Hello, everyone! I haven't been here in a while, mostly because I'm so busy with school, but also because I haven't had any Coach rehab projects. However, recently, I thrifted a huuuge Coach bucket bag (no pictures yet, unfortunately, though the rehab process is finished!) and today, I thrifted a beautiful red Coach Swagger purse from the late 1980s, according to Hyacinth (thank you for authenticating!). It was $3, and definitely an incredible find. I'm hesitant about giving it a bath because it's in perfect condition (but I'm probably going to give it a bath on Sunday anyway!). I have some pictures that I took quickly and in terrible lighting, so forgive the quality! I'll have better ones before the end of the weekend, hopefully. My question: Would Blackrock be okay to use on a leather of this color? It's a really beautiful red, and I definitely want to preserve the color as best as I can.

What a beautiful bag--the color is wonderful! I have used Blackrocks on a burnt orange NYC Slim Satchel and it did deepen the color a bit. Probably just because the leather was a bit dry and once moisturized it returned to its true color. Your bag looks to be in great condition so I would just use a lighter conditioner. Blackrocks tends to be pretty heavy duty. Good luck!

I would dunk before. You want to get the whole bag wet anyway, I always try to make sure the water has completely permeated the whole bag, so the area with the hole won't take any longer to dry than the rest of the bag.

Can't wait to see how it comes out!

Thanks. I'm going to get started on it this weekend.

While I'm at it, I'm reconditioning this giant duffle (#9085) in British Tan. The bottom was a little dirty and I've been dunking all the rest, so I thought why not? No, nothing bad has happened. But I've come to realize how really big it is! It's more like luggage. Does anyone use theirs on a regular basis?

It's the one that got me started on this crazy Coach rescue business. I saw it at Savers and it was too beautiful to pass up. I've bought six Coach bags plus a briefcase in the last couple of months. It's totally crazy! I gave away the black Swagger bag to a friend who appreciates vintage Coach and wears black 24/7.

My recent purchases:

Duffle 9085 british tan
Maggie Bucket 9019 british tan
Swagger black
Worth 4143 camel or wheat
Mini bucket cross body 9062 black (not sure of name)
Slim satchel with glued in number tan/taupe

I must be crazy!

Hi everyone! I recently purchased a Legacy Gigi in Camel that needs cleaning. It's dirty on the corners and bottom. In reviewing past posts, I see that it is ok to use Apple conditioner. I'm a bit nervous and want to confirm that this is the best option for cleaning. If someone with knowledge could answer, I would greatly appreciate it!

Unless it is misshapen or has bad odors I probably wouldn't give it a bath. I would surface clean it inside and out with non-bleach lysol wipes and then condition the leather. I have successfully bathed red bags when there was no other choice but I also have had a red bag failure, it lost color in the bath. Great find!

A red Swagger!!! How awesome! I love Swagger bags. What a great find :smile1:

I don't think anyone here would call you crazy! :D

Thank you!!! I was thrilled to find it, I'll definitely be using it often this fall and winter!

Thank you for the tip! I definitely don't want to ruin the color, so I'll use a lighter conditioner (Leather CPR?) just to be safe.

Duly noted! I never thought of surface cleaning with Lysol wipes, so I will definitely do that first, and I'll vacuum the interior, just in case. Thank you!

A little off-topic, but I wanted to stop by and say "thanks" to the womderful Coach rehab and rescue folks for making me *brave* since I have done a couple of successful Coach rehabs.

I was cleaning out all my shoes yesterday (to make room for handbags - erp!) and came across two fav old pair of moccasins - a pair of tall black fringed Taos and an ankle high rust pair of Quoddys. They were filthy, stiff, ratty and stained. I was headed to the trash, thinking sadly that I had really loved them once - when a little light went off in my head and I thought "Wait!". And I threw them in the washer.

When they came out I stuffed them with paper towels and rolled up hand towels. This morning they were nearly dry - and looked great! All they need is a light brushing when they are done - and they are completely wearable again!

My old friends are back, and without the guidance of the kind folks at Coach R&R such an idea would never have occurred to me - they would have gone straight to the trash!

Thank you thank you thank you!

LOL-a girl after my own heart. I've thrown more shoes in the washer than handbags! I can't bear to part with something I love if there's a chance of saving it!

awesome!! Yeah once you start getting "brave" with leather cleaning, you find all kinds of uses for that knowledge...I too have done some "off topic" fixups for myself and it's a nice feeling!

That's funny you should mention moccasins. Just this week, after rehabbing a couple of Coach bags, I took a pair of Minnetonka driving mocs that hurt my pinkie toe, and soaked them in soapy water for 20 or 30 minutes, rinsed and wore them while they were soaking wet to stretch them out.

I never would have done it without the experience I gained right here. I want to thank everyone for their generosity in sharing their knowledge.

So funny because I have a pair of Minnetonka mocasins that have seen better days. Now that winter is coming again I think I will get them out and wash them, thanks!
