Here are my three top handle satchels. The red one is called either a compact slim satchel or handle clutch #9425. I don't know the names or numbers for the others. The large BT one is 17 by 11, the burgundy one is 13 by 9 3/4 and the red one is 13 by 7 1/2.

Cute! Love the red especially!.

I have been lurking on this particular thread for the past week, having just found this forum. I have always loved Coach bags and purchased my first one in the early to mid-80's. Sadly, I no longer have it. However, I do have several I've picked up at vintage flea markets, inherited, and one that I purchased at the Factory Outlet. All leather, which I love.

I so appreciate all the wonderful work that you do with the rescue bags. It's really rather amazing! I'm looking forward to rehabing some older bags that I had on hand, after, of course, I request authentication from the experts. I'm only about 1/3 of the way through this thread...somewhere in early May. It's taking a long time to read all the rehab wisdom that is shared here.

However, I have a question I was hoping someone might be able to answer for me. My search hasn't yielded an answer to my question, although I may not have entered the correct search terms.

Any way...what can I do to make a handstamped creed show up in a photo? I can see and read these creeds with my loop. However, I've tried a few things and can't get a good photo to post to authenticate? I think I may have a Layfaette Tote Bag? and an Ergo Hobo Shoulder Bag? I can clearly photograph all the other creeds.

Thank you in advance for any assistance you might be able to offer...you, who are masters of the vintage Coach restoration effot!

This is difficult sometimes. The easiest ones are the ones where the creed is on a pocket that you can pull out of the bag. For the others, I usually put the camera inside the bag and use flash. I have one that I have been unable to get a clear picture. Luckily, I know that one is authentic.

If it is a question of contrast, sometimes brushing powder over it will make it easier to read.

Thank you, Whateve. I appreciate your feedback.

These both have the creed on a pocket that I can pull out of the bag. I tried using BE mineral veil, because that was the lightest powder I own. No success yet. Maybe I will have some other ideas. Perhaps I should purchase some *very* inexpensive white talc to get better contrast. I'm getting a sheen when I take a photo whether or not I use the flash.

I'm fairly sure these are authentic, but would love to know for sure.

This is really good to know - I didn't even think about leather-specific soap when I did my two rehabs thus far. I used Nordstrom delicate wash, a Woolite-like product but supposedly even milder.

Now my question: do any of you have experience with Leather CPR or Blackrock's on purses from Marc Jacobs or J.W. Hulme? The Marc Jacobs forum doesn't have as specific a Rehab thread, and there is no J.W. Hulme forum that I can see.

I've not worked with either bag, but have used LCPR on several other brands. It depends on the leather/texture and finish. A more soft pebbled leather ( or vachetta) I use a more opaque conditioner like Apple or Lexol...(more "thin" so it works into the surface without leaving white dried conditioner "residue".) The shinier finished bags like what you see on old coach bags will be fine with LCPR. Blackrocks I save for the most intensely dry and scuffed looking bags because it is heavy duty, and contains a bit of wax to protect/preserve the leather. KateV is probably more of an expert on things than I. And Docride in the Hermes Forum has incredibly valuable advice on leather.

Did you try cornstarch or flour?

I felt that way in the beginning, but after spending a lot of effort on trying to rehab bags with disappointing results, I am trying to be more selective and walk away from some of the worst bags but I don't always manage. I should have left that $2.50 black Janince's Legacy behind because I am going to have to dye her. I've just got too many bags (including lots of sad cases!) waiting for attention in my rehab pile now!

I have a tub in my garage this is labeled "Lost Cause?", no joke:p

A late reply...I think it's the limonene that is the same as CitriSolv lab solvent. Here is a link to the MSDS (material safety data sheet, what chemists use to describe substances): https://fscimage.fishersci.com/msds/91547.htm

Given all the industrial solvents out there that we are exposed to, I agree with you that a focused use of this chemical could be OK, with adequate ventilation and awareness. You might also consider using a mask from the hardware store. Honestly, the smell that's present in some plastic packaging is probably worse, and I don't actually know if this substance is the same as the one I had prior experience with. Good luck!

Thanks for getting back to me. I used it on a purse that is an experiment purse. When I used it diluted and scrubbed with a toothbrush, it didn't harm the leather. When I applied it full strength and left it to sit for a bit, I had color loss in that area.

So I got an olive green Small Legacy Zip in a lot a coupla weeks back.... My friend/neighbor is in love with it and asked me how much... I told her $50 'cos it fixed up really nice (was in pretty good conduction to start) and I've never seen an olive green one... But she kinda thought $50 was a lot, I could tell.
But she feeds my kitties for me when I go outta town (which is a lot), so I decided tomorrow or the day after, I'm gonna do the final conditioning and give it to her. I'll take pics!

these are looking beautiful!! I am jealous. I love to look at these bags, but haven't much occasion to carry this type of bag! I love seeing others do great things with them because of that though!! They are so well made!

That's really a nice thing to do!! I have too many bags to keep, and these vintage babies are perfect gifts for special people like that. I am about to give my best friend a cute Janice Legacy in black. She can't afford Coach and as we all know, the rehab junkies have now made Coach affordable again LOL. I wonder how much Coach LOVES us re-directing their business haha.

I just found a Lafayette Tote ( posted her in the second hand bargain thread) !! I have had several bags that were a nightmare to get the photo to work on. I have a higher end digital point and shoot and have had to do TONS of experimentation in different lighting to sometimes get it right, and using a pale eye shadow color, etc... I hope you get it fig'd out. I'd love to see photos of your bags here even if you can't get the creed!
