Nice selection, you've been busy!

Recently I picked up a wallet or wristlet or swingpack for $8. I knew that it was missing the strap because there were connecting D rings inside the back pocket. Hyacinth told me that it was a Sonoma Sling 4965 from 1995. Here are some before pics and a catalog photo from Hyacinth that shows the missing strap. I will post the after pics next.

Here are the after pics of the Sonoma Sling. I replaced the missing strap with a chain strap from a thrift store purse.

First up, this is quick look at the rehab on my black kisslock slim tote. I used the same procedure as for my black patricias legacy of a little while ago - bath, dye with wood stain and condition. This one will be for my personal collection, so I will be able to give feed back on the longer term performance of the wood stain. I have borrowed an newer hang tag for the after shot. What do you think - keep the tag or is it better without one?

I think it looks fantastic and you should keep the hangtag on it!

Your bag looks beautiful! You have inspired me to try woodstain, I bought a water based stain today since your brand isn't available in the US. How did you finish after you stained the bag?

Next up is my burgundy tote. The leather had come out of the front pocket on this one and I fixed it up in my husbands shed, using a tool of some kind I found on his bench, a screw driver and some pliers (? maybe called something else). I ended up taking the leather covering off the metal arch of the kisslock, mainly because I was impatient and it was much easier to get the leather to go back in without it. The leather covering the arch had come off at the back and kept blocking the gap. I had seen a few of these bags with just a metal kisslock and was reasonably certain it would look good with uncovered metal. I used a small screw driver to gently lever the gap open a touch so the leather would go back in place and then used pliers to secure it. I could probably make it a bit tighter, but didn't want to bend the metal.

You can see a few of the marks/ stains on the bag too

After fixing the kisslock pocket I decided to give the burgundy tote a clean up. The leather had not been looked after and felt very dry with some cracking/ perishing ? to the straps and just not the same feel as my black tote.

I cleaned her with my liquid saddle soap and lost lots of colour on the washer, without removing any of the stains. Then I gave her a cold water bath with some wool wash, with very little colour loss. As she dried she felt very stiff, so I tried some intensive leather restoring lotion. This is the white stuff in the picture. I massaged it in with my fingers. The stains on the bag seemed very obvious and had multiplied! I next tried lanolin (ultra pure) and massaged this in with my fingers. It was very greasy, and unfortunately I did this on a towel and the lint from the towel stuck fast to the bag! I tried lint brushes, but ended up wiping the lint off with a damp cloth.
