Coach Is Closing 70 Full Price Stores

The much touted Vevers Fall line-up hasn't even fully landed at my local stores and already I'm over it with the following deal breakers -

1) The slit phone pocket behind Smythe reminds me of B Makowsky - too bad I was looking for a light weight bag but I don't want to feel like paying FP for what looks like should be hanging at TJ Maxx.

2) I was so looking forward to the studded luxury bags but when I saw that the Edie only has it on one side - too reminiscent of again TJ Maxx pleather one-sided design bags. It looks so half finished, it represents something lacking at the core of Coach's design attitude. It's like Coach is saying half is good enough for our clientele.

3) The scratchy cheap lining replacing the thick satin.

The lining is just appalling. The leather is not luxe. The details are not special. I had such high hopes for this new "high end" direction. But they didn't spend where it counts -- the product. I think this is going to backfire big time.

My SA actually emailed me to try to get me excited about the Edie. I wrote back and asked if there will be any new small Phoebes.

It's really dumb that Coach doesn't keep favorite styles around, and I don't mean watering them down for factory stores. I love that MBMJ has made the Fran tote for years and years, that Rebecca Minkoff has the MAC and the MAM. Coach keeps around very old styles from the 70s, but not the Sabrina or the Sophia?

I really dislike the signature lining and the new styles aren't wowing me. I've bought MK bags lately because I'm not into Coach like I was. I prefer older styles like many here.

they need to keep going with what works. Functional styles that just work. there's a reason why my 1st lux item was from coach. I tried looking at other brands but none of them had the functional style I was looking for. At the time I was looking for something like the medium zip around but had plenty of pockets and had ease of getting cards in and out. Getting rid of stuff that just works isn't imo a good idea lol. Sadly the style that 1st attracted me to coach is now only available on fos and at the outlets.

I was shocked when I got to see the studded Carlyle in person. I was ready to really like it. So lightweight it felt like it wasn't even there. How thinly did they slice that leather? The lining? I'll be polite and just say "no."

I've bought two of the original Boroughs at deep discount off eBay and a Bloomingdales sale. I have my eye on one more. But only at deep discount. Really, really done with Coach's cut quality/ raise prices strategy.

I'm thinking of going to my local fp store and seeing these new bags for myself. I haven't yet taken the good hard look because I always have my 7 mo/o with me. Now I'm really not excited to see the bags in person with all the reports of inferior product. I knew it was happening but to see it in person might be the nail in the coffin for me with Coach. I will be sad if I have to face yet another year without a new Coach bag.

Actually I love the grommet carlyle. The leather is breaking in to a nice rich sheen. It does not look cheap and it breaks in well. I have the large. But I got it at 25% off which makes it a "normal" price for a Coach purse.

I have the grommet borough but it's not love. Maybe its because I paid full price for it. I agree with you that $400 or so is my top price I want to pay for a Coach bag. After that, I start to see the defects, the lower quality, the cut corners (lining etc) and feel I have overpaid. :smile1::cool:

Went to my fp today and omg. The new lining is horrible and the leather feels really cheap. Seriously thin leather that feels chalky and dry. What is Coach thinking? The SA wanted my info so she could call when the new stuff all comes in (I saw the limited stuff they had in the back) and I hesitated. I really didn't like the small Rhyder she brought out. It was tiny and felt like a cheap bag you would buy for $20. So disappointed in Coach. I wanted to like it all so much and I didn't.

Anybody seeing Coach Outlet handbags at Winners lately? Up here in Canada, these are priced as if they aren't from the outlets and then they are discounted but not enough - not enough. With 70 retails stores closing, I'm just curious if Winners will receive a bunch.

I have! I've seen them in Edmonton and in Halifax. I was actually surprised to see them! I've seen leather, coloured siggie and nylon file bags. Oh and I also saw some wallets and wristlets-all Outlet.

Jane you are so right. I agree.

My SA sent me the same email. Sorry Edie isn't me. I sooooo want to love a V design, but his aesthetic just isn't doing it for me. :( Makes me sad.

I am disappointed that the regular size Phoebe has left the building. Why d/c a luxe big seller? Why Coach, why?

Have you had a chance to "examine" more new SV bags? I must admit, I have fallen in love with (2) variations of Rhyder 33 and the Rhyder Messengers BUT when I really do a careful comparison between quality, materials & new price point - I am let down. Yes, I really, really do want to LOVE them and I will see what I think when the red nubuck Rhyder 33 arrives in 10-14 days but...these are getting very $$ for Coach and yet, they are not matching their new prices with pristine quality and high end materials!!!
