I am actually surprised some SAs processed preorders for 1941 stuff with F&F as I thought it has been the case for a while that F&F and PCE specifically excluded 1941; though I do recall during last SAS if you an (F&F?) code you could get extra 20% off 1941 items already marked down on sale.

I do all my Coach buying online so no F&F for me which is fine as I am also not interested in anything new and am also on a long no buy. I have so far bought all my 1941 at 50% or more off and plan to keep it that way though as it does bother me to see sales a few weeks after buying something full price, even if those sales are only for a select few (different if your an employee or actual family though, one of perks or silver linings to working retail!)

I don’t think an SA not giving you an F&F code should be taken personally. My understanding is the F&F really it is a friends and family discount and it is up to SAs how they want to use their limited number of codes. Yes, some SAs will offer to customers, but it is subjective and not/not just based on how much you buy (I mean people can spend tens of thousands at Hermes and still be told they can’t even have opportunity to spend another $8,000+ on a Kelly/Birkin, so not getting a n F&F code seems downright palatable!)

If I was an SA, I will be honest, I would probably give my codes to my actual friends and family. When I worked retail, you bet I took those little kinds of perks (which did not come along often for employees) and shared with my family and friends.
The last F&F during the semi-annual sale included 1941 items except for the Bandit and regular rogue and you could get an additional 20% off the sale items. You're correct all the previous F&F and PCE excluded 1941. I think it depends on if family and friends want the discount and if they don't the SAs will pass it on to customers.

It's funny how you bring up Hermes, since in the 3 1/2 years I purchased from Coach, I have spent enough to buy a Birkin; and no, I'm not joking. Most of it was purchased in the first 2 years, and then I felt really silly for that. Morever, in my foolish mind, sometimes I even felt bad to buy low-stock items from the website, and not through the SA. Maybe others with more experience with the company can chime in, but I didn't think Coach is a brand that would play power-games.

In my family, I'm the only one who's crazy about bags; of course, I know there are "real" family and friends SAs would want to hand the F&F out to; but in all these years of buying, to never know that the promotion even existed until I saw it in the forum? I feel betrayed, and since it's too much time and energy to spend (both for the SAs and for me) to even think about it, I'll just take my business elsewhere. Hope others are able to pick up great discount pieces!

If the discount is intended for sales associates to give to their friends and family then I don’t see the issue. It’s one small perk of working in retail so I don’t see the issue with the staff having control of who they give it to. If I worked there I’d be using it for my real friends and family too tbh!

Does anyone know when the sharky coin purses might be hitting the website? I don’t live near a store so am stuck with what’s available online and am getting antsy!

But my point was getting an F&F code is not really about how much you spend at Coach or if you are told you are their "best customer" (which yes, often can be used as flattery, but also the question is what makes someone a "best customer" in their view? For me that was never actually solely about the money someone spent). I think many members here have spent enough for a Birkin this year alone on Coach (and more). My point is that I am sure many of your SA's OTHER customers (as many members here are also, well, customers) have spent a lot, as well. And the majority of members here, and the majority of "real life" customers, did not get F&F codes.

I admit I have a hard time understanding why you are upset to have never known about the promotion until recently. It is not a public promotion, at all: the public gets their own promotions like SAS, PCE, holiday sales, and other promotions (including at department stores). Several times a year! To me not knowing about a private perk like this that is available to retail staff to give to their friends and family is no different than not knowing what employee discount someone might get at Coach, or any other retail store, and then being upset to find out you paid full retail for something they, as one of the few perks of working retail, were able to buy for cost plus 10% or something. Working retail can really, really suck a lot of the time, so I do not see any issue with these "private perks".

A Coach SA gets a very limited number of F&F codes (5, is what I have heard as well) and the "idea" is for family and friends but of course they can give to whom they like at end of the day (or to no one at all). An SA has potentially dozens to hundreds of "regular" customers depending on how long they have been working at a store. Some SAs may NEVER give out the codes to customers, some may do so time to time, but certainly it is up to them, and if they do, they have many customers to potentially choose from. I am sure many SAs have friends and family who would love the codes, even if your own family is not full of purse addicts.

The only reason F&F is even "known" or discussed here on tPF is because some members have said they did get one from their SA (this time, or at other times). I know there are other members who deliberately do NOT mention getting it because they know it is not a public thing and are sensitive to other forum members who may have just paid full price for something. But again, it is not a public promotion. I am sorry you feel slighted your SA did not actively tell you about it, but if you really wanted one...you could just ask your SA about it. The worst that can happen is she says no or that she has already given them away.

Of course it is always your choice as to whether to spend your money and take your business, you don't need to even have a reason, or justify it to anyone. But it is likely a good idea to take your business elsewhere, especially if you feel "betrayed". You don't want to buy bags with that "negative" vibe about the brand.

Both of you have good points, and maybe this is enough on this topic. ;) Personally, my objection is about 1941 bags and Coach's lack of consistency with them. If sales people can get a break, good for them! Anyone who deals with the public needs some love once in a while.

I agree about the inconsistency. I bought a 1941 item, among other items, during PCE. I picked my item before the PCE started and told my SA. At the time I picked it, it wasn't classified as 1941, so I truly believed I was getting the PCE rate. Plus I added Coach cleaner that I didn't need to my order in order to reach the next tier of discount. The day the PCE started, Coach reclassified the item as 1941, probably because it was selling well. To add insult to injury, I could have gotten it on ebay for the discounted price, but by the time they had reclassified it, it was sold on ebay. The SA fulfilled the order without telling me that I wasn't getting any discount on the item, even though she knew that is why I was buying it then. If she had given me a choice, I would have asked her to remove it and the cleaner from my order. Once I got them, it was too much trouble to ship them back so I kept them, but I'm not happy with Coach.

Here are some pictures of the bag I got.
So far I like it! It has a magnetic closure, and 3 separate compartments, and strap is removable to make it a clutch if you want

The penguins are adorable! It is so prett! So much detail! Does it hold much? Is this the same size as the Swagger shoulder bags? I think those were too small for me. I need to fit a long wallet.

ETA: The strap attachment is so clever. No rings hanging out if you decide to use it as a clutch.

I could care less about the actual promotion itself; it's more like I felt I have given the SA every possible business (even when some departmental stores had slightly lower prices), and then my best interests are not looked out for in return. Once she even thought I wasn't on PCE (despite working with her for years, and had it every time)-it was only because of a phone chat to another SA out-of-state that I even knew I had one. Or, the mantra that Coach is always so good about feeding every customer? Oh the ________ (the borough, rogue bag, insert whatever) will never be on sale-then what do you find 3 months later?

It's great people are in love with the bags that they'll pay full-price; I'm just not part of that group, so maybe the stores have-higher-dollar customers. What I find "betrayed" about, is if the SA's will just hand the F&F's out when certain customers are waffling about the purchase; I suppose I'm too easy to make a sale on, that's why they never even think of offering it?

My new zippy quilt wallet easily fits!
I don’t own the swagger shoulder bag, so can’t compare
