I think this is the post place to post my question. How would you recommend using a Soho Buckle tote? I avoid putting my lunch/thermos in these leather bags to avoid spills. It's not quite wide enough or tall enough to hold files. It's a cute shape but I just don't know how to incorporate it into my everyday use.

I feel a little silly asking how to use a bag...but there it is. This also touches on the whole work/bag problem, which I haven't figured out. I routinely see ladies with a computer/work bag, a lunch bag, a gym bag, possibly a separate purse for wallet/valuables (and regularly am one of these ladies with multiple bags). I just don't have a good solution!

Do you have a style number or picture? Not a silly question. I pick up vintage bags all the time because they are cute or a good deal (or both!) but I am not always sure how I will use them! In some cases I give them away!

Darn! I just bought a Legacy zip for $38 and I thought that was a good price. I'm not sure about that creed. It looks like a Z plant code and I didn't know that was in the US.

I know there are a lot of fake Legacy Zips out there and that's one reason I mentioned authenticity...It's also missing a "foot" but it seems like someone sent a bag to Coach and they fixed it?

You really can't see the creed well enough on those to tell so it's worth asking for clearer creed pix.

Like this (just using this link for reference, no idea about this seller):

My bag is like this - squared off and with long handles but in black. Unlined and with a single internal zip pocket. It's a cute bag and very much like the size of the L.L. Bean small tote with long handles. I used to carry a thermos in that one but it leaked a couple of times and stained the fabric so I don't want to carry food in this one (though now I know I can wash it!).

Any ideas on good ways to use this in my daily routine would be appreciated. I think maybe for a few books/magazines, maybe to keep in the car as a shopping tote...I don't know.

I had a stewardess that I bathed and it wasn't until after getting wet that the mildew smell came out. I used a solution of half apple cider vinegar and half water to kill it. I just took a washcloth and got it pretty wet, then swabbed the raw side of the leather throughout the entire bag, especially in the pockets and crevices. I let it dry and did this about two more times. I followed with multiple coats of Leather Therapy since it inhibits mold and mildew. I have not had it come back so far :smile1:

Wanted to add that the apple cider vinegar solution will initially dry out the bag, but the Leather Therapy took care of that easily.

Thank you, and thank you Whateve... I'll see what happens with Apple Cider Vinegar~

Nice bag!! if you think it's a good size for lunches but you are worried about spills, I would just double bag the liquids/thermos it in a ziploc or two and you should be good to go!! The beautiful thing about these bags (especially black) is that if you ever had an accident they are tough enough to take a washing.

I do everything I can to find ONE bag that will hold multiple items for me. I just wore your bags' bigger sister the Lafayette Tote to work tonight and it held all my purse items plus my small netbook pc.

A question for rehab experts:

One of my recent acquisitions which I originally called a mini duffle (because that's what it looks like to me) but seems to be a Maggie duffle (#9019) at first glance I thought it was perfect. But a small part of the leather binding near the zipper looks like it was sanded away, and you can see the various layers underneath show through. It's a strange wear, not normal, as if it got near a Dremmel or something. It's small, maybe 1/2 an inch or less. Anyway, does anyone have any idea what I could do to fix it? I was kind of thinking a dollop of glue on the spot would cover and protect it, but of course, I don't even know what kind of glue to use, or maybe there's something else that could be done. Otherwise the bag is in great shape.

Could you post pics of the damage?

I'm sorry about the quality of the picture:

It looks like the piping has worn through or been damaged at that spot. There have been various approaches and used for repairing piping. If you search this thread for piping you should find several examples

My approach is to take the hangtag to the hobby store and buy a matching tube of heavy acrylic paint and a paintbrush. Then I apply multiple thin layers of paint, letting them dry in between, to build up and camouflage the area.

There are some leather filler products that have also been used successfully. I am sure that others will have some advice for you too. Good luck!

Thanks, I'll head over to the craft store tomorrow.

I have a Janice's Legacy I am working on right now that had a similar piping issue. The hole on my bag gaped a bit, so before going after it with acrylic paint, I used Fabric Fusion to close up the hole. I used a small paintbrush, brushed the glue into the hole and under the loose leather on the hole sides, then pushed the hole closed. I held it closed with my fingers for a few minutes, then used a small piece of fabric and a binder clip over the top of that, to hold the hole closed while the glue really set. The hole is basically gone and now I will be able to just touch up with acrylic paint.

That sounds like a great idea. Would I do this after dunking the bag? Or is that stuff waterproof? If I dunk this bag first, maybe I should somehow keep this part covered. If water got into this spot it might make it worse or take forever to dry.

I would dunk before. You want to get the whole bag wet anyway, I always try to make sure the water has completely permeated the whole bag, so the area with the hole won't take any longer to dry than the rest of the bag.

Can't wait to see how it comes out!

Hello, everyone! I haven't been here in a while, mostly because I'm so busy with school, but also because I haven't had any Coach rehab projects. However, recently, I thrifted a huuuge Coach bucket bag (no pictures yet, unfortunately, though the rehab process is finished!) and today, I thrifted a beautiful red Coach Swagger purse from the late 1980s, according to Hyacinth (thank you for authenticating!). It was $3, and definitely an incredible find. I'm hesitant about giving it a bath because it's in perfect condition (but I'm probably going to give it a bath on Sunday anyway!). I have some pictures that I took quickly and in terrible lighting, so forgive the quality! I'll have better ones before the end of the weekend, hopefully. My question: Would Blackrock be okay to use on a leather of this color? It's a really beautiful red, and I definitely want to preserve the color as best as I can.
