I had a look at Vevers' collection and I was NOT impressed with the bags. The clothing was cute, however. But those bags! NO!

When the Borough came out I was excited and lustful. Finally! A decent Coach bag! Then I got one and never used it. I like the Borough aesthetically, but it just wasn't me. So it's been sitting unused in the closet for three months. I meant to return it but kept having second thoughts. That's when I found out about the Mansur Gavriel bucket bags and OMG am I ever in LOVE! I pre-ordered the Brandy/Avion bag and it should be getting here in early march. I'm FINALLY returning the Borough this coming week when the weather lets up.

I do like the Borough, but I have to admit it is a little boring. That's when I realized what the problem with Coach is. A lot of their stuff is just humdrum boring to me! The Mansur bag is simple and unfussy, but it is a practice in sleek modern minimalism. It is EFFORTLESSLY cool. The Borough and Coach's new bags could have been just as sleek and smart, but their edge was tempered by the addition of superfluous zipper tassels and ugly "vampire fangs" (whatever you call those things that Coach seems to put on their bags to anchor the handles). And don't even get me started on those ugly Bleeker totes. Now, it looks like Vevers' bags are trying to hard to be cool and edgy to attract the cool-girl tastemakers.

My problem with the Borough was that it was "nice enough," but seemed like the target audience was more the corporate middle manager type. Too 9-5, M-F quotidian for me. I'm too young and creative for that kind of bag. The other offerings are just boring, and Vevers' bags missed the mark by a long-shot. The Mansur bags keep selling out, however. I think women (and men) want bags that are chic, edgy and effortlessly cool at a REASONABLE price! Why can't the middle market brands understand this? Tastes have
changed.

I know this is briefly off topic but where did you pre order your brandy/avion bag? The only place locally that's getting them is only getting the raw interior and when I emailed Mansur they didn't offer any additional information about where I could pre order another option.

I ordered it from Steven Alan but it appears that both the brandy avion and black flamma pre-orders have sold out. They still have unlined black and brandy, as well as Camello antico bags left, though. I know Jenni Kayne was getting the avion, too but they never responded to my email. You can try calling them.

Yes what in the world would you want hanging from the bottom of your bag??? Keys? A charm? What is it for?

Well, just watched the runway show as well. Um the big oversized, bloated, sneaker shoes are absurd (although I've seen quite a few pics of celebrities wearing them as of late). I do like a couple pair of the taller boots.

The bags look like nice smooshy leather, but they all have either short handles or extremely long crossbody ones?! I realize this is just a small sneak peek so we will have to wait and see! :smile1:

I guess those sneakers are still "in" because i've read a few reviews of the Coach RTW show and the writers always comment on loving the shoes!!

These are the times I feel really, really old! :p

PS
I still don't know what I'm hanging from the bottom of the bag! LOL

I understand everything that you all are saying about the models, their weight, shape, complexion, lack of emotion and eyebrows..... etc etc. But the "average" woman doesn't sell clothes and shoes and handbags. Designers want to stand out, they want to be seen as the newest.... the most cutting edge...they want everyone talking about their runway show. They want the shock value! That's what sells....not me carrying a handbag going to work! I don't and won't give any designer of any retail item much of my thoughts or emotions! It's a material object. If I like something I will buy it and if I don't I won't!

So, I asked my husband what he thought about the models...he shrugged and said, "Don't all models look like that?"

Did you see the pix from the Alexander Wang RTW show? If not, take a look--I'm not sure what's going on here--again, I must be getting old:

Ok, I admit that statements like that make me curious :flowers: .... what generation are we talking here? I recently turned 45. Late eighties were my high school years. I think the grunge look was early nineties college for me?

As to the shoes, I admit I wouldn't wear them (especially not purchased as an expensive shoe, I admit). I was the one who first said "Diesel", and I think the other word "grunge" that others tossed out works too. Just my impression from what I recall of my younger years.

Oh. This group looks like they want to kick the crap out of somebody. Lol. I am old. I don't know enough to know why models need to look like this. My only guess is to stand out? The shock value?

I guess the target must be early twenties...as someone who wore Creepers, Doc Martens and steel toe workbooks in my late teens and early twenties that's my guess!

Saint Laurent kicked off the 90s grunge redux for Fall 2013 so I guess this is meant to be derivative of that trend.

Anyway, not for me, but now that I remind myself that I wore Creepers and Docs, I guess I get it! --cause those were some clunky shoes! LOL

See, I don't think the whole thing can just be labeled as a generational thing. I do know Martens and creepers were popular at some point during my younger years (couldn't pinpoint exactly when, off the top of my head), but I never wore anything like that. Which is probably why I couldn't pinpoint exactly when, and probably why I had to google those words just to see what we were talking about. ;) Even when they were popular, they were far from popular with everyone. It was just one group that wore that particular fashion statement. And that's a generally true statement for every generation -- I'm not pointing to this stuff as a unique case. :shrugs:, just thinking outloud here. So it's not really a matter of age or generation, more a matter of personal taste. :shrugs:.

I should have finished that thought. (Sorry, I'm high on cold meds right now.)

I say that because I don't think it's going to boil down to whether or not Coach can attract a specific age group. Not really, from a purely financial standpoint. The question is more along the lines of how many of their previous customers will leave, as opposed to how many new ones can they attract, and that's always a risky question for any company trying a large change. (And that's the kind of wild bouncing Coach seems to be doing a lot of these last years. That was my true point. :smile1: ).

I'm in my early/mid twenties. Those do not appeal to me at all!
I'm thinking more high school/University age...so you're right about the late teens and really early twenties! I couldn't imagine any of the twenty-thirty year olds I know wearing any of those designs (But of course, we all have our own social group...so perhaps another social group my age might LOVE these designs!)
