Hi ladies… I'm very tempted to buy a lizard kelly from a reputable reseller in UK, it has the receipt but NO Cites, I don't think it's a wise move right? Needing some support here to stay firm lol
I own bags that don't have CITES, but I only carry them between the US and France, where that is fine. If the UK permits the import and export of lizard as personal items, then you only have to worry about the legalities of where you take the bag. If you are planning on mainly using in the UK, and the price is good, I wouldn't stress too much.

Sorry - I know I'm supposed to talk you out of it 🤣 but I do think folks stress too much, and also don't realize that even if you have a CITES certificate, if you import something into a place where it's forbidden, you are STILL at risk. The CITES only attests to the legality of the skin that was sourced - it does not mean the item can go anywhere.

Can you please share any info to verify?
I’ve received cite certificates on my croc bags/pegasus, however, I was told lizards don’t get issued cites.
Should I not bring the lizards out of US while traveling since I wasn’t given cites on these items purchases from boutique?
TIA.

Anything with lizard would be issued cites. I think it's ostrich that doesn't need it.

Can a cites be rejected by customs because the date of issue is left blank on the cites? My SA is telling me that they don’t put a date of issue or anything so it can always stay valid. Does anyone here have knowledge about how true this is?

This is sort of interesting because it sounds like at one point ostrich did require it. So would that mean that any bag that was produced while it was required would still need the paperwork? are they really checking for that?
Bags produced during that period have their own CITES which was provided at purchase. Since it's no longer on the list, I do not think customs would ask to see but personally, I have not been stopped or asked for any paperwork regarding my bags. I tend to travel quite a bit with my Ostrich bags and leave the other pieces which require CITES at home anyway, to avoid unnecessary delays.

I would like to know if I want to bring my croc Birkin to SPA, do I need the CITES?
This bag was 2005 and I don't think I keep the CITES that long. But my bag needs SPA.

It depends where your bag is going for the spa. If the spa is domestic in your country then you don’t need it. If they have to send your bag overseas, then you will need the CITES.

You can always request another CITES from your SA. It may take awhile to locate (perhaps up to a year) if the record of the CITES wasn’t digitally recorded at the time of production.

Can you request one even for items purchased pre-loved/resale? Or would that process only apply to instances where you are the original owner of the exotic?
Yes you can request it no matter what as long as it’s an authentic H bag. However I would imagine they wouldn’t go through the trouble unless you’re an established client and have a good SA relationship. It can be a hassle if it’s not electronically saved.

Where dear? I asked three stores and they said that if you lose CITES in the first two years after buying a bag that has CITES they can look up on the computer and find the import number connected to that bag, but that they can’t give you a copy of the CITES. After two years, they can’t do anything.

What did they tell you? Thanks ❤️

We are planning to visit Thailand in the next months and we have some sandals in Himalayan leather and were wondering if we need to have the actual cites with us or a soft copy would be fine?

Question for anyone who has ever traveled with an exotic from Brazil to the U.S.--did this require a CITES? It's an alligator bag I am interested in purchasing secondhand and bringing back to the U.S., but it does not have a CITES. Based on what I have read about the laws (under chapter 4, exception III, here: https://faolex.fao.org/docs/pdf/bra112515.pdf), CITES is not required for personal items. For my peace of mind, I wondered if anyone can confirm CITES is not needed for this. Thank you so much.
