I found a bottle of Lexol leather conditioner today at the local cobbler shop. Do I use a soft cotton cloth to apply it? I've used my fingers with Apple care but this is different.

Also can I use Lexol on my Italian caviar bags?

I also dunked another bag in a soapy sinkful of water just now: a British Tan Anderson bag. It's not filthy but I figured still needed a bath and some coats of conditioner before I wear it. Love the color of the leather on this one, and nice to have a vintage Coach with a zipper instead of flap opening.

Here are a couple of in-progress shots of the Anderson. Looks darker than it is because it's just out of the bath and quite damp, but it will be a lighter caramel when dry!

I use the Lexol wipes so the application isn't an issue for me. Those small round sponges that they sell for cosmetics might be a good as an applicator.

Lexol doesn't seem as thick and opaque as other conditioners so it might be okay for caviar leather - but I would spot test an area first and let it dry overnight.

The Anderson looks great!

I Love your anderson bag! Where did you find it? I would totally rock this bag!!!

Thanks! I found it on ebay of course, lol. Made an offer for $44 (yeah a bit high) which was accepted, yay. I think if you just do some searches you'll eventually find a good one.

Welcome! Unfortunately, there is really nothing that you can do to remove ink off of leather without taking off the rest of the color from the bag. Alcohol helps a bit, but it takes color with it. It you want to be extreme and can get a good color match, I would use acrylic paint. Stipple it on as to keep the texture of the leather.

Good luck to you!

Thanks. Here's the bag; it does have a hang tag, you just can't see it in the photo...and for the record, I read through all 29 pages of this thread! Although I lived in Korea, and knowingly purchased a Coach knock-off Willis briefcase (as was recently showcased a few posts back), it never dawned on me this might be a fake. !? I took a shot of the "creed" too, although I'm not sure what else (besides misspellings) I should be looking for in it...

As I mentioned before, it's camel colored leather (cowhide, according to the creed) with a navy satin stripe lining. I pulled the lining out and washed it with Woolite by hand/soft toothbrush/fingernail brush. (I've had good success with that method on the Kate Spade leather clutch lining with MUCHO ink stains, BTW.) I hung the bag up upside-down until the lining was dry enough to push back into the bag. Here are the ink stains and some other blemish I can't identify. I haven't yet attempted to do anything about those.

Edit: I forgot to include the odd light-colored patches on the top flap.

And unless any of you fine ladies know the name of this model off the tops of your heads, I'll have to go seek out an authenticator for assistance.

Lastly, I have to ask...you guys have done some amazing rehabs. But the practical side of me has to wonder: what do you DO with all of the rehabbed projects, especially duplicates??? While I LOVE bags (holy crap, I'm really realizing how much nuttier I am than I thought I was), I can't see myself rehabbing and keeping every single one. And I KNOW my husband would think I'd gone over the edge (I'm also a part-time antique dealer, a MINI Cooper enthusiast, ...the list goes on...) so....? Do you guys KEEP all of these?

And thanks! I really appreciate all of the good advice and suggestions you've collected in this thread. :smile1:

Cute backpack! I think it is genuine but you should have it authenticated to be sure. What do I do with the bags? Good question! I carry them sometimes but mostly they are just piling up. I've recently started giving some of them away - so far I have given away 4 bags but I keep buying more. I have to think up a solution!

:amuse: Thanks. I just posted a request for authentication. I also asked you that question * JUST IN CASE * my purse/bag addiction gets out of hand... :D

Very cute backpack!!! It looks like it is in good condition, and will look even better when you are done!

To answer your question about finished projects, thus far I have kept (and do carry) my rehabbed bags. However, I am running out of space, and if I want to keep my hobby up, I'm going to have to start weeding out some of the ones I don't use as much (for instance, I have 7 black bags!). I may end up gifting a few to family members who appreciate them like I do :smile1:

Why don't you sell some ? I would love to buy one of your rehab projects and I am sure others would too :flowers:

Thanks! I've thought about selling some, but although I have purchased items on ebay and bonz I have never sold anything. It seems like a lot of work and hassle and I'm a bit scared by the horror stories you read about problem customers. I may take the plunge eventually. Perhaps when I runb completely out of space to store for my rehab projects!

When I started I had no idea that there would be so many "worthy" bags out there just waiting to be saved! :graucho:
