My friends sister used to work for COACH and her discount was 50% off and then she would get free bags when she would hit certain numbers for each quarter or something along those lines. I just know that everytime I turned around she was being gifted a COACH!

I used to work for COACH, so I'll give it up. I don't care! LOL.
Its 50% discount on full priced items in the store. You get the "deletes" which are things being sent to the outlet for 65% off. At the outlet you get the same, which is the 65% off original price.
The discount is pretty good, but the working conditions aren't the greatest. SO many rules, and then the one that I worked at always had us "on call" instead of just scheduling you for the evening, you'd have to call in 2 hours prior to your shift to see if you had to work that night.
The dress code, year round is black sweaters, black or khaki pants, and a white collared shirt. Did I mention BLACK SWEATER in the summer? Yeah. Seemed pretty stupid to us too.

This is all true about the discounts, dress codes, rules, etc. I dont mind the On-calls..they are tough when it is nice outside, but you do have the job to work not play right?

We dont get "free" bags. We get "Coach bucks" to be able to put towards a bag we want to buy. So if we hit our monthly goals (ie: we get $50.00 for a part time employee) then we get that towards the purchase of a bag. We are never given anything for "free". Im not complining im saying it is money that goes toward a purchase of your choice.

Oh and we dont get to buy anything we want we have a certain amount of things we can purchase a year. An "Alotment" (ie: 7 bags a year, 7 wallets, a year, 7 keyfobs a year, etc...)

The commission must be really good?... I feel bombarded with help from every angle when I browse at my local boutique... I'd love to be able to look without the pressure sometimes, kwim?

i really don't understand the big secret on their discount..... this gets asked a lot... there are serveral coach SA's on here... yet we can never get a straight answer..... ugh......

No body would ever think to ask you about your salary or benefits because it is not polite and rude right?? Well I feel the same goes about an employees discount. Its rude to ask that and makes the employees feel uncomfortable.

I think that the Coach Corp. would frown on making that info generally publicly known. I think it's fair to assume that while Coach is willing to give employees a good discount (esp. because it would look bad for Coach employees not to be using the product), that they are not willing to lose money on the items they sell employees. So my assumption would be that the profit margins on everything in the store are easily more than 50-65% of the full price. (I already assumed this based on the prices at the outlets.) This might make some customers a little less willing to pay full price for bag (which is the last thing that Coach Corp wants!).

ITA. I think the usual markup for any beauty items is at leat 50%. My sister is a beautician and the standard markup at a beauty shop is 50% - so the retail price is twice what she pays to buy the stuff. She lets me buy really expensive shampoos, makeup, etc. from her for her cost. And she's just the final retail location, there have to be markups for other people before the products even get to her shop.

We don't work off commision. We just get in trouble from the managers if we DON'T "bombard" you ASAP when you enter the store and help you.

Do you guys know what the best way to apply for a job with a new outlet opening in my area? Do they ususally take boutique transfer employees? Should I talk to the coach CS and see?

A new one opened in March in my area. The job opening was posted on the outlet company website. It said for which positions they were hiring, interview dates, etc. I don't think they take only boutique transfer employees. I know some staff transferred from another outlet. I have never applied, but I bet someone else on here could give more info.
