There are also Lexol pH cleaning wipes (in the orange dispenser), also usually found in the autocare area/auto store (or tack shop). Docride recommends them, and I use them regularly. More than once, they have pulled off a lot of dye used by sellers to cover up flaws. Happened earlier today in fact!

I didn't know you may be able to find Lexol wipes at the auto store, I'm going to try that the next time I need them. I get them at the tack shop but they might be cheaper at the auto supply store. I use them a lot because I use the cleaning and the conditioning wipes before putting bags into storage, thanks!

I went to the Coach outlet store yesterday and came away with one gold hangtag. The sales associate looked at me like I was from Mars when I told her I rehab old Coach bags. I'm sure each of the 3 bags I took with me were older than she was. I looked around the store and only saw one bag there I would have spent $$$ on. They don't make Coach bags like they used too. Anyway, was happy with the one tag as I didn't buy anything, nothing ventured, nothing gained...

I have had better luck at the boutique store asking for hangtags. I usually say that I got the bag as a gift from a relative because they hate ebay and online sellers!

The boutique staff have always been nice when I ask for tags. Calling Coach in JAX is the way I have gotten most of my replacement tags, but they can take a long time to arrive in the mail. But they are free and authentic!

Ok.......as I was reading the last suggestion it came to me......Funny how that happens! LOL
I have a leather cleaner/conditioner that I got with my new sofa. It is called UV3. I read the intructions and it said it could be used for leather handbags as well as shoes; anything leather.
So I did a test patch in an area you would not see if anything bad were to happen:sad:
Everything was fine!!!! So I cleaned the whole bag and you should see the shoe polish that came off!!! I have no idea why they did this because the bag is in excelent condition
So thanks for your help! Here are some pictures of my Willis after the cleaning.

Your bag looks beautiful, I love the Willis style!

The seller probably tried to make it look brand new by using the shoe polish. If you continue to get color rub off, I would wash it with Ivory soap and water and treat it with rubbing alcohol to try and get rid of the color and then condition it.

I won one of these in an odd color, seller described it as off white, I was all set to paint her. When she came she is more of a very light tan. I like your color better. She is sitting in my pile of rehabs. Has anyone here used acetone as a color remover? I bought this bag on Ebay a few weeks ago. The seller described her as olive, which was fine by me. Turns out, she was black, at least her inside pocket still is. Anyway, I want a darker, rich brown. She is pretty faded all ready, will acetone take the rest of the color out? I know everyone says black bags are easy, but at 56 I just bought my first black bag ever in the last year. I just love browns, tans, oranges, greens, reds...

I have used acetone containing nail polish remover on light bags and it didn't hurt anything and it help get rid of some of the marks. I have never tried it on a dark bag though.

My wood stain is not minwax, but when I first used it on both my black bags and it dried, it looked pretty ordinary. The bags only looked great again after I had conditioned the leather. So if your bag looks a bit less than amazing initially, don't worry

I am both excited and terrified about staining the leather. I thought I would get better results at rehab than I have so far.

That is interesting about the hangtags. Most of my bags are from the nineties and all of those have double sided hangtags with just the word "coach". I only have one that has suede on the reverse and that one says "coach leatherware". This slim tote from 1980 says "coach leatherware" and it is impossible to see if there was any writing on the reverse at one time. I am wondering if someone did something to it to make it so dark on the reverse.

This looks so classy!

So after yesterday's panic using Blackrocks for the first time...I'm a believer now! Just when I thought I understood what squooshy was...now this! This product is simply amazing...after 2 light coats, drying in between and a good buff with a horsehair brush this morning...Wow! No rub-off and the sheen is wonderful. It makes me think there are a few recent rehabs that I could revisit...and probably improve.

Considering she's from the mid to late 70s, she looks fabulous! They just don't make bags like this any more...I'm consider myself very lucky to have this one,
and know how to take care of her. The only drawback is that the hardware appears to be plated :(

Thanks everyone for the tips and tricks that helped me make this happen!

Thanks KateV. I haven't had this one authenticated and got the name a few days ago from one of the other ladies. I was being a bit lazy, but will send it off to the wonderful authenticators to find out more. I am very curious to know

Hope you had a great holiday

Gorgeous bag, but that is not what my Basic Bags look like! Mine look like the link below (NMA).

Some of them have single straps and some have double straps, but none of them have a flap.

I actually have full strength acetone I bought at Wal-Mart. I like darker nail polishes, and the regular stuff takes forever to remove. The full strength is awesome. I do know it's drying. I may just try it on a patch to see what happens!

this looks like it might be the same color as my crescent bag? Is it kind of a yellowish tan? I love that style!

Sorry, I don't know what colour it was originally. The inside suede is lighter than the british tan bags I have seen in pictures, but I don't own one so have no actual comparison.

yes, it is a yellowish tan, but is getting a bit more golden/ butter scotch as I work on it. I like the colour and the style is very usable - fits all my stuff easily

They have the spray on Lexol at Wal-Mart in the car wax dept. You can't get much cheaper than that, at least in the area I live in.

Absolutely gorgeous! I find the black rocks very helpful in evening out the color and covering flaws. After I discovered black rocks and revisited some of my earlier rehabs too.

I have encountered plated hardware that had worn off and left the dull gray metal, but I have also successfully got rid of the tarnish and brought back the shine on a few bags using Wenol. I highly recommend it as a metal polish.

This is the little Pocket Purse from yesterday that was rubbing off green! After the second round of Blackrocks and an overnight rest...nothing! Just a buff with the brush and she just glows and is just crazy soft. I've never seen a bag with this thickness on the suede side...it's almost shaggy.

I'm very, very pleased...thanks everyone for the knowledge and encouragement!

Bag twins, she's beautiful!
