Ok, so I washed this bag again in the sink and let it soak for quite a while. It has been less than 24 hours and I am beginning to see another stain emerging in a different place in the same general area. The original spot faded a bit but can still be seen. Now I don't know what the heck is going on. Perhaps I am dealing with water spot issues or something. Strange. Wondering if it needs another rinse or if I should just leave it alone.

Could you take some pics of the stains so that we can see them, that might help us give you some ideas.

I left a Coach Patchwork Demi 10000 from 2006 at the thrift store today, even though it was only $13.

The bag absolutely filthy inside and out. It had severe ink marks on the interior, the hangtag was missing, and some of the more delicate patches were very dirty and worn.

But I could see that it had once been a gorgeous little bag and the leather trim and hardware were still very beautiful.

The reason I left it behind was because the signature patches with metallic gold thread stitched in a "C" pattern were very frayed, and in some areas the gold thread was completely missing. I couldn't think of any way to replace/repair the metallic gold stitching. Does anyone have any ideas about that?

Below is a pic of the bag, but this one is in mint condition! Why do some people treat their beautiful and expensive possessions so poorly?!

Now that's just too sad, the careless way someone treated her. I agree with you though. Unless I could live with the threads as is, and could make it look nice enough to carry otherwise, I'd have to just say to myself "move along, Jess." It sure is hard to walk away though at that price. I hope somebody else may have some sewing skills and could pipe in on this one because I'm curious too.

Guess what?! I just scored an ivory Regis for $50 on ebay! She was BIN for $99 OBO, but after listing twice she accepted my best offer. From the pictures the seller sent me it looks be in near mint condition. She said it shows minor signs of wear but could not explain what that meant. She said there are no marks or rips. I won't be getting her until next week because I'm going to Chicago this week, but if she needs any work I will be asking here!
Congrats...Please post pictures. I want to see it :D

I know what you mean. I found a little pocket zip style bag (maybe the basic bag) in white leather at a vintage store and it was at an "AsIs" price of $16. I couldn't find anything wrong with it except for that it was dirty. I was too scared that the white wouldn't clean up nicely so I left it behind. Sad day, I didn't find any vintage lovelies yesterday : (

Well, ladies...I am currently working on my "white" bag I spoke of earlier. She is not white...more like vanilla. I have gotten her clean, and was actually able to remove a dark mark (IDK if it was a little mildew or an ink mark).
The only problem I have now is Coach being infamous about only dyeing the leather on top...not all the way through. So I have a few worn spots...that are not "vanilla". The conditioner seems to really be helping those. They are much lighter than before.
Still, this bag is not going to be perfect, nor look like new...but she is looking more "gently used" instead of "abused" with every coat of Apple. :hugs:
I love her and will wear her proudly, no matter what. She was definitely worth the price and hassle. I have had a lot of fun.

Will post some b4/after pics tomorrow if I get time. :)

I can't wait to see her! I passed up a white vintage basic zip bag yesterday because I was afraid of rehabbing a white bag, but maybe I should have just went for it. It was only $16 but oh well. Maybe I'll stick to the dark leathers!

I have learned to avoid suede bags new and old. I can never get the suede clean after use. I sold a nice patchwork Carly b/c the light pink suede was hard to keep clean (I used the kit that came with the bag). I have bought bags to rehab that were suede or had suede details only to be disappointed over and over at the results. I always start out with the brush, then the magic eraser, then a damp cloth-let it dry and brush. Usuallly, each step fails with the like new appearance and I move to detergent then eventually the piece gets a bath. The colors bleed and I end up frustrated. Any suggestions on how to restore dirty suede?

What can you suggest for a black leather coach that the leather just seems dry as a bone? When i bathed it so much color came off I think the previous owner used some kind of black shoe polish on it. Now after the bath and several attempts at moisturizing, it still seems awfully dry. Help! What products would you use to moisturize and bring a little shine to it??

Here are the pics of the Gardenia Leigh I rehabbed (as best as I could, anyway).

Here is before....

And here is after:

I used Apple cleaner and moisturizer (and lots of it!). I also used a bit of acetone to remove the mildewy spot on the bottom (circled in first pic). She was pretty dirty and worn looking, but she lightened up a lot due to the Apple...she was very very dry. Some of the wear is still there, but it is not as prevalent as it once was.

Thanks for letting me share.
I am pretty happy with the results. :D

She looks much better now!!!! Congrats on your rehab, I have yet to attempt to try such a light bag, I have always been scared (except for my pocket satchel, which I just tossed in the washing machine and was ready to write off if it didn't work!). Nice job :smile1:

which specific moisturizer did you use? some do seem to perk dry leather up quickly and more intensely, and some are just good at maintenance care or touch up. I have some bags I"ve moisturized as much as 7 or 8 times after a bath. Leather CPR is a more intense one for me. Katev will have a good answer I'd bet too

Leather CPR and Apple are my two favorites. If you can't get to either of those, then Lexol is a good second.

About suede: very very hard to clean. I have been known to throw them in the hand washing cycle. The color does bleed, but there is a product out now to help with the bleeding. It is a washer sheet that captures the color.

About white bag rehab: has anyone tried to use bleach when they are cleaning these white bags? I know it is not good for colored bags, but if the bag is white, could it help restore in those cases?

I would suggest Leather CPR or Leather Therapy oil; here is my list and opinions on various rehabbing products
