Very pretty! Excellent job on the rehab:smile1:

Just a question I have a well loved City Bag that I have been rehabbing - the turnlock spins more easily than I would like - does anyone know if it is possible to tighten one up instead of replacing it? The bag is old enough so that I think it is made from solid brass so I would like to keep it of possible - just thought I would ask because all knids of questions get answered here. Thanks again.

The only thing I know how to do is replace it. You might ask a cobbler or a jeweler for advice, sorry.

I am very tempted to look for a large Soho tote but I have no experience washing lines bags. What are your main tips? How do you get the lining facing the leather to dry?

I've washed a few lined bags and I am actually working on one right now. I just wash and rinse in the usual manner, taking care to try and get rid of any spots on the lining while I am washing.

Then I stuff it with towels in the usual manner to shape it and let it dry overnight. In the morning I remove the towels, try to maintain the proper shape, but pull the lining out of the bag as far as possble to let it dry. If there is a zipper pocket in the lining I also make sure to pull the pocket lining out to dry. Then I occasionally rotate the bag as both the leather and cloth parts continue drying.

So far I have not had any problems washing lined bags in this manner, but I have a 65th anniversary black vachetta leather wristlet with the striped legacy lining and it needs cleaning. I'm not sure what I am going to do with it; I am thinking of trying surface cleaning first (inside and out) before taking any drastic steps.

This leather was pretty water proof, it dried superfast. It's heavy leather but it felt "waxy" when it was wet. You could tell it was wet, it didn't totally repel the water, but it didn't get super soaking wet and floppy like the glove tanned bags do. I usually pull the lining out of the bag after it's dried sufficiently to hold it's shape without stuffing. This one was no big deal, it really wasn't dirty it is just heavy and it sort of collapsed on itself so I just reshaped it.

I'm yet to have an issue with lined bags, I know others may differ. The gold "C" lining that is in a lot of bags dries fast and doesn't fade that I've noticed.

what I ended up doing after I called Coach again - I had ordered the turn lock in June - they were out of stock - it is supposed to be coming in 5 to 10 business days - I had a navy Collegiate bag that needs a lot of work, but had a very tight turnlock - I just took off the turnlock part and put it in my City Bag. I also checked a local Coach Store and the young associate knew next to nothing - she was very sweet and told me that she could send my bag to be fixed - I explained to her that all it needed was a new turnlock and the only thing I needed to switch the old one out was a nail file - I used a spoon to press the arms back down because it was in an akward pace - the inside of the front pocket - but it worked quite nicely.

I'm afraid to dunk it because it's so light, and my last attempt at rehabbing a light bag (a stewardess) left it dehydrated and stripped-feeling no matter how much I conditioned. I figured some conditioner would hide the spots on the briefcase, but after it sunk in they are still just as visible. If it IS mildew, should I dunk it with a capful of bleach or mildew killer? Thanks for your help.

I had a stewardess that I bathed and it wasn't until after getting wet that the mildew smell came out. I used a solution of half apple cider vinegar and half water to kill it. I just took a washcloth and got it pretty wet, then swabbed the raw side of the leather throughout the entire bag, especially in the pockets and crevices. I let it dry and did this about two more times. I followed with multiple coats of Leather Therapy since it inhibits mold and mildew. I have not had it come back so far :smile1:

Wanted to add that the apple cider vinegar solution will initially dry out the bag, but the Leather Therapy took care of that easily.

I think this is the post place to post my question. How would you recommend using a Soho Buckle tote? I avoid putting my lunch/thermos in these leather bags to avoid spills. It's not quite wide enough or tall enough to hold files. It's a cute shape but I just don't know how to incorporate it into my everyday use.

I feel a little silly asking how to use a bag...but there it is. This also touches on the whole work/bag problem, which I haven't figured out. I routinely see ladies with a computer/work bag, a lunch bag, a gym bag, possibly a separate purse for wallet/valuables (and regularly am one of these ladies with multiple bags). I just don't have a good solution!
