Couple of comments:
1. Rather than starting at the beginning, start at the end and go backwards. There's enough info that's repeated and there's less apt to be as many broken links.
2. You're correct that the drilldown is no more.
3. There's no database of serials numbers, partly because there would be so many that it's impossible to get them all but more important is that a serial number can NEVER prove an item as authentic. Just because a bag (or other item) seems to have a "correct" style number that seems to "match" the item it's on doesn't mean that the item is authentic.
For bags made later than 1993 (1994 and later) with exceptions between 2014 and 2016, it's not the full serial number but the suffix (second 1/2 of serial number) that would indicate the style on an AUTHENTIC item.

Again, a serial number or correct style number cannot prove an item as authentic although it can prove an item as fake.
