Coach doesn’t want to encourage your business

Honestly, I don't think her manager or people at the corporate office at Jax would be very pleased that this SA spoke to you like that. By the looks of some of the new things coming out in the Fall, it does appear that Coach is wanting to attract the type of customer that the SA spoke of but I truly believe that they still care about all of their customers.
Some people just have no tact and shouldn't work with people. I'm sorry this happened to you lizmil. I wouldn't have bought anything from her either; I hope Coach SA's work on commission and she lost money over that!!

I'm 51 and I actually like quite a few of the new bags that I saw that are due in the Fall! If I "tarnish" the Coach "image" by buying and carrying one, oh well, LOL.

Just to clear a few things up, PCE's have nothing to do with age, in fact coach has no way of knowing your age. You get them based on your purchase history at FP stores. Second coach is trying to move into a new bracket of luxury, and they are trying to appeal to many new customers, I don't think they would mind losing a few customers who only spend the minimum on fabric bags once a year. I don't think the SA really meant what she said as a personal attack on you, and it probably came out wrong. But like most brands coach is trying to expand and appeal to a higher class too. Regardless I'm sorry your last shopping experience wasn't as fabulous as it should have been.

^ Well I don't only purchase fabric bags, so I don't know. They have put driver license info in their system on some occasions, so i think they can tell your age. A credit check or other info businesses can easily get their hands on gives that information.

Read the article in the link on Post #45. I'm sure Coach knows their customers ages (or age range) and a lot of other data (income bracket, education level, etc.). There are companies that make a lot of money selling this data. Do you get those notices from some companies saying that they do not sell your information? That's because there are plenty out there that do sell it.

I'm sure Coach's marketing department employs statisticians who do plenty of data mining to figure out who is buying their products. If you don't know your customer, how do you market to them..........how do you know where to run your ads, etc. Most big companies do this........even though I think it's a stupid idea to market to one age group at the sake of alienating another because the goal should be to maximize profit. I'm sure Coach uses many other factors in their marketing strategy but I'm certain Coach knows how old I am..........and for the record I'm 49 and dang proud to turn 50 later this year!

i never bought any bags FP, none, in fact the only items i ever bought FP are small things like fabric wristlet for a git or a key fob. i once bought a necklace with 30%, that is it and i still get PCE all the time. i am 48.

Wow...I dont know what to say. Maybe thats why I havent gotten the latest one. I had a recent birthday and am 49 lol. It's fine though.

Don't blame yourself for one second. I am in that so-called target group myself and haven't received a single PCE in literally months. Also Coach always manages to lose my email from their system somehow.

I asked an SA about that when I went to pick up a bag from repairs and to inquire about why I haven't been getting PCEs. Her answer about PCE was the same -- determined randomly by corporate. As for losing my email, apparently it "disappears" if you haven't shopped FP for a long time. Needless to say, I thought that was pure BS and will probably continue not shopping FP for a very long while. My wallet will be happier for it anyway.

Honestly, the most attractive quality in a woman is her confidence, regardless of age, weight, or personal style. Don't let anyone diminish that ever.

As for OP, I am very sorry you got such a snotty response. IMO Coach is shooting themselves in the foot if they only want to target my age group. Most of us don't have the means to be able to spend on purses and accessories the amounts Coach likes to charge. So good luck to them if they want to do that.

I feel your pain, OP. I never seem to get much help from Coach, whether it be via phone, chat, store, etc. I've spent 1000+ on Coach in not even a year, it should not matter what age you are.. money is money! Take it or leave it Coach!

+1 for this. All the fabulous customer service I hear about on this forum has been nonexistent for me.

When my UV duffle started having corner wear after less than 2 months, I was told it was normal. When the same thing happened to my $300 small saff Sadie after less than ONE month, I was again told it was normal. See a pattern here? That was the last bag I ever purchased from FP and honestly there's nothing luring me back now.

I know other brands like MK are notorious for poor customer service, but really, coming from Coach I don't think I'll notice a difference.

+1, you go, Girl, dropping that wisdom! :D

Coach really has been changing over the past few years. I've been collecting Coach items since I was 19. I'm still in their target range at 26 years old, but I've got to say that their current line of bags doesn't appeal to me. I'm sorry to say that their bags are a little more "business like" and less casual than I like. I have a collection of leather bags that are cute, casual, and strong enough to have taken a beating for many years. Where is that quality now? Gone by the wayside. I'm patiently waiting for Coach to get back into shape.

Thanks all, sorry as I am to say it, Coach's behavior does seem to support this SAs comment. For some silly reason, I am still fascinated with a couple of bags: the Borough and the stripe highrise revealed here on the forum.

I have an older Bonnie crossbody I am going to bring out of my collection. It's similar in shape to the highrise and I think will fill the need. So I won't be buying either, at least for a while.

Of course I did not get the PCE this time, big surprise. The phone call from the FP SA who always promises to call hasn't materialized either. I almost broke down yesterday to call and see if she would extend it on the highrise, because there seems to be some question if it can be used on that bag. I already know it doesn't work on the Borough.

Several members here on the board have offered their PCEs that they are not going to use to me, but from what I have heard, they cannot be transferred anymore. I really appreciate those offers, such a sign of "solidarity" buoyed my spirits. Frankly it seems like too much work...borrow someone's PCE, beg to be able to use it and see if it applies to the item one wants. Just so I can spend my money at a retailer that doesn't want it or my business.

I have enough of a Coach collection for three people, so each time I get the urge to buy something, I'll shop my closet. If I find a few NWT items with receipt I will slowly return those.

I'm still going to be on the forum to see what Coach comes up with, but I will part with my money even less than I do now.

I remember the days (not so long ago) I would go to the outlet and come with four or five items. Now I usually walk out empty handed. If I am the typical "long-term" older buyer, is it any wonder the balance sheet is going down?

Geez what a Debbie Downer! LOL Happy Sunday all!

EDIT: I really hope someone with pull at Coach sees this thread. There are an awful lot of us 40, 50 and 60 somethings with money to spend.

Based on the anecdotal evidence just on this thread, it's clear that receiving PCEs is not based solely on your buying history at FP stores. It is also based on other info metrics based on other purchase patterns outside Coach that Coach buys from other websites/data mining companies. I would say yes, Coach absolutely (thinks they) knows your age, the websites/companies you buy from, and maybe even your google searches from the past few years. All of that information is out there. Do not underestimate the amount of information we as consumers leave for Google, Amazon, Coach, Nordstrom, etc. to sell to outside companies.

That said, I am a huge online shopper and frequent FP shopper. I have received every single PCE in the past 4 years. And I am definitely not in my 20s.

It's too bad PCEs cannot be transferred. I would gladly give you mine, too. They really go to waste on me as someone close to me works for the company so I can get way better discounts any day of the year. Surprisingly, even the prospect of saving 50% or more on a bag still doesn't tempt me enough 95% of the time to give them my money.

People share them all the time.
