hi - yes the info is from the H store i purchased from - its reletivly new from what they said that you dont need cites for ostrich -

im in the uk - but am hoping to take it to europe and the states in the next few months...........

perlarare -thanks for your info i was hoping you would chime in being an ostrich lover!

so, has anyone else had any experiences they can share travelling with any exotic?? as its a pale colour id travel with the ostrich(s i can wear it with summer clothes) but am waiting for croc - i cant see me bothering to travel with any other exoctic i think ill keep it to the kelly ostrich and normal leathers to avoid any probs.............. i never find customs look at my (other branded) bags - i get my carry on searched often but they say its random - i think they like to have a nose lol!!!

That is true.

And more recently, Hermes has released a new "exemption of Cites " document, specifying that the invoice is the only necessary evidence that the bag matches all Cites requirements (this piece of paper is valid for tourists only, and for max 2 pieces of specie listed by Cites)

I traveled all over Europe with my Saffron Ostrich Kelly, to my knowledge it does not need cities since Ostrich is not on any endangered list I am aware of. There easily farmed , and there are lots of farms as ostrich meat is sought after due to its low fat content.

In fact I might buy a couple of fertile eggs and shove them in my incubators

I would check the cities website to maybe make yourself confident its these countries that you need to look into if you are visiting
(only populations of Algeria, Burkina Faso, Cameroon, the Central African Republic, Chad, Mali, Mauritania, Morocco, the Niger, Nigeria, Senegal and the Sudan) (29/07/

Don't believe there is a problem traveling within Europe with ostrich.

However, endangered species skins there could be a problem not sure what else is

considered endangered species alligator/croc not sure about lizard.. if your

passport is US bringing an exotic without a receipt could be a problem..COULD BE

when you say they still give the cites - is this info as recent as in the last two weeks?? my ostrich kelly came with no cites - it was purchased from a H boutique - I know they used to and thats when i started asking for it! i was told they will get it and that i need it about 2 weeks back, but late today I was informed that ostrich no longer needs it and that it is a new regulation

i only have a uk passport - seems usa is stricter than europe perhaps with the customs etc, im thinking ill be fine going to monaco in a few months with it but im holding off making a decision about the usa travels until I hear more - im fairly confident as this came from H plus other owners of ostrich havent had a prob but better safe than sorry - its interesting that no-one has yet reported that their cites was checked or they had a problem, maybe its all bark and no bite customs have bigger fish to fry than handbags?????????

I would not risk travelling out of the us or back without the original cites. Cites covers most countries and they can take the bag. In the us they still give cites for ostrich at h.

Have noticed that Hermes cites certificates are very basic compared to say Chanel. Has anyone ever had any problems when travelling?
I do worry that as they do not have any information that relates to the item specifically ie colour description that there could be a potential problem outside Europe.
:smile1:

I have never taken my Hermes bags out of the country. I just don't feel comfortable or safe doing so even with the cites.

hotsht - i was informed today that lizard does require cites to travel.........

im yet to buy anything major in lizard though lol.............give me the chance!!!

When I bought my lizard agenda from FSH last year, I was told that there wasn't any need for CITES and the invoice would suffice. And I was also told that Hermes no longer issues CITES for exotics, since the invoice is good enough for customs.

HOWEVER, when I was in George V later and inquired about a croc, the SA told me that she would need a few days to prepare CITES if I wanted the item.

So... I don't know if this policy varies from store to store or what. And I'm not sure if the agenda gets a free pass because it's small. (The croc was a bag, so maybe it doesn't get the same free pass?)

Have you PMed Sakara54?.......... Sakara54 and her lovely mum travel quite extensively with their lvoely exotic bags..............

Hahaha You are too kind!!! Well, I was totally paranoid when I first carried croc birkin to Japan (I couldn't remember where was my cites document) and I didn't bring my cites with me and I heard that Japanese customs were totally strict! But no one even mentioned about my bag hahaha:p. I think mostly for Asian countries : Thailand, Japan, Hong Kong, South Korea are not strict about exotic stuffs. However, wherever you go when you travel to overseas, you should bring cites with you, just in case, especially EU.

CITES is not required if you travel with the bag as a personal effect. It is only needed if you sell overseas to prove that you're not selling a prohibited item (endangered species). That's the purpose of CITES.

In some places, eg. H Ginza, they don't provide it if you bought an exotic. That's the practice at FSH recently as well.
