A yellow legacy leigh was my first ever dunk. She survived. The only thing I would say is that I used a coloured soap to clean the turnlock patch and that wasn't a good idea - it darkened the leather. Also, the plastic sealant around the turnlock patch is now a bit soft. I have read that some leighs did have issues with the sealant, or it may be that the bath and over enthusiastic conditioning that I gave her afterwards didn't help.

I'm kind of thinking of dunking a legacy vachetta now...decision has not been finalized.

No!!! I think it would be a disaster! Just getting a drop of water on vachetta makes a big ugly stain. I can't imagine what would happen if the entire thing were dunked. I don't think it would darken evenly.

what the heck are people doing to their bags? Almost every one I've come across in the last two weeks has damaged piping, and they aren't anywhere near vintage. I have seriously used bags from the 90's that are in better shape.

I bought Nekolassas avatar bag - the Cashin body bag remake, and it arrived today. I'm thinking about doing some more rehab work on her as the ink marks are still there, although much improved on the original condition. I knew about them before I bought it, so there is no problem there. I have found a Tandy leather factory store in Sydney and they will mail out to me. My question is for those of you who have used leather dye or paint - has anyone used Eco Flow brand leather dyes, or only Fiebings? For those of you who have used paint - have you used leather paint or artists acrylic? How are the bags wearing? I would probably want to cover the entire bag, maybe in a slightly darker colour, rather than just the spots. I'm also wondering about changing the colour completely, maybe to a purple or blue to match/ mask the ink. What do you think? Would it be awful to change it to a colour so far from the original?

I love purple, so you know my answer. I love that bag, and considered buying it, but some things around the house cam up, and there you have it. If it were mine, I would buy leather acrylic paint, just to be safe. I actually found some stores on EBay that have a good price on everything I want, Fiebing's dye and leather acrylic paint for a bone Coach in my rehab pile.

I think the Willis might be too small. The Stewardess is big enough. If she wants something more structured, she could consider the #9995 large shopper. It has a cross body strap but is pretty rare. The dimensions are great though - it is 13" by 11" by 5"". If she wants to go really vintage, then the slim tote might work. It is 12" by 11" by 2" and the double handles are long enough to wear on your shoulder.

This may or may not be of help, here is a basic bag I dyed. I did it very haphazardly, I just mixed some dye in with some Apple conditioner and rubbed it in. The coverage is not as smooth as it appears in this picture, but it looks pretty good. I think the unevenness in the color is due more to the state of the leather before I dyed it than my method, though I honestly could have tried harder to even it out. I wasn't very emotionally invested in this bag so I wouldn't have been superheartbroken if it didn't come out. I'm very happy with it now, however.

Thanks for the link - I read that when you did it, but forgot when I asked my question (d'oh!). Which Fiebing's dye did you use (I know you said tan, but which type of dye)? I think my bag will take dye well, it's not coated, and feels even 'raw-er' (if you know what I mean) than vintage coach bags.

I don't have a Willis or an iPad, but I thought I remember reading somewhere that it was perfect for an iPad? I would guess it wouldn't fit much else though.

I may have to get an iPad to go with my Slim Tote, she deserves it. ;)

I got an IPad 2 weeks ago, I love it! I don't know how I lived without it.

Maybe a little off-topic...here goes...
I'm considering parting with some of my collection of non-Coach bags.
Can any of my friendly rehabbers who resell lend me a little advice?
I have the basic skills for photos and copy writing and can determine prices based on ebay, etsy, etc listings, I'm just looking for a little validation and help.
Is it appropriate to cite authentications from tpf? Is it appropriate to identify myself as a member? I don't want to mess up.
And if it's not appropriate to discuss here, please PM me.
Thanks everyone, in advance.

I just used the "regular" alcohol based "Tan". After I purchased it I found a British Tan, but regular tan also matched my other British Tan bag-I tested it in a hidden spot-so I don't know what the BT looks like. The color on my basic bag was very yellowed though I am pretty sure it was originally BT.

I'd be tempted to experiment with the oil based colors, but I haven't done so yet.

I have a little droid tab, and one of the reasons I picked that (besides the price) was that I wanted something smaller-but I love it too. I have an iphone though and if they ever make a smaller iPad I might have to make a change.
