a turnlock instead, I dont know... I feel like it would be a sacrilege since it wasnt a turnlock on the bag in the 1st place....

Hi all, I have been pretty much AWOL for a bit. First I was on vacation and now I am getting ready for loads of relatives to come to my house on Thanksgiving. I have given up trying to keep up with all the rehabs - but I miss rehabbing and hope to be back at it again soon!

We hope you'll be back at it soon too!!

Have fun with your family. This really is the best time of the year.

Here's my flickr link, and I would love some opinions on the last two photos:
The only thing that stops me from dunking her is the fact that as is, that tiny dot of ink showing on the front pocket I can live with. If getting her wet causes that ink to bleed through, I'd just CRY. But, do ya think if I just literally quickly wet her in COLD water, just to reshape her with no aggressive soaping, etc., it might be ok? If the ink is old, its probably set in and probably won't budge, but THAT's unknown to me!!

I love that bag!
That does look like an "aggressive" stain. Maybe instead of dunking the whole bag and worrying about the ink transferring, you could come up with a way to just get that area wet?
Since you're so good with the acrylic paint maybe you could come up with a way to hide it using that.

Let us know how you make out.

Thanks, but this is the 33rd year in a row that I have hosted both our families for Thanksgiving and I am really ready to pass the baton. I would like to enjoy the holiday and visiting with family at someone else's house!

My sister had to force it onto the next generation. Since the family is truly huge ( mom had 8 , so add in 2 more generations plus in laws and step kids) the nieces now arrange for a potluck and hall rental when we all get together. She pretty much said, okay, if you want it you do it. More politely of course.

Maybe check with a cobbler or leather working place to see if they carry a similar push lock?

I'm just about at that point myself!

Here is my latest dilemma...
I found this one, you can tell it used to be a nice bag however it is all banged up and misshaped now. It has 3 different materials, the straw, the white leather and the white suede. I think the suede used to be white or ivory.
I have very little experience with suede, it seems so tricky to me, once its sirty its forever or so it seems.
I have a spray that supposedly cleans suede and tested it and it really didnt make a difference.
The white leather opening is kinda scraped/damaged. Interior lining is fine but theres a row of suede there thats definatly seen better days.
Now, does anyone have any experience rehabbing this kind of bag? I feel its beyond my competence and I prefer leather, I was gonna leave this one up for parts.
Some of the hardware is really nice and amazingly in good shape compared to the rest of the bags. The handles are great too.

What would you guys do?
I dont think the straw thing can be messed with a whole lot....
Looking for toughts and suggestions...

Here are before and after pics of the legacy straw tote I rehabbed. It is trimmed with leather and metallic leather but not suede. I gave it a bath and it came out great. I did have to touch up the metallic leather in a couple of places.

If you didn't spend a lot of money on your straw bag, I suggest giving it a bath and see what happens!

I'm in the opposite boat! DH and I usually go to SIL's house for Christmas, but for the first time we're hosting both of our families for Christmas (hence my frustration with house/contractor issues). We'll have 16 people here and I've never cooked for a group larger than 6!! Should be an experience! Wish me luck!!!

oh no! this answers a question I was about to send to Coach. I need that same spring lock closure for a belt bag. DARN!!!

It would be nice to try to match the hardware but if you can't find it, I think your friend would like a turnlock. If she isn't a Coach fanatic, she won't care. I find the turnlock easier to use. It is better than relegating this cute purse to the trash.

Okay...can't find the before pics, but here is the after of my $14.99 British Tan Legacy Zip from 1997. It wasn't till I dunked her that I realized just how scuffed and worn this poor girl was. This is as good as she's gonna get, unless I try some dying on the problem areas (mainly along the piping and on the strap). Haven't decided if I'm going to go that route or embrace her battle scars. :P

One major bummer...no hang tag. Given recent requests to Coach, I'm guessing they'd just send me a brass one, which I already have from another bag.

So, in all, not super thrilled with this one - my other light color bags came out much better. A lesson in wear and tear on lighter colored bags.
