This is how the sides of the bag are. This part is worse but it shows the condition of the leather. This is the outside view of the buckle area.

That could be. There were black flecks that came off on my hand when I was bathing her. Inside the pockets felt almost slimy in the first bath. I read here that someone else had that happen too but can't remember what everyone said about it. It finally went away after the second wash.

Another thing I noticed with this bag that hasn't happened with any of the others I've bathed, the dish soap suds disappeared and it looked like I had her in plain water, very black water within 5 minutes of putting her to soak. I used a fair amount of dawn and the suds were heavy when I put her in. I had to rinse the suds off the other bags before I put them into the rinse water to soak. This bag killed the suds right away in two different baths. I'm thinking only a chemicals or oil would do that?

I'll give Black rocks a try today then I'll go back to neatsfoot and conditioning the rest of this week! (And maybe next week! lol!) Thanks for the help and advise!
I have had many bags feel slimy inside and they weren't treated with polish. I think it might have been conditioner or natural oils that were being drawn out by the bath.

Thanks for the info! This is good to know. I was hoping it wasn't deteriorated leather! There actually was an oily substance that leached from the bag. So that could be why.

So did you soak in soapy water or plain water? I think I'll put mine back in the bath and try soaking like you did. Thanks!

Wow! I hope mine comes out half a gorgeous as your did!! That came out beautifully.

I may have to take her to the washer like you did if things don't improve. What kind of soap did you use int the washer?
I used Dawn in every soak.

Often I just used Woolite Laundry Soap for delicate items, but sometimes I use the

Just found this one at my local Goodwill. $20 with discounts. I think this will be a great second rehab. Considering my first rehab was just applying Apple and a little black sharpie to corners.

This is a NYC one and I believe it's older than my 1989 Swagger. She has a gorgeous patina and I think she will clean up nicely. I've got her soaking right now, and so far the water is tan/brown. I couldn't detect any smell but sometimes my nose doesn't work!

Anyway, pretty excited.

Thanks katev, I have woolite but I think I'll just order the leather therapy products. I'm sure I'll be glad I did because it seems once you catch this "rehab bug" you can't quit looking for that next project! (Ꭷ-Ꭷ)

Great deal for a great bag! Can't wait for the after results.

Today I bought a City Bag at Savers for $30 after their customer appreciation discount. You certainly got a better deal and I love the color!
