A while back on the AT Dooney thread (I think), I recall seeing a post about restoring a bag with the same problem as yours. There was one at my Goodwill that had the color problem too, but got away from me. I'll do some looking in the morning and see if I can find it. Cute bag, by the way. I hope you have some luck with it!

katev...I looked again this morning for the post mentioned above, but no luck. I also did a search on the cheap treasures and came up empty too. Sorry - I should have marked it when I saw it...my bad!

I have absolutely no experience with rehabbing bags but this thread has been the one I go to every day since joining this forum a couple of months ago. I am simply intrigued with all the beautiful work all of you do. I would have never considered putting a leather bag in a bath...or the washing machine. LOL Who'da thought!

I was wondering if anyone has ever used a little 20 Mule Team Borax for your more stubborn/unknown stains...and even for cigarette smoke, perfume, etc? It's not harsh and I use it frequently for problem stains.

I'm anxious to hear your opinions. One of these days, I'm going to try my hand and see if I'm worthy to join your ranks of master rehabbers.
This bag is soaking in a little bit of borax and Dawn. Took out any odors, stains, etc. Just needs a real good conditioning. Should have taken a before pic (stupid me!) to show how beat up this bag really was when I received it, but it is slowly reviving.

Not sure about old Coach lotion, but their current/ new moisturizer has Silicone in it which can cause a buildup over time which might become dull. A good gentle bath will clean off the old moisturizer, plump up and reshape the bag, then I'd use a silicone free moisturizer. I agree with about everyone else here...Leather CPR and Blackrocks are my 2 faves. I do use Lexol for bags that already look great and just need a light touch up. and I LOVE the Lexol cleaner for wiping down bags and keeping the body oils and surface dirt off a bag. I've used Obenaufs conditioner too, and I like it, but since it's got wax in it, I won't use it repeatedly on a bag. I use Apple conditioner for Vachetta leather.

So I just bought a new Large Legacy Duffle & they suggested I buy the Coach Moisturizer for it. When I got it home I read it & it says that it has silicones. It also says for glove tanned leather but the creed on this doesn't say that it is glove tanned.

I also bought, at the SA recommendation the Coach Cleaner for the white leather back of my embossed python Kristin Hobo. It also has silicone in it.

If silicone is not good for leather why do they sell it? Is it OK to use it? Should I return it? I don't want to upset my SA. I might not get any PCE's. I'm also gonna go back & exchange the new duffle cos it has indentations in the leather.

Hey thanks! It sure is dirty but it was only $3 so I decided to buy it; you've given me hope that I may be able to clean it up!

How did you wash your shearling slippers? Woolite and delicate cycle and warm water? Did you pre-wash or pre-treat them at all? Thanks again!

Katev, you are apparently my idol, or partner in crazy. I think I bought your dirty suede wristlet's mama on eBay. She's probably much dirtier. It was a crazy, impulsive purchase and I truly think I bought her just to see if I could get her clean.

That's the problem with these smart phones...you can bid anywhere, and you get constant reminders of items in your watch list.

Oh wow, we need to stop buying these beat-up old bags! I still haven't tackled this burgandy spectator checkbook wallet, but this one just might be too far gone!

I'm not even sure I would have tried that old wallet!

It's like torture, she's in the washing machine now. I'm not sure why I even put this dirty old thing in my watch list. I like suede, and sherpa, but I'm not an ugg person and other than the sherpa "almost uggs' that I use as slippers (they're actually considered mules, but I don't really wear them anywhere, though I've used them to get to yoga class) It could have been the rehab challenge, maybe it was the low price-whatever. I had decided not to bid on it, but I didn't delete it from the list, probably because I was curious if anyone would buy this bag.

Anyway, my iPhone sent a notification and I was watching a movie on Netflix, and for some reason "LARGE" in the description caught my eye. I had thought it was a smallish bag. But even so...why did I bid on this thing? (she's 16 X 9 X 3, with a 22" drop, according to the description, though I haven't measured her). Large or small, I really didn't need her.

I wasn't going to post before pix when I brought it up, but just to kill some time while I wait for the final rinse:
