Such a pretty bag in a great color! NIce job!!

LOL-you know me, I have no willpower! By the time you responded I'd already dunked her! You all can't leave me unattended for so long!

She looks pretty much the same or I'd post pix. I think some of the creases came out but they are in the areas where they'll return with use because of the way satchels are constructed so I'm not sure if it was worth doing. The C's are fine though, and now I know she's nice and clean so I guess no harm done.

The weird thing is that she dried almost immediately! You know how sometimes you dunk a leather bag and some parts don't absorb the water well and don't "darken"? She had a couple spots like that, but the rest of the leather seemed to soak up the water just fine. I scrubbed out the lining and stuffed her with towels and hung her out on the back patio. It was about 9 PM and it's been rainy here and it was chilly out and as damp as it ever gets. I went to check on her after about an hour and she was half dry! Never seen that and I've washed some newer bags in the past, as you know. I rubbed some emu oil in-I was actually worried she'd end up with water lines because she was drying too fast.

I watched a movie and before I went to bed I checked again and she was pretty much dry except for where the pockets were and where there are double layers on the bottom. I figured I'd rub in some Black Rocks before I went to bed, I buffed her out in the morning. I think she's completely dry but I'll give it one more day...oh heck since I'm talking about her, here's another pic of little Miss Daphne Satchel:

This is a really pretty bag!! And I'm not normally a siggy girl !! Nice find!

AND-while we are talking about suede, I've been meaning to take pix of this and post. There are no before pictures because the bag was just a little dirty. You may have noticed I love suede bags and the problem with buying an expensive suede bag is you aren't going to be able to wipe it clean and condition it like smooth leather, it's harder to get it out when it is dirty.

Anyway, I paid $99 for this Flint Suede Editorial Zoe and it was just a little dirty. I debated for a few days whether or not to wash her, because it wasn't that noticeable, and I held my breath when I finally broke down and did so. This is the bag I put in a net bag, btw. There's not much to see, except that she came out just fine.

you and me and our love of suede! This bag is awesome!!!

Another TPFer suggested I pop into this thread. I am not going to be afraid to buy some of those used, but lovely bags I see out there. I just picked up a vintage Gucci and the handles are so dark in the center. Am I better off cleaning them or trying to darken the rest of the handles as well?

And please let me know if I should post this elsewhere. Thanks in advance.

You can try cleaning them but usually the darkening doesn't come off completely. Can you post pictures?

Me either but this was too cool to pass up. I haven't spent a lot of time looking for it on the Wayback machine, but hunted down a couple of posts about it here and it seems to have been a somewhat limited edition. It's a very nice bag, pretty small, but there is apparently a large version lurking around out there waiting for me!

Gluttons for punishment, we are! I only posted these pix to show how well it held up. I know the picture is horrible but y'all get the idea.

Nope, it wasn't the brasso, I didn't get it anywhere but just around the metal and that was immediately wiped up and wiped off with a soapy q tip. That area looks find. Its just weird and random.
I have had that happen - weird spots turn up that I didn't notice before. I don't know if it was because the whole thing was so dirty that I didn't notice or if there was something that bled through as a result of soaking. It seems like I always find ink marks I never saw before I dunked.

ooooh, aaaah, so pretty and RED!

Lenox is all done! She didn't need much work...just some reshaping, so a quick dunk with a dash of Woolite. This is a roomy bag! The only real challenge was the flap - unlike other vintage flap bags, this one is leather on both sides so getting the two layers to dry without any warps was a bit of a challenge, but I think it turned out okay. No scuffs or scratches anywhere - I think this bag was rarely used. Just a couple of coats of Leather CPR and a coat of Cadillac to bring out the shine. Even the edging is in great shape - one coat of Edge Kote and voila...complete!

These are all after pics as there's not much contrast - just not as flat and she's now more shiny. :)

Thank you for your suggestions. I really appreciate your experience and willingness to share here on the rehab thread. I think I am going to see if Coach will help with the torn leather repair. Nothing ventured, nothing gained.

I will also try washing and working my way through the suggestions you have given. My approach will be "one step at a time." I'm sure that I will pick up some skills and experience working on the briefcase. I will post photos and ask questions if I get stuck or am unsure.

I think I would wash it first to see if any of that stain will come out. It is worth a shot to send it to Coach to repair the torn piece, although it will probably be considered normal wear and tear. At least they would have the proper leather for the repair. The edges you would probably have to fix yourself with edgekote or acrylic paint. Leather refinisher could be used to hide the stain if it doesn't wash out.

What a strange thing to have the stain shown up after you washed her. I can't offer any advice since I'm such a newbie. However, I can see why you were attracted to her. She is a lovely color and a great style. Good luck with resolving the weird stain. She already looks so much better with everything you've done.

Beautiful! She looks amazing now. I can't imagine how she can look better in person...but I believe you. You have brought a beauty back to life. Thank you for sharing.

So glad you posted these after photos. Your love of suede and experimentation in cleaning suede helped me to get started on my dirtiest nubuc Coah.

This bag looks wonderful. Such a neat/funky look. Glad you could clean her and make her look fabulous.
