I asked this before. Docride suggests using both. Obenauf is a wax which waterproofs the leather.

So it probably darkens the leather also? I should probably try it to see if it has a place in my arsenal.

I don't think I'm going to be able to get the ink off the white bag, unfortunately. It's not too noticeable though so I'll make a decision after she dries. Cool bag though, worth working on. Hope I don't ruin it. :(

And...none of the after pictures are that great, but I'm posting them anyway. :) I had some navy wood stain left over from about 10 years ago that i used to touch up all the piping. I had to put some water in the bottle because I think it was completely solidified, but it liquified and worked fine. I conditioned with Leather CPR right after I touched up the piping to reduce any lines, but there is nothing noticeable. I followed with some Black Rocks but to be honest, the leather was pretty soft and cushy and in great shape for an old NYC bag:

It came without a hangtag so I grabbed the tags off my denim glam tote. However, they just look awkward in this picture but that's ok-if I don't post these I'll probably never get back to it.

these old Ramblers are huge! I mean, I knew the measurements, but I still didn't expect it to be this big. I pulled out my basic bag for perspective, because just about all of us have one, but these pictures don't really illustrate the difference very well. I probably should have taken a picture with my stewardess too.

Too much glare in this, but maybe you can tell how deep it is:

Even this doesn't show how the Rambler "swallows" up the basic bag, there's actually plenty of room for more stuff in there!

looks Great!!! Rambler is a great bag..I love it!

Do you wash bags because you buy them old, dirty and in need of cleaning? Or does the washing rejuvenate/moisturize the leather? I have repeatedly used the lotion on my old Coach bag, and then it looks good, but it always reverts to the faded and dull look. I know I should have used the conditioner on it more frequently over the years, but it has been stored away for some time. I really don't want to dye it or add a polish. But can the leather be helped? Thanks.

Not sure about old Coach lotion, but their current/ new moisturizer has Silicone in it which can cause a buildup over time which might become dull. A good gentle bath will clean off the old moisturizer, plump up and reshape the bag, then I'd use a silicone free moisturizer. I agree with about everyone else here...Leather CPR and Blackrocks are my 2 faves. I do use Lexol for bags that already look great and just need a light touch up. and I LOVE the Lexol cleaner for wiping down bags and keeping the body oils and surface dirt off a bag. I've used Obenaufs conditioner too, and I like it, but since it's got wax in it, I won't use it repeatedly on a bag. I use Apple conditioner for Vachetta leather.

Not a good picture in the lot, but this bag was a steal at $50. It was badly listed as a rambler's legacy with one bad picture that really emphasized the worm, faded piping.

All it needed was a bath and a little touch up on the dye and I have a great NAVY bag! Some times I feel bad cuz I cant get that $5 rehab project here, but this one is well worth what I paid.

To illustrate how a bath plumps a bag, here is a Patricia's legacy I got for $21. ( yay for badly listed bags!)

It was flat and floppy before her bath:

The only reason I gave this one a bath was to shape it. It was clean, just smooshed. I the after pix she's not stuffed because it was right before I brought her in from her final airing/drying. I can tell you though that if I lay her flat on her side, unstuffed, she'd keep that shape.

What do you guys recommend to clean and condition waxed leather like the poppy pushlock hippie waxed leather? My friend has a beige one that has some scuff marks and some fading on the corners, would baby wipes or magic eraser work for the dirt and what kind of paint would you recommend for the faded corners? or can you even paint it then put leather wax over it?

The Blackrock's is more of a crime, where the Obenauf's is more a traditional beeswax. The Obenauf's adds a nice sheen, but does darken leather. The bag
I used it on was dark brown, so no biggie. I did 2 layers of Blackrock's,with time to dry between coats, followed by 2 layers of Obenauf's, again with time to dry. Finished with a layer of Blackrock's. Looks great.
