So I just bought a new Large Legacy Duffle & they suggested I buy the Coach Moisturizer for it. When I got it home I read it & it says that it has silicones. It also says for glove tanned leather but the creed on this doesn't say that it is glove tanned.

I also bought, at the SA recommendation the Coach Cleaner for the white leather back of my embossed python Kristin Hobo. It also has silicone in it.

If silicone is not good for leather why do they sell it? Is it OK to use it? Should I return it? I don't want to upset my SA. I might not get any PCE's. I'm also gonna go back & exchange the new duffle cos it has indentations in the leather.

I am not sure why coach doesn't try some other formulation. I think in minimal -very occasional doses -people have used the Coach stuff and probably have been ok because it just causes a build up over time. But the other types of conditioners are just gentler and can be used very regularly without a build up. If the Coach type was the ONLY kind I had available to me, it's probably better than using nothing at all. But there are other cheaper better formulations out there. Now that you've bought some, you can just say you already have some and no feelings will be hurt. Congrats on the Duffle. I'd love to get one of those!! I'll probably end up buying a vintage one when I see one I like.

I'm not even sure I would have tried that old wallet!

It's like torture, she's in the washing machine now. I'm not sure why I even put this dirty old thing in my watch list. I like suede, and sherpa, but I'm not an ugg person and other than the sherpa "almost uggs' that I use as slippers (they're actually considered mules, but I don't really wear them anywhere, though I've used them to get to yoga class) It could have been the rehab challenge, maybe it was the low price-whatever. I had decided not to bid on it, but I didn't delete it from the list, probably because I was curious if anyone would buy this bag.

Anyway, my iPhone sent a notification and I was watching a movie on Netflix, and for some reason "LARGE" in the description caught my eye. I had thought it was a smallish bag. But even so...why did I bid on this thing? (she's 16 X 9 X 3, with a 22" drop, according to the description, though I haven't measured her). Large or small, I really didn't need her.

I wasn't going to post before pix when I brought it up, but just to kill some time while I wait for the final rinse:

Oh dear! She is sad, hopefully you can give her a second life, good luck!

Oh wow, we need to stop buying these beat-up old bags! I still haven't tackled this burgandy spectator checkbook wallet, but this one just might be too far gone!

I'm going to butt in here for a second because I can not help myself...
I found a red wallet from the Madison line early 90's made in Italy today and I was SO nervous about rehabbing it I JUST put it on eBay as is :(
I had no idea where to begin!! I wish I could stop buying old bags just to see how pretty they can be but I CAN'T hehehe

Doesn't get any better up close:

Probably some sort of ink or color transfer here:

Strap has some water damage I'm not too worried about:

Some other dirty liquid:

This is to kinda show before and after. The lighter colored part was covered: by the strap:

This is where the fuzzy sherpa covered the suede:

Oh, and did I mention when I opened the box I was assailed by cheap perfume!

Good grief! Show that bag no mercy and get her as clean as possible!

That's okay! A lot of coachies like to buy bags in their "natural state" so that they can have the fun of rehabbing them!

But feel free to post pics here any time you are faced with a difficult rehab and your fellow rehabbers will try to advise you as much as possible!

I gave my cigarette smelling Station bag a bath today, and it's still wet, but I smell no trace of cigarettes. I scrubbed it with baking soda and dumped some Downy Unstoppable in-wash scent booster, and that's all I smell right now. I'll give an update once it has dried. The thing I am a bit worried about is the colour of the water when I soaked it. I know that the water changes colour, but about 10 minutes in, the water was pitch black. I didn't know if it was something I did wrong, but I changed the water, and 10 minutes later, it was pitch black again. I just let it sit in the water though, but I'm wondering if that's normal at all? Would the colour be coming off after it has dried or when I condition it?

It's like I'm on a mission! I actually sprayed shout on her and did NOT put her in a pillow case as usual because I figure bouncing around the washer won't scratch her since she's suede, and the abrasion against the towels in there might help clean her.

Almost done, and I imagine she'll dry pretty fast. It kind of looks like the same details as your wristlet, huh? I went looking after I got her in the washer.

Yes, it does look similar. I am interested to see how your bag comes out!

I'd bet you dollars to donuts that someone dyed or polished her. Not to worry though, the dunking will help out. Make sure you check for color transfer after she's fully dry and conditioned by rubbing with a white cloth.

Thanks so much for the tip, I'll be sure to do that! If there is colour transfer, is there anything I could do about it?

I would try to keep dunking and rinsing till there is minimal color bleeding if I feel like it's been dyed. But if it wasn't obviously dyed before you dunked it, you might as well let it dry and then see how much comes off before you condition, and as you condition. If it's a lot, I'd probably just redunk. I always pick up a little black when I'm putting conditioner on a black bag, but I wouldn't waste the conditioner if it's a whole lot and I feel like I'm going to end up redundking anyway.

It sounds like shoe polish to me. I bought a bag that looked great when she came, I dunked her and all this brown came out. The interior felt slimy, so I kept changing water until it was clean. I used a plastic kitchen scrubbie to get the slimy feel out of the interior. It took 24 hrs for the water to run clean. Then I conditioned and waxed and she's fine.

Funny that this comes up because I recently dunked an older, 90's navy bag and it had a whitish sheen to it...almost not noticeable and very even. The bag itself was very clean but I wondered if the whitish stuff was some sort of conditioner that has been applied.

Whatever it was came off easily with a bath. I doubt the silicones REALLY hurt the bag, but they probably don't help much, just make it shiny in the short run.

Since the conditioners and cleaners are likely just some product they contract out, it's too bad they don't go with a company like Apple or Leather CPR that would probably HAPPILY put the "Coach" name on their product in order to get that revenue rolling in.

Can you tell I'm a business major?
