I ordered some Fiebing's leather dye today, to test, and I also bought some Angelus black acrylic for leather at a local leather shop... after reading all the Docride advice I am trying to use more products specially designed for leather for my repairs, and since it costs the same, I figured why not... hopefully the dye will arrive at the same time as the test subject...

Ok.......as I was reading the last suggestion it came to me......Funny how that happens! LOL
I have a leather cleaner/conditioner that I got with my new sofa. It is called UV3. I read the intructions and it said it could be used for leather handbags as well as shoes; anything leather.
So I did a test patch in an area you would not see if anything bad were to happen:sad:
Everything was fine!!!! So I cleaned the whole bag and you should see the shoe polish that came off!!! I have no idea why they did this because the bag is in excelent condition
So thanks for your help! Here are some pictures of my Willis after the cleaning.

This came out gorgeous!!!!

I purchased a Station bag with matching wallet. I gave both of them a much needed bath. The Station bag is drying nicely. However, the wallet and checkbook insert are staining my towels. I could not get the water run clear during the bath and I stood there for a good 20 minutes rinsing it. It is British Tan. Any suggestions? I am a little concerned about using the wallet for fear of getting it wet and staining things.

Thanks! Jill

Can we see photos of the wallet? The only time I have ever had any Coach item stain my towels was when the bag had ink on it. Does it look like maybe it has been dyed?

Basic bag before cleaning and almond oil

Basic bag after dunking, one very thin coat of lanolin, sun dry on the clothes line, and 3 coats of almond oil, with clothes line stint after each one. I'm not done yet, but this gives an idea of the darkening so far

Basic bag after dunking, one very thin coat of lanolin, line dry in the mild winter sun, 3 individual coats of sweet almond oil and sunning between each coat. I'm not done with this one yet, but you can get an idea of the colour change so far.

Looks great. Do you think the sunning darkens it more than it would otherwise? Can the almond oil turn rancid?

That color is stunning. Love it. It looks so deep and rich now. It now looks almost as dark as the color of the glove-tanned bag (below) which I believe was called tobacco (although it strangely looks nothing like the tobacco available now from coach.com) from about 10 years ago. I put in pic for comparison.

Do you know what color yours was originally? Mine used to be lighter before blackrocks.

I can't wait to see what you think. I too am really trying to just restore bags with leather-designed products. Whenever possible that is!

hi, looking good. i'm curious though about the binding, which now appears darker than the bag? why is that? i just bought a bag that has a darker binding and lighter body, and was wondering whether they were made that way, or whether somebody lightened the bag, or whether jax put on a darker binding. and now i see the same effect on your bag. any thoughts?

I've had a couple of Coach Wallets with leaching dye! My black one looked to be in good shape but I dunked her and even when dry, rubbing conditioner on her just wipes off more black dye. frustrating!! Same with the green one I just found. I am going to just condition and find a way to seal them. Not sure if I want to "paint" a teal green wallet yet.

I wonder if the Fiebing's Resolene acrylic paint sealer would seal the dye??? Docride reccomends it for LV bags ( the monogrammed canvas part ) to further protect.
