All of you have inspired me. I went up to my storage room and retrieved a mahogany Barclay that I bought in 1991 or 1992 when I first started teaching. That bag had to have carried tens of thousands of student papers, quizzes, and tests. It is ripped at all four corners. I took it to a cobbler today and told him I had gotten it the first year I started teaching and since I am going to retire this year, I would like to carry it again. I held my breath as he looked it over. He told me he could fix it and I can pick it up on the 15th. It is scratched and filthy. So my first rehab will be my teacher bag. I only got one picture of the tears. I will let you know how it goes.

What a great way to celebrate your retirement and start a new chapter of your life, with a memento of your early career! We look forward to seeing your rehab results!

I have been playing around with a product called CitraSolv. It is STRONG stuff. I was able to get some ink off the nubuc purse I have been working on with it. It does seem to alter the leather slightly and should be used cautiously, much like rubbing alcohol. You might have to repaint the area, but you could use the matching lighter colors possibly.
Here is a link to it: http://citrasolv.com/
I was able to buy it in my grocery store, in with the natural cleaning products.
HTH

CitraSolv is hardcore. I used it to clean the nasty floors in a rental one time. The landlady started to remind me that i wasn't allowed to change things without approval. Um, I mopped?

So I requested a black hang tag for my 1998 Station Bag from Coach. I received it today and they must be out of black tags from that time period as they sent me a brass metal tag, which is cool...just surprising given I figured black was basic enough. I think I'll use it on my Lula's Legacy for a pop of bling and switch the leather tag from Lula to my Station Bag.

Woosh. I want a BT City but don't think I'm bold enough to tackle that baby!

I'd give 'em a buck for that but I wouldn't pay $8.99 shipping. I bet it would come out halfway decent, if the leather wasn't too dried out to be saved. Looks like it's borderline around some of the piping and could go either way.

I would walk away from that one no matter the price. I don't want to work that hard for what is likely to turn out as unsatisfactory results. Been there, done that!

I need some rehab advice. I am working on a Legacy Straw Tote that I got at the Savers for $22.50. The style number is 113 and the bag was made in China in 2005.

The bag was very misshapen and it was dirty and dingy, the AT pics are at the link below and it looks a lot cleaner in the pics than it actually was IRL.

It washed up beautifully and I was able to restore the shape, but I am having problems repairing damage to the gold metallic leather. There were spots of some kind of nasty, dried orange crud on the bag. Including a bad spot on the front flap pocket and another one on the strap.

I think someone used the bag at a picnic and splashed ketsup on it and didn't clean it off. I was able to get it off but now I am trying to deal with the damage left behind.

Here are some pics. The big spot on the front flap produced an orange stain on the thin strip of ivory leather trim next to the metallic leather and I was able to touch that up with acrylic paints, but I have not been successful camouflaging the damage to the adjacent metallic leather.

I have tried several different shades of metallic paints, and I have tried mixing them with each other and with leather cpr. The problem is that if the shade of gold is dark enough to cover the spot then it is too dark to match the rest of the bag. And I do not want to attempt repainting all the gold leather on the bag!

Anyone have any suggestions? Has anyone ever tried to apply gold-leaf to anything? What is that gold stuff that they use to apply monograms to leather? How about gold ink? I am usually against using ink or shoepolish but I am getting desperate!

Should I try taking it to a cobbler? I had no luck with the cobbler, the boutique, or Coach JAX when I tried to get the metallic leather on my copper zoe repaired so I think that I will probably have to find my own solution. The bag is really stunning and I am very open to all ideas! Help! And thanks!

I have never tried this, NOR do I have ANY clue how it may or may-not work but my very first thought was metallic nail polish, then maybe a coat of protectant...??? I dont have ANY clue how it would hold over time, and its probably a HORRIBLE idea...SAFEST bet is probably gold-leaf, but I dont know how close a color match your would get...
hmmmm That metallic is TRICKY

Gold nail polish, I didn't think of that! Hey, I am wide open to new ideas, thanks!

I'm not sure anything we do here is recommended by Coach, but that is one bag I wouldn't throw in the washing machine!

Good luck and let us know how it comes out!

That is a gorgeous bag and I would be scared to take chances with it. If you could show a close-up of the discoloration we might try to advise you about cleaning of touching up but right now I would just try to prevent further damage. You could also take it to a professional leather worker and ask for an opinion - you don't have to take the opinion, just find out what he suggests. If you ask the staff at your local coach boutique they can probably give you the name of a cobbler or other leather craftsman that they recommend for bag repairs.

Beautiful bag!
Ok ladies, my eraser finally came in the mail, that, and a new fob got lost and took a bit more time to get here. Thanks to the usps detective, they found it. Unfortunately didn't do much here us a close up picture of the rim. As a whole the bag looks almost new. I showed it to my sister in she didn't even see it until pointed it out. The eraser did make that much of a difference. Underside of the handles are more even but didn't really take away any of the black. I am going find a pro and get an opinion. I have a feeling they will prob advise apple guard. I'll do anything to be able to ware her. I am planning to spend Thanksgiving in Tennessee I want to be able to ware her with out worry. Thanks! Keep posted and post after pics If I find a resolution.
