To further stop damage I'd use something like this:
http://leatherstuff.com/shop/view.php?id=284 Apple Garde spray. I've used it on vachetta and all kinds of leather.

To clean it before spraying, --that is a tough one! I think as gorgeous and detailed as this bag is, it would be a process of small gentle experiments. Have you tried to do ANYTHING to her yet? Even a suede "eraser" etc? My few suede bags needing cleaning are so basic/boring that I am planning on just popping them in the washing machine or dunking them, but your bag would not be one I'd want to consider doing this with.

I haven't tried anything yet I'm scared get her out of the closet. I guess where Coach didn't recommend using any suede products that kinda made me scared to try anything. I think I may keep her and try the eraser at least. I was going to sell her and get new legacy items but i would rather have this one if I could ware her without worry. Have you used cleaning products when the care card says not recommended? I have ordered the eraser and brush. And took down my listing. I hope she will become my fav bag. I will post before and Afters if successful. I guess this is my first Rehab. :)

Quick Tuesday Morning update - went for the first time today and Wow!! It is a cozy size and not too
Overwhelming. They had both Leather and Granite CPR tubes at 5.99 for 12 oz.

I asked the SA about their stock and she said it is overstock, end of season items, store closing items and also bought from other countries with special handicrafts. They has beautiful German Christmas ornaments and Nutcrackers if you want to plan ahead!!

I'm not sure anything we do here is recommended by Coach, but that is one bag I wouldn't throw in the washing machine!

Good luck and let us know how it comes out!

I think you can see it. The problem is the rim in this picture. The same black stuff is in mostly on the handles almost all the way around the rim. I'm wondering if there's no way to fix it or to clean it is there a way to protect from further damage. I can't find and suede protection.

That is a gorgeous bag and I would be scared to take chances with it. If you could show a close-up of the discoloration we might try to advise you about cleaning of touching up but right now I would just try to prevent further damage. You could also take it to a professional leather worker and ask for an opinion - you don't have to take the opinion, just find out what he suggests. If you ask the staff at your local coach boutique they can probably give you the name of a cobbler or other leather craftsman that they recommend for bag repairs.

Beautiful bag!

Tuesday Morning is a neat store, you can find some interesting things there at good prices. In addition to Leather CPR I buy Goddard's alcohol-free jewelry wipes at TM and I use them to clean the hardware on my bags before storage.

I swear by bar keepers friend http://www.barkeepersfriend.com * can find it at any hardware store and even at grocery stores

everyone knows how I love my dremel/power tools...but...sadly, the dremel sometimes -on some brass (not all)- makes the brass worse, not better. No idea why. So, go ahead and try Bar keepers friend or honestly ANY brass polish by hand only, first, ( I go through LOTS of Qtips) before ordering a new turn lock. Granted, a new brass one will look gorgeous, but won't stay that way for long with use. So, it's a matter of personal taste and patience I"d say. Good luck

Little update, just hand polishing did the trick :D Thank you both for the advice. I used the simichrome polish I had on hand. Yeah for shiny, clean hardware!

Does it just need spot-cleaning or does it need major cleaning? Can you post pictures?

I have used Coach's Jacquard Fabric Cleaner (available at the boutique stores) to successfully spot-clean sateen bags.

Here is a pic. It's just spots.

I'd probably use the Coach Jacquard Fabric Cleaner - but I have a bottle available on hand.

You could try gently sponging the area with water and a soft cloth. If that doesn't work you could use a mild soap and water and try to spot clean.

Good luck, let us know how it works out!

I had someone tell me this a while back, use a mild laundry detergent, very small amount, water and very soft toothbrush. Rub it in gently and wipe off repeat if needed. I kept my sateen Maggie, and mini skinny looking new. I used the mini skinny daily for about a year. It got dirty sometimes but it came clean everytime

The hot pink bag may need touch-up, but first I would try cleaning and conditioning to see how it looks. The cream bag looks good in the pics but if it has scuffs, dirty marks, and flaws, I would give it a bath and see how it looks after it dries. Light-colored bags are very hard to rehab and sometimes they need to be touch-up, painted, or dyed.

Let us know what you plan to do and if you have questions and the rehabbers on this thread will try to advise you. Nice bags, good luck!

The cream bag has areas where there are knicks in the leather...so when you say bath, is that cleaning with the Coach cleaner and moisturizer or is that in water?

Thanks!

Forum should have a 'like' button...I really like this idea!

I've become a big fan of easy, convenient wipes for quickly maintaining my bags and getting them ready for storage. I started doing this after I took my mahagony XL ergo pleated hobo out for the fall season.

The bag looked fine when I stuffed it and put it in the dustbag the previous spring, but the next time I saw it, there were dirty marks, finger prints and other flaws visible. I was able to clean her up and make her look pretty again but it made me aware of the importance of cleaning, conditioning, and shining before storage.

The trouble is, I'm not always willing to drag out the cleaning, conditioning, and polishing supplies when I am switching bags. Now for most bags I use Lexol cleaning wipes, Lexol conditioning wipes, and Goddard's jewelry wipes to clean, condition, and shine. After treatment, I let the bag dry overnight and then stuff and bag it for storage.

I keep the stuffing in the dustbag for the bag I am currently carrying so I don't have to hunt around for packing materials.

I usually just wipe patent bags with a soft cloth and water and use the Goddard's wipes on the hardware.

Good luck!

I meant dunking it in the sink with Ivory or Dawn and water and giving it a bath and then rinsing, draining, and stuffing with towels to shape it while drying and later conditioning. Below is a link with pics of a very similar bag to your bag that I rehabed that way. But it was dark brown and it is easier to rehab a dark-colored bag because the flaws don't show as much.

Also below are links for rehabbing a bag in the manner I've just described. Your bag is lining so I would pay special attention to any spots on the lining while giving it a bath. And after taking the towels out in 24 hours I would pull the lining out of the bag as much as possible to let it dry. Good luck!
