Coach Quality

Well, I've had "inferior brands" that fell apart almost as soon as I got them home, and there was no warranty on them at all - once I took something with a broken zipper back with a receipt dated the day before, and it was just my tough luck - no refunds, no returns.

One of the things I like about Coach is they do have a long warranty and I've actually only seen that on same/higher price point brands.

I only have two Coaches (one new and one pre-loved) and have had no problems with them, but I've seen reports here about the exact same bags where others have had problems - so I guess I got the "pick of the litter" on mine!

^^ That's my point. Coach is not known historically to be an inferior brand...but, in the past year the quality has deteriorated to the point that it becomes a safety net. That's something you would expect from an inferior brand.

again, out of curiousity which inferior brands are you referring to that has a warranty par with what coach offers?

logically you'd think if the stuff is bad the company would have a horrible policy of both return and warranty. forever21 for example, no returns whatsoever..only credit to exchange and even that's limited!! why? because once you buy it they don't want lose the cash in returns. you might be caught up in the moment and think oh, it's cute! and you know that stuff there flies off the shelf..so if you don't get it then you might not see it again..

as for warranty? there is none.

^^ I never referred to handbags specifically--check my post.

I simply pointed out that depending on a warranty to sell your product is typical of inferior product.

Also, just for the record, I do not think Coach is an inferior product. If I did, I wouldn't purchase it.

;)

Also, note that there's a big difference in the price point of the products at Forever 21 and Coach. As a result, the expectation of how long the product will be useful differ widely. There's a big difference in how long a $15 dollar product should last vs. a $300 dollar product. Agreed?

Agreed. I too have never had any issues with my Coach bags.

:p

I'm sorry I just thought it makes sense to compare coach with other handbags? :shrugs: (when you talked of inferior quality)

also of course I can't compare forever 21 to coach ideally cos it IS inferior to Coach but you said inferior brands..and forever 21 does carry bags the last time I checked..

I also am still curious to which inferior brands are you referring to..unless you already replied..someone else made mention of lands end and ll bean but I don't think you did (reply)

they just dont make it like they used to... a total cliché but this is true of anything. i also know coach stands behind their product and if it is defective i wont b stuck w a lemon. i cant say the same for other brands.

That's about the sum of it.

Coach was built on their reputation of quality leather goods...I look at my mom's bags from the 80's with the thick, rich leather, durable hardware and perfect stitching...something definitely worth investing in. I do not recognize that same quality in many of the lines produced today. We can debate the reasoning behind it all day long, but no longer can one buy a bag with the Coach name and be completely assured of quality craftsmanship and materials, like they used to be.:s

I was just at a Coach store today grousing to the salespeople about this. I had a PCE burning a hole in my pocket, but couldn't find a single thing I wanted, either style-wise or quality-wise. I mentioned to the salespeople that if Coach brought back the thick leather of yesteryear, the classic styling, or the Legacy-type bags, including that gorgeous silk striped lining, I'd be willing to spend $500 on a bag. The saleslady said that they keep telling corporate to bring back the striped lining, but that they were told that the thick quality leathers are not "cost-effective." I'm very disappointed.

Yikes this thread scares me. I know somethink Coach is the low end of name brand bags but for ME it's not. for ME someone that used to only buy a purse that cost less then $50 it was a big big deal to get a coach ( 2 now!!) so reading this thread has kinda scared me.

^i understand for some, it is a lot of money.

i think what i am trying to get at, esp when replying to other member's comments is that for what it is worth, it is STILL better then other brands that are comparable in terms of price, the 'quality' coach churns out.

is it as nice as legacy? no, but its not as expensive either (below)

bless you, you are one of the rarer ones.

seriously, there seems to be a generated interest but somehow the sales fall short of it being good enough, to bring back..?

i understand the quality isn't as what it used to be, there was a point where there was nice leather, and legacy lining..at that price point of 400-500$ average..BUT.................not much buys..and so they brought it back down (the price point, because pple are complaining about how expensive it is) but naturally the quality goes down as well

i mean, what company out there would actually raise the quality and lower the price? i know it seems like a stupid question and of course, we should expect more! but bottom line is will it happen? has ANY company done this??

i'd like to know, and maybe i'll start purchasing from them if the stuff is nice/cute/appealing enough.

Oh, it is a LOT of money. But when the bags were of excellent quality, I only needed to purchase one every year or two. Which of course doesn't make Coach any money off of me. But with the lowered quality and recent styling, I'm not buying any of the new stuff anyway, so they aren't making money off me. But they are certainly doing very well without me!

I've been buying higher end stuff secondhand in the last couple of years - Miu Miu, Prada, Anya Hindmarch - and haven't paid more than $200 for all but one of my "new-used" all leather bags.

Certainly some v intersting points in this thread I wonder how all the deffective returns fit into the pricing strategy I'm thinking we end up paying for those too
