Coach Is Closing 70 Full Price Stores

The frustrating thing for me is that it seems like Coach doesn't stick with plans or maybe they don't have many. It feels like they put an idea out there and if they don't see instant results they switch lanes. FOS, for example, was supposed to change the format and have some type of sale going each day. That lasted for a week. Then the announcement that no more deletes would be going to the outlets but outlets got deletes this week.

From what I've seen at my FP stores regarding the Semi-Annual sale is that they are gonna have to reduce prices to move all that merchandise.

I really think Coach has a serious problem with manufacturing too much product.

+1000 on the first point
+1000 on the second point
+1000 on the third point
.

Someone posted that Coach has 30 of each style in the back room. While that may be true of the outlets this is not so of the full price store. They carry 3 of each. This was not always the case but started about 2 years ago. Most of the time I have to order my bags from the store because they only have the display left. I cannot even tell you the last time I actually left the store with a shopping bag

If Coach took longer to send bags to the outlet the model would work. There are always going to be folks willing to pay full price for Coach or any brand. As long as the item is not on sale in short order. If they waited 6 months or more, there would be folks willing to pay fp and those wanting to wait it out. The thing I don't like about the semi-annual sale is that it seems to be "select styles" and some bags just seem to vanish even though you know they did not sell out.

I also like some folks' suggestion about a permanent collection. I have long thought this also. They should choose a classic satchel, tote, duffle, shoulder and mini. And occasionally add more colors and designs to these styles. Sure make styles in addition to these, but have fewer revolving door styles

No I am talking about full price stores! A good friend of mine is the store manager at a local fp coach boutique and she tells me this all the time. They dont receive them all at once, but for example, I guess they havent been selling the sullivan very well, and it has not been moving in the store at all, yet they keep sending them more of every color each week in shipment, to where they have 30 pink ruby in the back and a plethora of every other color. I don't understand the math there? If something isnt selling you don't keep adding to its stock? From what I heard in new info, (This is supposed to be Coach secrets, but I know I can trust all of my tpf'ers lol) is that yes PCE is being replaced by the semi annual sale, some outlets are closing and more are going to continue to close, and less logo overall in both fp and outlet. It's just "news" for now so we'll see.

I've heard too that more and more outlets are to close. But what I don't understand is why they are also opening new ones. I was sent a press release just last week they they are working on a new factory store that is near where I live. There is already an outlet about 45 miles from the new one.

Coach, we know you're reading what we're saying. We love you, but you're taking us for granted by trying to sit with the kids you think are a little cooler than us. We are your demographic, and we have quite a bit of money to spend. If we want a $1-2K bag, we know where to get it. We haven't been waiting around hoping you'd increase prices. Do the math - would you rather have 100 people buy about $300 every month, or $1K every 6 to 9 months? You have a customer base other brands dream of - we're taking time out of our lives to tell you what we want, and it sounds the same every time! We really care, and want you to be successful! 💐

+++++1 You said it sista! Boy, I really wonder if they are going to survive this? And what you said in earlier post: they have simply flooded the market and turnover is too high, too fast - hard to value surplus goods.

I'm in Canada and our Winners (same company as TJ Maxx & Marshalls) will be flooded with Coach I bet what with 70 stores closing in NA. We already get quite a bit and I hate it when Coach outlet bags show up but they are not priced appropriately (too high).

You are so right! It is so frustrating to spot a Coach on the rack, sprint over, and find it priced at the full outlet price!

I think the Mens outlets were a silly idea. Stick to the regular priced mens bags and transfer unsolds to the factory stores. They rarely have more than a few mens items anyway.

Factory store mens line? Is there a need?

NO!!

ITA it was a bad idea. my outlet is divided into two areas and the men's side is always deserted! it's a waste of good space even though it is much smaller. your idea of sending the unsold to the FO is much better idea.

I really like that idea. To rename the full price line instead of the outlet line. That way the outlet shoppers will still get a Coach and it adds an air of exclusivity to the boutique bags. The full price shoppers will know they bought from part of an elite collection. All while still keeping the Coach name in both lines. I also think Siggys should be sold exclusively in the outlets. Again if they want their FP shoppers to not think of Cs when they see/hear Coach....no offense against Siggy, I have a few Siggy and Op Art bags that were FP but I think it follows their new strategic plan and is in line with what the analysts say

Renaming the full price line is what I've always believed would have been a great strategy for them. Similar to Michael Kors vs Michael Michael Kors, or something along those lines. When I was younger, I always told myself when I became more successful, I would move on to higher end brands like Celine, Hermes etc. And then I grew up, and realized that I just love Coach. I would be willing to pay Celine prices for a nice Coach bag. And I'm sure there are others who feel the same. However, not too many people want to pay $2000 for a brand that has $50 bags or a brand that will discount that same $2000 bag to $380 in a few months.

Like others have stated, once your brand has become too diluted or developed a certain reputation, it's almost impossible to go backwards. Guess can't just wake up today & decide they want to be Louis Vuitton.

And what confuses me the most is their main goal seems to be to stop the dilution of the brand, yet they are closing 70 FP stores and only 5 outlets. I simply don't get it. The brand is diluted because of outlet stores and MFF. None of their decision making or rationale makes any sense. I feel like these people have no idea what they're doing. They're just throwing out every idea they have out there to see what will stick. I sold my stocks last year and I haven't looked back. I knew this was coming, and I'm predicting it's only going to get worse. No way they're turning this around in 2 years. None of their decisions points to this happening.

Banning people from buying on FOS when your company is losing money is still absurd to me. Resellers and Ebay is not the reason your brand is diluted. Outlets and MFF are to blame.
