Yesterday I requested authentication for two Abbie's:
an orange one: http://forum.purseblog.com/coach-shopping/authenticate-this-coach-694619-830.html#post22346452
and a brown one: http://forum.purseblog.com/coach-shopping/authenticate-this-coach-694619-830.html#post22346554

I never had doubts about the orange one, but the brown one was just, well, different. Hyacinth expressed her reservations too and we've had a nice back-and-forth:

Do any of my dear rehabbers have an Abbie with a similar style number: G3W-9017?
I'm hoping to find one for comparison. I've looked at all the current ones on ebay, but they're much older, like my orange one. Thanks in advance if anyone can help!

They've both had baths and are drying outside on the lanai...more in a day or so!

I read that, I bet it's OK but I understand what you're saying. I have both a Brown and Lime Emmie and the texture of the leather is very different. I don't recall whether there is a difference in age, but I bet that's at least part of why they seem different to you.

I can pull them out and look at the creeds, as I don't recall if there is a difference in age, but I do think the brown dye they used on those bags is very different from what they used on the colored bags, like my Emmie and Abbie.

A good point about the "heavy" factor!. And I DO LOVE pockets. I just wish the lighter newer ones occasionally were made without any cloth lining since I'd love to have the option of easily dunking my bags if something should ever happen. ( I am famous for my clutziness) But if I ever find a Bleecker tattersall lined duffle I could afford, I'd just go for it anyway. :D

Hi Jessi, the lining is black cotton canvas I think, I got the black duffle so no dye transfer issues with dunking. I'm wondering though if the new leathers can be dunked. I've never dunked anything yet but I've been following you & the other rehabbers & bought a vintage (not sure if it's truly vintage) black city bag that I want to dunk etc.

The City bag-- That's a perfect starter bag to try to do a rehab on!! And yes, the black lining on a black legacy should be easier to attempt if ever necessary. Hopefully you'll just be better at keeping it like new than I am LOL

I tried so hard to post pics last night but only had my phone available and it was not cooperating...
here is the post in authenticate this

Thats INCREDIBLE!!! I wish this one was in even GOOD condition but it is pretty beat up! there was even some ink transfer in one of the CC slots and you can SEE THE WRITING! lol
It makes me happy the she was definitely LOVED though :D
Thanks. The link didn't work but I found it. That is pretty beat up. I don't think there is much you could do to restore her. Mine doesn't have the made in Italy stamp but it is a smaller piece. I also have a Gramercy wallet that is similar to yours and it doesn't have the made in Italy stamp either. I also have a Madison wallet made of leather and pigskin. I love my vintage accessories.

The Gramercy is SO close to the style of mine...I love the Made in Italy stamp, none of my Coach have it :graucho:
I thought briefly about sending it in to be repaired where the fabric has worn but im not sure it isnt past its "normal life" LOL
I think it was used everyday for a very long time hehehe

I love the texturing on my Gramercy but I love the curved shape of the Madison. That is what I love most about my Madison card cases. The Gramercy also has an unusual sort-of art deco shape to the kisslock and the brass is a lighter, less shiny color.

Your wallet definitely was loved!

I know, I wish the Madison shape had the Gramercy kisslock...
Is "loved" the right word LOL

Hello, everyone! It's been a while, but I just purchased a black Coach Manor bag via eBay (thank you to Hyacinth for giving me the blessing with the authentication!), and despite the bag being in good condition, I couldn't help myself, so I gave it a bath today! Probably the best $40 I've ever spent on a new or vintage bag, ever. I soaked and scrubbed the bag in warm water with Dawn for 40 minutes, and I applied one coat of Leather CPR a few hours ago. I'll probably wait until tomorrow or Friday to use Blackrock.

I'll post pictures as soon as possible! I still have yet to post the final result pictures of my first rehab project (unfortunately the mysterious "water" stain on the back didn't come out very well, but I can oversee it because the purse is lovely). I said I wasn't going to buy more vintage Coach purses and rehab them, but it's too much fun not to!

Can't wait to see your pictures! My first choice is usually to give the bag a bath, even if it looks good, because I like to know that it is clean and because I have often been surprised but all the crud that comes off of a clean-looking bag. And you can firm up the shape at the same time.

There are some delicate bags that I hestitate to bathe, but I have dunked some of them and even run them through the washer if necessary! And most of the time they come out looking good!

Now that you mention it, my brown geometric feels different than the other colors which were made the same year in the same plant.

I don't have any bags from the W plant or from that year.

OK, I'm not gonna lie. I got home from work, moved my current project, the suede bag, outside to let her air out...she looks great but I have a feeling the perfume smell is going to be a problem. FWIW she is a nice soft, comfortable to carry bag. Almost completely dry. Then I made dinner, did some dishes, watered the fruit trees...sat down and opened a beer. I'm not gonna be dragging out my brown Emmie tonight-but I will. I can't remember the plant code except that I think I would remember if it was a "W". I do remember that the brown leather on that bag feels different than other bags of that era.

Swiped from the Fall 2012 thread:

Just in case all y'all aren't checking it.

I loved reading this, and checking out the photos/slideshow. (But is it selfish of me to immediately start thinking of how much harder this article is going to make it for us to find vintage bags at low prices? ) Unless the gals who are used to owning a brand new bag, will now go buy the new ones and leave our old dusty beat up ones alone. Of course we are enabling the purchase of the beloved vintage bags by gushing about the addiction of refurbishing them on this thread all the time!!:D

YES! Totally selfish!
