My poor little brown Compact Pouch had some serious damage on the strap - probably dry rot, simply from neglect! Paid $7.99 at Goodwill in 2007. Hyacinth estimated her from the late 70s to 87, so she does have some age on her! Previous owner tied the knot in the strap, and I’m guessing the stress from that (and lack of conditioning) contributed to the cracking as well (whodathunkit?). See the before pics at http://forum.purseblog.com/coach-shopping/authenticate-this-coach-694619-723.html#post21941939

I did my usual warm bath with Extra Strength Dawn, rinse, reshape and conditioning with Leather CPR. I posted some of the work I did on the strap here: http://forum.purseblog.com/coach/coach-rehab-and-rescue-club-624452-221.html#post21961667

I finished the bag with Blackrocks and buffed with a brush. The finish on this bag looks more like a leather-bound book than a purse! The next day I dabbed on a little more acrylic on the strap and after a couple of hours, conditioned just the strap again with Leather CPR. I think this is something I can continue to improve...on a rainy day sometime in the future.

My black Compact Pouch has been in my closet since 2006, but I don’t remember where she came from, or what I paid! Much younger than the brown one, she’s in near mint condition after rehab! See the before pics at http://forum.purseblog.com/coach-shopping/authenticate-this-coach-694619-723.html#post21941977

She got the same rehab as her brown sister, with the exception of the strap repair...this one is in excellent condition, no cracks and really supple. I just touched up the edges of the strap with some black acrylic mixed with Lexol so it sinks in. I wish they were all this easy!

Nice job! We are bag twins again on the black compact pouch.

Dear All,
Has ant of you successfully removed white out marks from.a dark color bag? What is your trick for that? Thank you!

By "white-out marks" do you mean liquid paper stains or just whitish scuffs in the leather? Someone had spilled a bottle of liquid paper in a tan bag that I once rehabbed. It just disolved and washed away when I dunked the bag.

With bags that have a lot of scuffs and scratches, I find that giving it a bath and conditioning with black rocks is the best approach.

Can you post pics of your bag so that we can better advise you?

I am thinking about dying a bag with Fiebings but I don't know what color to get. I am think of dark brown, chocolate or mahogany. What color is closest to one that Coach used in the late 70's or early 80's? Will I get an even color, covering all the stains? Do I have to do something to protect the hardware from the dye? My bag has been conditioned with Blackrocks. Do I have to wash it again before I dye it?

was it Nekolessa who did a recent batch of dyeing with Fiebings? I too plan to dye a sun faded black Binocular bag back to a rich black again, which should be easy. I wish I could do it quickly enough to give you my thoughts on it, so I guess I"ll be waiting to see how yours goes. I do think you have to do some kind of "prep" like a deglazer or something. Do a search on dyeing bags. It's been awhile since I checked but I researched this a bit a couple months back and others in the forum have done some successful dyeing- a good while back.

Nekolassa dyed her Cashin bag a while back, and here is a link to it on Ebay - if you scroll down there is a link to her pictures on flickr. I think it was about mid March on the rehab thread too

Ooops, pictures are gone now. Sorry

I love the colour of the brown one, it's beautiful

I did look at this before when the listing was active. It looks like she wasn't able to cover all the stains with the dye but I am planning on using a darker color than the bag is currently. I don't want to do it if it won't cover the stains and make the color uniform.

If no one has any suggestions, I think I will get the dark brown as that will be most likely to cover all the stains. I'm worried that it might end up too dark. The color guide on the Fiebings website doesn't seem accurate as the mahogany looks red. I have to order the dye over the Internet so I don't have the benefit of seeing any of these in person.

Im so excited to share this one. I have been rehabbing this bag for seriously the past 2 weeks but so worth it!! I found it for $9.99 at Savers. It was tough, rough, scratched and dirty but it came out so nicely.

This was the one that I asked about the slice in the leather. Didn't fix it much but its on the back so its ok.

Looks beautiful!

Has anyone tried to rehab the discolored metallic handles on a Poppy glam? My silver handles are sort of a copper color on the underside where the color has rubbed off. If I paint them, I'm afraid the color will just rub off from handling.

Thanks Dear Katev,

The bag is in good condition and does not need a bath. But because of it, the white marks (one of them shown) stand-out well. Since this is pebble leather I worry that harsh soap-based wipe may hurt the grainy surface Assuming this is white out (correcting liquid), will water alone be enough to remove it?

I would try wiping it down with water and a soft cloth to see if that takes care of it. You could also try Lexol leather cleaner. I avoid using a thick opaque white cream conditioner with pebbled bags. I use Lexol conditioner or Leather Therapy Oil.

Good luck!
