Lenox is all done! She didn't need much work...just some reshaping, so a quick dunk with a dash of Woolite. This is a roomy bag! The only real challenge was the flap - unlike other vintage flap bags, this one is leather on both sides so getting the two layers to dry without any warps was a bit of a challenge, but I think it turned out okay. No scuffs or scratches anywhere - I think this bag was rarely used. Just a couple of coats of Leather CPR and a coat of Cadillac to bring out the shine. Even the edging is in great shape - one coat of Edge Kote and voila...complete!

These are all after pics as there's not much contrast - just not as flat and she's now more shiny. :)

That Lenox is one cool bag :D Did you use clear edgekote?

Coupla new "before & after" pics :)
First is a British Tan City Bag, easy rehab because mostly she was just flaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaat!
Second is a Black Dinky Bag, she had a coupla dents & really tarnished hardware, but overall pretty good shape & rehabbed easily.
Good job! How did you get rid of the dents in the Dinky bag? Did they disappear when you washed her? I haven't had much luck with dents!

Woot, look good!

Dinky twins! Its a great bag for thrifting btw, fits under a coat easily and holds just a wallet and smartphone.

actually both twins, I have the same city bag, but mine is in much rougher shape.

I will and I'll tell you about the lucky winner, too. I work for a low income college prep charter school, and we are selling tickets on this $2 each, 3/$5. Someone who would not otherwise have access to something like this will be very happy.

I'm not sure who I'm most rooting for - the little 7th grade girl who has heard about this and can't wait to buy a ticket, the pink-haired high school senior who spent the summer on scholarship in Morrocco and has a taste for lovely things, or the senior high school boy, elegant and openly gay, who wants to buy ALL the tickets because he MUST have a Coach bag.

If we do well with this, I'll be seeking out other rehab projects to use for fundraising. This was pretty easy and fun.

Hey Merm, I wanted to ask you how you feel about the Leather Refinisher now that you have been using your bag awhile. Does it feel like real leather? Is it wearing well? Would you use it again?

I thought I would post the after photos. The difference isn't dramatic in the photos, but she looks much better than she did. At least she is clean now. I haven't put her tag back on because I need to find leather glue and put the two parts back together.

After:

Lookin good. I LOVE that green. I've been stalking green sonomas on the bay. Just haven't been able to land one yet.

I just washed a brit tan sonoma small bucket in the washing machine and she's handled it all pretty well so far!! Drying now too.

Here is the black crossbody companion I picked up (post 2068):

And the reveal - my first rehab! The white spot on the back is an artifact of the camera and not actually on the bag. I'll be raffling this at school (6-12) to raise funds for my robotics team. Almost all the little girls, some of the boys, and more than a few staff members want a chance at a nice vintage Coach bag :yahoo:

What a beauty! and such a great cause!

She so pretty! Yeah the double leather is kinda hard to do! I haven't always had good luck with it sadly! But even when they are a bit bubbly they still look so GREAT when plumped up and looking full and shiny!

Hello everyone, my new project is a Tan City Bag. I had to have it. It has stains on the back. Some kind of oil? So I bathed it twice with Woolite. Cleaned it as good as I could. I let it soak. I hope the stains don't show up to much after it dries and use leather conditioner. I will wear it anyway. I wanted a City Bag so bad.

purple cosmetic bag: badly stained and had a bottle of some kind of patchouli type scent (oil?) dumped in it. The oil must have leached a bit of purple dye into the lining which wouldn't go away, but I'd say its better

Bumping... because I found your bag's brown twin at the thrift store today! May I ask what you did to get the stains out? Any bleeding from the leather to the lining? Thanks for any tips!

The Crescent Bag I used it on looks just fine. I mean, it looks just slightly different, but still looks like real leather and the SAs at stores I've shown it to had no idea what I did to it until I told them. I definitely plan to use it again on future bags that are "beyond help". :D

I am rehabbing a beautiful black Station bag and have hit a potential snag. The bag was dunked and 2 coats of Leather CPR have been applied. She's still damp, but white lines have thickened at the seams. They were there when I first dunked the bag and I assumed that the dye hadn't originally reached the seam I'm not sure if it's my imagination but it seems like they've thickened. The bag didn't originally have an odor and it still smells like wet leather - could this be mildew ? If so, is there anything I can do about it? The bag is otherwise in wonderful shape.
