These are my recent rehab projects. I am in love with this! I had no idea that these could have such a new life after washing and stuffing until they dry. These have become the staple of my fall wardrobe and all for under a $100.00.
The city bag looks better in real life and I have not conditioned it.

Beautiful bags! Rehabbing is an addiction!

I have been researching this thread, and you talk about giving these leather bags a bath. I can't find anywhere how you do this. Are you really soaking the bag in a water bath? Please direct me to where I can read how you give the bag a bath, and with what. I have a Bonnie Cashin that I would love to give a face lift to.

Right now I'm really eyeing this vintage Coach portfolio clutch.

The good new is that this is the cheapest I've seen the price on one this size off of eBay, but the bad news is the color! I really want this in a warm, british tan. How much of the blackish color would come out after a long bath and some leather conditioner?

I have the exact same bag which I've given a bath to and have conditioned. If anything, it remains the same or gets even richer chocolate toned. There's a possibility that the sellers photo looks darker than in real life. But, I am not sure this style bag ever came in British Tan. Hyacinth who answers a lot of authenticity questions might know the answer to that. Here's a close color sample of mine.

oops..though I think the colors are supposed to be the same, mine is the Basic bag which also came with a cross body strap as well as the wrist strap, so they might not be the exact same purse

Is your bag lined? I wouldn't probably do this to a lined bag, but all leather works well. I learned from this thread above. Hope it helps.

My mom had that bag in British Tan. It was filthy dirty years ago, so I gave it away. How I wish I had it to rehab.

Here is info about rehabbing a vintage bag and giving it a bath:

I replied before I read the last sentence of your post. Is your bag a Coach Bonnie Cashin or is it another brand, like a Cashin for Meyers?

I gave a bath to a Cashin for Meyers bag one time, but it was a last resort because the bag smelled terrible and mildewy. It came out great but it was a risk, others have dunked Cashin for Meyers bags and had them dry up and crack! Here is a thread about the Cashin for Meyers bag that I rehabbed:

Ask Dem Ram about rehabbing any Cashin bag, she has a lot of experience and will be able to advise you.
