Ok, you guys.....that bag that I mentioned earlier...the camel colored vintage saddle with the stain from the spray and wash.....I swear I feel like a dunce working with it. It has been washed 3 times now and almost done drying. I put a generous apple application on it and got called away and forgot about it. I found it this morning with dark streaks in it. I can't really even buff it out because it soaked it all in. When I did try to buff the bag, I noticed some color coming off. My hypothesis is that it will eventually even out, but this light color seems unpredictable so I am kind of thrown for a loop.

What say you? Heavy Apple application left over night??? What happens? And color coming off? What gives?

I will try and post photos but I am on a phone currently.

Let it dry for a few days, the apple may absorb into the leather and the streaks will disappear. Don't you just hate it when everything goes wrong with a rehab!?

...On to other items: Dust covers. ? Any good place to find them with the Coach symbol on it? If I'm going to give these as gifts, I want to do it right. :smile1: I tried searching "Coach dustcovers" on ebay, but it didn't turn up much aside from purses being sold WITH dust covers...?

You can buy Coach dustbags online, Bonanza seems to offer the best selection but they can get a bit pricey. Sometimes they are asking more for the dustbags than the amount I paid for the vintage bag!

I know what you mean about wanting to make sure that the gift of a rehabbed bag is a "true Coach experience, including dustbag." So far I have evicted 3 of my personal Coach bags from their dustbags to use for gifts - and I've moved my bags into pillow cases!

That's getting a little old so I am thinking about getting some cute, generic dustbags from the vendor at the link below. Other TPFers have bought her products and have been happy with their purchases.

And I know that at least one of our rehabbers (MomtoK? or Yokelmel?) sew up their own dustbags - but I am not much of a hand at sewing.

There are a few other things that I do to make sure that the gift a "coach experience." I put some information about the bag into the inside zip or slip pocket, including a Coach Care Card appropriate for the specific bag, and information about the bag (name, style number, original date of manufacture.)

I also try and stuff/wrap with carefully hoarded Coach tissue paper and put it inside of a Coach shopping bag (also carefully hoarded!)

Good luck with your rehabs!

I have used Esty on occasion and have been pleased with the results. There is a gal on there who does custom flannel covers in your choices of color.( naturally, I would choose dark brown). I have also purchased brown cases from Target and gone to the boutique for a couple as well.
When you find a bag on EBay or Bonanza, how much weight do you place on the bag having its dust bag?
Just curious.

When I buy a used bag on ebay, it's a nice perk if it has the dustbag but it is not a deal-breaker for me. But if I am "on the fence" deciding whether or not I should bid on the bag, then including the dustbag may convince me to go for it!

When I buy a FP delete at the outlet I expect to come with the dustbag and I get really annoyed when it does not!

I need your help. How do I rehab this Gracie or is it possible? There is color loss on the front flap above the turn lock closure. It looks dark in the picture because I tried to wipe it with a wet cloth. The edges are dirty and color loss.

Here are a couple of in-progress shots of the Anderson. Looks darker than it is because it's just out of the bath and quite damp, but it will be a lighter caramel when dry!

Nice bag! The leather is looking great! Great start on a great bag.

LOL I hear you on this one! I just bought a tan basic bag and there are the biggest ink blot marks on the lining. Ink is a b*t*h to get out, impossible pretty much. I tried hairspray on a q-tip but alls it did was rub it around and make the spot bigger. I just decided to live with it (its on the inside anyway). And I love your recent purchases, very cute and classic tote styles!

I have fought the ink spots myself...I wrote a huge thread (should have been a blog) about my attempts to removedark ink spots on a Willis bag. I used everything imagineable. If they are not noticable on the outside, I'd live with them. If you're not careful, too much ink solvent will make the ink spot bleed through to other side.

Now THAT is a great idea. (the card etc.) Hmmmm...I think I'd have a really tough time hoarding the tissue paper/bags just because a.) I move A LOT and b.) I have one of those husbands who is the type to put my hard-anodized Calphalon into the dishwasher...FORGET about tissue paper!

Ooo, Etsy. Didn't think of them. I'm with katev...It's not a deal breaker, but if I'm buying with the idea of gift giving, it will tip me in it's favor.

OK, so I tried working on the ink stain on the camel-colored backpack...

Not toooooo bad, but it IS lightening the area around it. I haven't washed or conditioned the bag itself yet, so I'm hoping that will help even out the color. But I have to say...I'm going to MURDER the next twerp I catch with a designer handbag just tossing uncapped pens around!!

This is what the SUEDE interior of my Kate Spade boarskin looks like (this is one end, but they look agonizingly similar.)

Which leads me to my next question. How does one successfully clean suede? Not just this item, but I found a pink Coach fabric handbag with dirty suede bottom/edges at a price I couldn't dismiss. I figured if nothing else, it will be a learning experiment...?

The Dinky Bag and the Casino Bag were for my mom, I have them to her yesterday and she was very pleased! The "After" pic of the Satchel includes a mini-skinny that I bought for my mom to use with her bags, but she already had one, so I guess I'll just have to keep it for myself :) The Nicholas Drawstring *still* looks and feels a bit dry (I put probably 10 coats of Apple on it already!), so I think I'll keep conditioning it for a while until it becomes as supple as I would like, but I will use it in the meantime, it looks really cute with the little crocheted fruit fob that came on one of my other Saks bags.

I've had a lot of fun with these bags, Thanks for looking!
Hey! The before and afters look great. I am about to do my first project on a black Dinky. Did you end up using acrylic paint at all, or did the leather just darken back up with conditioner application?

Hi there, good luck on your first project! I used Pecards Leather dressing, which is quite heavy and good for the older, drier bags. I find that it does tend to darken the lighter colors just a bit, and is good for evening out the color in bags that may have some worn spots. I did not use any paint or anything other than the conditioner on these bags, and they came out great! Looking forward to seeing pics of yours :smile1:

Just received my latest rehab in the mail -- a $25 navy blue NYC convertible clutch. Came with a bobby pin and a paper clip, lol. Inside was filthtastic so I just gave it a bubble bath. In fact when I opened the box I was convinced I had a black bag and it was mislisted, but decided to just bathe it and let it dry then hold it up to my black city bag and hope for a difference. Don't need another black bag!

I hope your bag is really blue!! So often very dry, faded black bags truly LOOK navy blue and people often innocently misrepresent them that way when they list them online!! Can't wait to see her after she's all cleaned up!

Well, have a look at the link: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=120753281928&ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT

He used a flash in the pics which does make the bag look navy, right?

Sometimes it's just SOOOOO hard to tell. I have a Nicholas drawstring that I would have bet money was black, until I put it next to one of my other black bags, and it looks like a very, very dark navy (like a midnight color). I put it next to my vintage Tribeca shopper tote, and it looks black again. I finally resorted to looking at the little bit of fabric that the inside pocket zipper is sewn in on...and the verdict is....very very dark navy :smile1:
