Hi All,

Thank you for reading my thread, finally able to create one. Well I brought a genuine Oak Roxy on ebay a few months ago along with a chocolate not so used bag.

The Oak has very grubby ultra soft straps which I am not too keen on and was wondering if anyone knows of a good product and get it like new or new as? Or can Mulberry replace the straps at a price as I have a stud missing on it also I need repairing.

Is it normal for the flaps to go all soft and the pocket leather hand lower? Can anything be done to add structure again? I have already tried cardboard but its starting to fall out.

The whole bag could so with TLC any suggestions on product, its darwin. I dont fancy bidding on ebay anytime soon for another Oak Roxy so need to stick with this one but how are the new NVT oaks like for reference?

Thank you in advance for your help.

Laura

Lol I meant post not thread. Thanks xx

Here is a tip to remove fresh ballpoint stains: take a piece of tape (scotch bright), put it over the stain and pull the tape off. Repeat several times. Afterwards: rub the leather with your fingers/dustbag.

hi all, sorry if I'm missing the post, but I can't seem to find any advice on removing existing ball point pen stains. I bought a fuschia mini Mabel from ebay and there's a small blue ballpoint stain on it  it's not too noticeable as it's on the back corner of the bag, but I don't like to think that my bag has a pen mark on it. any advice on how I can remove this? :shrugs::sad:

hi, I received my first ever mulberry in the post today, it is the pheasant green daria hobo.
Should I spray this with the collonil waterstop spray? And does anyone know if the spray will affect the colour of the bag, i'm totally in love with the colour and don't want to change it in any way, but obviously wouldn't want it to get damaged in the rain.

As some of you may know from my recent reveal thread I've just purchased a Conker SBS and a vintage '05 Apple Darwin Roxy.

Now I need guidance on how to care for both seeing as I like to baby my things and keep them in shape. I have some Collonil spray but they only had one kind at John Lewis when I bought it for my SBS. I was told it should be fine - but do I need a specific kind for the large grain Nappa leather of my SBS and a different kind for the Darwin?

My Roxy is in pretty good condition considering she's quite an old lady but I would like to give her a general spruce up, and hopefully reduce/remove a couple of marks she has. Any advice on which nourishing cream would be good for a general spruce up to the leather (hopefully one that could also be used for my SBS) and ways to maybe tackle her marks would be much appreciated.

Here is an example of one of the marks (the one that most bothers me - at least it's on her underside!)

I use the Collonil spray on my SBS, i sprayed her 3 times before first use, and wil reapply regularly.
You can use the spray for your Roxy too, but I also like to use the Collonil gel, which really feeds the leather and when you buff tit a bit, the leather becomes shiny and so beautiful. I don't know if the gel will erase the stains your Roxy has, mine is a chocolate one and does not stain easily.

I buy the spray and gel from Amazon or evilbay, cheaper than from the HS.

I use good old fashioned Brasso for metal polish.
Can be used on copper, messing, tin, chrom.
Just some before and after pics:
Here is Mississippi Bays with the untreated lock, and some pics of the freshly polished lock:

Absolutely wonderful advice! I never thought of this... I have just purchased a lovely preloved pink bayswater and noticed the hardware was slightly duller, I know exactly how to fix that now! You star! Love this thread! <3

thought I'd share this with everyone since I've used it on two bags (My medium off white Gaucho before it got sold and on my Mulberry mini Mabel in fuschia) and it's worked wonders! The Gaucho basically had hardware marks on the leather and the mini Mulberry had an existing pen mark on it since I got in in excellent pre-owned condition. The marks from the hardware rubbing against the leather came off no problems using this product, give it a quick wipe and it's disappeared! No change in the colour of the leather either! The pen mark on my Mulberry took a bit of time, again no change in the colour of the leather where it was applied, but basically apply the cream and scratch at it with your fingernail on the cloth (I used a soft ply tissue) and it's already gotten lighter! I think I'll need to clean the pen mark again to remove it completely, but just thought I'd share it with other people who are looking for a good leather cleaner!

The pen mark on my Mulberry is already a shade lighter than the original strong blue colour it used to be, I'll try to remember to take a photo of it as it is now (after 2 applications of the cream - to be honest, I think if you knew to lightly scratch at it with your fingernail with the cloth between your nail and the leather, it probably wouldn't need 2 applications) and the final result so you can see the effect it has had on my bag ;)

Introducing the Boston Leather Cream! Boston is (apparently) a reputable company for providing high quality products for shoe care since 1911. I went to a shoe shop asking for a leather cleaner to remove a pen mark and was advised by the SA that this would be the best one to go for. Don't worry, I have checked and it is suitable for use on leather handbags as well as shoes!

I am in the UK and got it from my local Schuh store for £3.50, you don't even need very much, a 5p sized dollop is more than enough to clean 2 hardware marks on one bag and the first attempt on a pen mark on another! If you're in the US, you can order it from this website:

http://www.2bigfeet.com/bos_10103614.php

searching for it on Google doesn't bring up many good results (I got links to some sites that sold Boston shoe care products, but not this one specifically) and I can't say whether or not the pump leather cream version is as effective, but in case people are wondering specifically which one I used, here's a photo of the product (I was recommended the squeezy bottle):

I was wondering if anybody would be willing to post a picture of a really wrecked Oak Darwin/NVT bag? I'm debating saving up to buy an Oak Bayswater, but I live in a rainy place. While I don't mind Colonilling it to death, I will probably be somewhat careless with it aside from that, and I'd like to see what the worst-case scenario looks like. I like the aged leather look, but on the other hand, if I'm going to drop the money, I want something that will also look nice enough from time to time.

just to ask, when you are asking members to post a picture of 'a really wrecked Oak Darwin/NVT', do you mean one that's been looked after but has been owned for a long period of time, or one that has been out in the rain a lot with/without leather care? I think you'd be hard pressed to find anyone who would take their bags out when it's raining really heavily. Since you end up spending so much money buying a bag, I wouldn't feel comfortable letting it get soaked and would take extra care to consider carefully which bag would be more suitable for the weather.

I can't seem to find the website anymore, but a previous post from another member suggested the use of a particular waterproof bag to protect your designer bags when you're out in undesirable weather which could ruin the leather of your bag. It's somewhat similar to the reusable foldable shopping bags that you can easily buy. I would suggest buying one of those to protect your bag when you're out in the rain and you can easily (and discreetly) store that away inside your Mulberry when you're indoors ;)

What I am asking for is does anyone have an Oak bag in the above-mentioned leathers who has experienced water-spotting or water stains, and who would be willing to post a picture? I'm trying to decide if I can live with a bag that will probably eventually get those in my climate.

As far as bringing another bag for my bag, yes, that is a good solution. Probably one that I wouldn't use, hence my desire to see what actual water damage looks like in Oak leather. Maybe water spots will fit in just fine as the leather gets a distressed look to it anyway.

In a related question--do the Chocolate and Black NVT/Darwin leathers hide the water spots better, being darker leather? Do they show somewhat, or not at all?

I'm absolutely in love with the Oak color, but I'm not sure how "distressed" I want the leather to look vs. the price paid. Which is why I love my dark-colored Balenciagas, as they can get soaked in the rain with absolutely no consequences.

Questions! Due to certain reasons, I am now in China for holiday and I realise they sell authentic collonil products way cheaper than most places in Asia. However, I could not find the leather gel, instead I bought the colourless Water-Colours Cream. It is gonna work wonder like the leather gel would be my question. Anyone with experience with the colourless Water-Colours Cream mind to update me the outcome?

Does anyone know how to clean the suede inside to my bag...it's a bit grubby and id like to try and freshen it up? :) thank you!!

I'm not sure if this would work on the inside of your bag, but to clean suede, you can get this rubber block and suede brush with soft bristles. What you normally do is rub the uneven rubber block (kind of uneven like the sole of rubber boots) to dislodge most of the dirt and you can use the brush to remove it from the 'hairs' of the suede ;) here's a link to how you can clean your suede inner lining:

I'm not sure about the cream you bought, but I use the Heavy Duty Waterproof Spray and it's been working really well! It's been raining lightly and because the trim of my Dior Panarea is leather, I've sprayed it on there. It was a bit sticky at first, but as intsructed on the bottle, I polished it because it's smooth leather, and I don't even notice it was even sprayed!
