BlindGossip Its easy to criticize an out-of-control celebrity. Their wild behavior is practically a spectator sport. But sometimes there is more going on than meets the eye. In the case of this celebrity, its not just fame or narcissism or too much money. Its mental illness. Bipolar disorder, to be more specific.
When hes on his meds, he is somewhat in control. But then he stops taking them, and starts self-medicating the highs with alcohol, and the lows with cocaine. Then it all spirals out of control and everything gets mixed together, and he becomes extremely manic and delusional. Hell fight both the upcoming 5150 and the conservatorship, but they are going to happen.

I don't know who else it could be but Charlie.
I'm stilling marveling at the fact that Carlos Estevez had the nerves to call someone out on a professional name change...
While the rest of Hollywood offered up their two-cents about Charlie Sheen's ongoing crazy tour and the demise of Two and a Half Men, we haven't heard a word from his onscreen brother, Jon Cryer.
Until now.
Although Cryer's rep told E! News yesteday that the Emmy winner wouldn't have an official comment, Sheen's costar turned to his Twitter, and finally spilled his reaction to this big mess, in 140 characters or less:
"It's too sad! Sorry guys, that you must hear so bad news! I'm also shocked!"
Cryer was letting his followers in on the news that "Two and a [h]alf men is axed!" since the show won't be taping the final four episodes of the season following Sheen's attacks on the Men brain trust.
In fact, the long-term viability of TV's No. 1 comedy is in doubt after Sheen announced during a radio interview Friday that he wasn't planning on returning for a ninth season in the fall as long as the show's production team remained intact. Not that he'd be invited back considering he labeled Men a "pukefest" and his bosses "Nazis."
What's even sadder is the hopeful tweet Cryer posted less than a week ago: "Hey guys! Great news! In two weeks, the new shootings start for Two and a Half Men! Cause Charlie is feeling better!"
Sorry, false alarm.
I haven't changed my mind on him (that he won't stop until the unthinkable happens to him), but I will say that I didn't realize he was BP. For whatever reason, if he is BP and off meds, it adds another layer to the sadness of what's going on with him, and it's as you said--it's now larger than just an addiction (not to make light of addictions, for obvious reasons). When all of his sound bites were being released yesterday, my office mates were on various site reading them aloud to the room at large. It was then that I realized that something was seriously, seriously wrong. I mean, I knew something was wrong long before that, but it was the quotes (each one crazier than the last) that made me start rethinking what was truly going on with him, that it couldn't just be that he thinks he's OK with smoking crack and sniffing coke.I have to agree with LADC_chick.
But I also have to agree that this is larger than substance abuse. And while I don't want to absolve Sheen of responsibility, sometimes it takes hitting rock bottom before a person with mental illness (and/or substance abuse) realizes how much they need help or how much they need to stay on their meds. I've known wonderful people whose meds made them feel different enough that they really, honestly thought it was a good idea to stop them. In their minds, not even the dr.s could know how they felt or what they were going through. And it wasn't until their lives spiralled out of control that they finally understood that while they may have needed to change or tweak meds, they HAD to stay on them. Fortunately for my friends, the spiral didn't end in death, but it easily could have.
I guess what I am saying is that while Sheen is saying horrible, spiteful things and making horrible decisions. When/if he recovers, he might want to curl up in a ball and die over the shame of his illness controlling him to that degree. That doesn't mean that he should keep his show or that people should hire him out of pity or anything, just that he will hopefully be able to look back on this and hang his head in shame. His behaviour isn't that of a sane individual, and I am not sure he has the power to stop himself right now. Unfortunately, it seems he has plenty of people enabling him (like the women in the Bahamas with him).
It was from that blind gossip link above...also, Dr. Drew chimed in yesterday (at least I think it was yesterday) stating he felt Charlie was in a state of mania when giving that radio interview.Oh, OK. Where'd that come from then?
Thanks! I read the blind item, too, and promptly forgot that the comments regarding Charlie Sheen were in reference to that. I do agree with Dr. Drew, though, that something was off about all the stuff that Sheen was saying. It could have been a state of mania, but no one really knows. It was from that blind gossip link above...also, Dr. Drew chimed in yesterday (at least I think it was yesterday) stating he felt Charlie was in a state of mania when giving that radio interview.
