Coach Is Closing 70 Full Price Stores

The much touted Vevers Fall line-up hasn't even fully landed at my local stores and already I'm over it with the following deal breakers -

1) The slit phone pocket behind Smythe reminds me of B Makowsky - too bad I was looking for a light weight bag but I don't want to feel like paying FP for what looks like should be hanging at TJ Maxx.

2) I was so looking forward to the studded luxury bags but when I saw that the Edie only has it on one side - too reminiscent of again TJ Maxx pleather one-sided design bags. It looks so half finished, it represents something lacking at the core of Coach's design attitude. It's like Coach is saying half is good enough for our clientele.

3) The scratchy cheap lining replacing the thick satin.

4) I was late in becoming aware of Coach's older designs and just learning about them on TPF and Ebay. Designs like the Kristin Sage, Legacy esp the 65th Anniversary bags, Tattersall, old Bleecker designs. The old studded Abbey bags while too heavy for me would be a much more impressive studded design than what's out now.

5) I never liked Phoebe, Madeline, Borough, Urbane, Georgie, Preston, Toaster, Brooklyn...now Carlyle, Edie. The feathers sold separately reminds me of airlines charging for blankets, pillows, earphones, etc.

5) The price increase just isn't justified for the above bags. But it's not just the price, it's that the bags don't seem worth saving up for when there are other alternatives including their own older designs at better price points in NWT and NWOT conditions.
All of the bags you mentioned are actually still Reeds bags except the Edie. I like Stuarts new bags, especially the Rhyder, I don't like the leather on the Crosby, but was just told it was also a Reed bag.

I agree with you. I think the leather on the current Hamiltons is a little nicer, but I liked the older leathers that Coach used to use better. I just bought one of the MK haircalf camo bags, and it's ok, but I remember when Coach was better. I do feel like MK is a better investment right now, though, and I see that brand carried more often around here than Coach. It's always been largely signature here, but I used to see more Coach.
to be honest, I was an MK fan before, but their future isn't looking too bright either.

I've never liked any of the MK bags I've seen/touched in person. SO MUCH SAFFIANO. I'm a sucker for soft squishy chewy leather. The non-saffiano MK I've handled is very thin! It's just not for me. And I don't like the copycat styles. And Kors himself... yeah I don't like him, either!

Marc by Marc Jacobs -- now that's the kind of leather I like. And Rebecca Minkoff, before the quality there fell off a cliff.

I agree on everything in this post. :smile1:

The blatant copy cat style really turn me off. Right now, he has copies of just about every premier designer out there.

I agree with you! It would be nice if they would do a variety actually, and a few throwbacks would be nice, but Coach seems to like the eggs in one basket theme. I loved this Legacy collection too and still have most of mine with the exception of a few pieces I got rid of over the years. I recently found a Legacy Mandy in whiskey at an antique flea market in perfect condition (with the exception of a few scratches I conditioned out) for $80!! I snatched that right up after almost fainting (since I wasn't expecting that)!! However, I think this line was deemed "too heavy" and "too pricey" for most people, so they went the other extreme. A lot did go to the outlets.

Now they apparently have a new process that shaves off a layer of the leather so that they can still use high quality leathers. I still don't like thin, though, and I still don't like the leather on the lower end Rhyders. The Dakotahs and some of the other upper end pieces in Vevers' line are pretty nice. I have a feeling some people will say a few of these bags are still too heavy, though!

What a great deal on the Mandy! That was a pricey bag. I don't like too thin of a leather either. I like the glove leather on the older coach classics. I just wish those had some interior zip and slip pockets but I guess they wouldn't be classics then.

The Ryder looks nice but it also reminds me of a factory bag I have. Its got pebbled leather, a turnlock I think its a Penelope satchel 2011.

I was at the mall last Saturday afternoon and every time I walked past the Coach store... it was EMPTY! :tumbleweed: I didn't see a single shopper in there!

Our mall coach always looks empty too. We went in during the summer and were the only ones there. With Macys and Dillards having sales though, it seems more logical to shop where you can get a discount. Maybe Coach should bring PCE back. I used to buy from the boutique with my pce card.

I have never seen anyone in the COACH store at the Avenues mall here in Jacksonville, FL. NEVER. I have been in there a few times and I'm the only one in there with 2 sales associates. How do they stay open?

PS I love the tumbleweed smiley!!
