Apple Rain Guarde will darken suede. Not that this is necessarily a bad thing ... it will darken it evenly ... so it's only a problem if you're desperately in love with the exact shade the suede is now.

But it will darken the suede. (I know this from experience, having apple guarded my flint suede Coach Zoe. It is clearly a shade darker ... which is ok with me, but still a point to make nonetheless. And I know for a fact that it is a shade darker because I actually have an exact same duplicate bag ... literally a duplicate, but which has not been apple guarded. So I can literally compare the two in front of me. Daughter will eventually get the duplicate, that's why I have two.)

I should also add that the Rain Guarde makes the suede just a hair ... just a *hair* ... less "nappy" ... a hair less "fuzzy", if that makes sense. That change, however, is much less dramatic than the "shade/darkness of color" change.

Good point! I have only used Apple Garde on a few bags . I haven't had any problems so far but I have been testing them first. I spray some Garde on my finger and rub it on a spot that doesn't show, then it dry and sit for awhile before I spray the bag.

I'm so happy to have found this forum & love seeing the Rehab & Rescue pics. I haven't seen any mention of Coach products being used to condition. Is it a bad thing that I have used the Coach conditioner on my old Stewardess bag? :sweatdrop:

Coach brand conditioner is usually not recommended because there's silicon in it. Supposedly, silicon isn't good for leather in the longterm.

Of course, I doubt that just one treatment is going to cause a big problem. :flowers: In the future though, maybe switch to Apple or Lexol?

Apple's homesite is here: http://www.applepolishes.com/applepolishes/products.html
That site has a "Purchase" link, where it lists retailers throughout the US who sell it. It can also be purchased online on ebay, or other online retailers ... leatherstuff.com for example.

Leatherstuff.com is a reliable retailer, but it is really just one of various retailers from which you can buy Apple. (I'm lucky to live near a brick-and-mortar distributor.) Go to apple's site to see an actual list.

Maybe switch to one of those in the future, so that future conditionings do not introduce more silicon into the leather? :smile1:

I found this bag at a local thrift shop for $10. She was dry and scuffed and inside was full of hair and a stuck on "something"...not sure what. (I'm a barber so I wasn't too freaked out by all the hair. My work bags all look like that.)

Hyacinth I.D.'d it as a Standard Tote in a large size, Made in New York City (love that!) from about 1983. So she's about 28 years old. I bathed her, put a few coats of Leather CPR for deep conditioning, then a coat of Apple on top for that nice sheen. Here's the before shots:

Here's the after shots. She made a great bag to hold my Netbook computer.

Thank you - so I wonder what is Coach thinking - putting silicone in their conditioner & then recommending it for their leather? :shrugs:
