LOS ANGELES – Charlie Sheen was back in rehab Friday and production of his hit CBS sitcom "Two and a Half Men" was on hold, one day after a 911 caller said the actor was intoxicated and in pain.

According to a person familiar with the emergency call placed Thursday, one of Sheen's neighbors told a 911 operator that the actor was "intoxicated" and complaining of abdominal and chest pains.

The person familiar with the call, who was not authorized to publicly discuss details, spoke Friday on condition of anonymity. Copies of the call probably won't be ready for release by the Los Angeles Fire Department until Monday, a department spokesman said.

Sheen, 45, was taken to a Los Angeles area hospital and was there until around midnight Thursday, said his publicist, Stan Rosenfield, who cited the actor's history of hernia problems.

Rosenfield said Friday that Sheen was in rehab, but he did not say why.

"Charlie Sheen has voluntarily entered an undisclosed rehabilitation center today," the spokesman said. "He is most grateful to all who have expressed their concern."

The terse statement noted that no additional information will be provided and asked that Sheen's privacy be respected.

CBS, production company Warner Bros. Television and executive producer Chuck Lorre said in a joint statement that Sheen's rehab has prompted a halt on production of "Two and a Half Men."

"We are profoundly concerned for his health and well-being, and support his decision," the companies and Lorre said.

Sixteen of the show's 24-episode order have been taped, with 14 aired so far.

The latest fallout from Sheen's chaotic life came two weeks after CBS' top entertainment executive said the actor's off-camera actions haven't affected his work as the star of TV's most popular comedy, the centerpiece of CBS' Monday comedy lineup.

Sheen's headline-making behavior has included a wild night that left a New York hotel room in shambles and sent him to a hospital, and a guilty plea last summer to assaulting his wife in Aspen, Colo. Sheen filled gossip pages again this month by spending a weekend partying in Las Vegas.

His latest hospitalization was his third in as many months. It came after a 911 call made on Sheen's behalf by neighbor Dr. Paul Nassif. The plastic and reconstructive surgeon, along with his wife, Adrienne Maloof-Nassif, are in the reality show "The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills."

"We are so glad that Charlie made the decision to seek the assistance of a rehabilitation center today," Nassif and his wife said in a statement. "This is something that his friends and family have pushed for, and we wish him all the love and support he will need in the coming days."

Last February, Sheen entered rehab for an unspecified problem, forcing his sitcom to temporarily suspend production.

Earlier this month, CBS Entertainment President Nina Tassler was asked about Sheen at a news conference with TV reporters.

"We have a high level of concern. How can we not?" she said, adding the situation can't be viewed simplistically. The actor does his job on "Two and a Half Men" reliably well, she said.

When a questioner suggested a person in a different line of work would be fired for involvement in similar incidents, Tassler replied, "What do you get fired for? Going to work and doing your job?"

Sheen's Monday night program has increased its audience by 2 percent over last season, the Nielsen Co. said. He signed a new two-year contract at the end of last season that makes him one of the highest-paid actors on prime-time television.

According to Kacey Jordan, Charlie Sheen checked into rehab not a moment too soon.

"He said, 'I bet I can outdrink you,'" Jordan tells E! News in an exclusive interview airing Monday, describing her first impression of Sheen during an alleged 36-hour party binge that led up to his hospitalization Thursday morning.

Jordan says that she witnessed Sheen drinking and smoking cocaine for hours, after which they had "quick" sex and he cut her a check for $30,000. Which she immediately deposited, despite the fact, she said, that she had reservations about leaving him alone.

Sounds like pretty risqué behavior, but Sheen is wondering what the fuss is all about.

"I'm fine," he wrote in a text to RadarOnline, according to the site. "People don't seem to get it.... Guy can't have a great time and do his job also?"

Hold that thought.

Jordan, who describes Sheen as "a very nice and polite guy," tells E! that he for the most part acted "normal" even while high because, in her opinion, he's so used to being in that state. The adult-film actress also says Sheen told her he has "porcelain teeth" after drug use caused too much wear and tear on his real teeth.

Sheen told Jordan, she says, that, with her blonde hair, she was "the missing puzzle piece" of the "porn family" he was looking to move into a $20 million home. He added that there were other women at his house when she first arrived, but that he was so enamored with her, the others eventually took off in a jealous huff.

At around 3 a.m. on Thursday, Jordan says, one of the other, er, ladies sideswiped his parked car while attempting to leave the house, sending Sheen into a fit she thought would turn into "another Plaza Hotel," referring to the night Sheen was hospitalized in New York after an alleged freakout in his hotel room that his rep initially classified as a severe allergic reaction.

"He was punching walls" and "yelling in outrage" at 3 a.m., Jordan says, until the other driver calmed him down.

Jordan says that she immediately left to cash the $30,000 check Sheen had given her, though she claims she was afraid to leave him alone, fearing it would be the last time she ever saw him alive.

I don't give either any more leniency that the other. Although, I am happy to NOT hear about Charlie driving like LiLo does when under the influence. Both are addicts, both need serious help. I won't be surprised when breaking news on either of their deaths happens.

And this is why Charlie Sheen will never stop doing drugs until the next high takes his life. He classifies what he does as having a great time and seems to think that everyone else is just uptight and trying to ruin his fun. He doesn't seem willing to change his mind set, and as such, he'll be out of rehab soon and back to making his millions that he'll then spend on more blow.

Excellent that she ran off to cash the check even though she thought he might die if left alone. And admitted to it. He really knows how to pick 'em. this is a hot terrible mess all 'round.

There are always people there to take advantage of someone in his situation. It's all part of the addiction. He will have to die before he wakes up and it will be too late. I know his family will always care and worry for him...it doesn't just go away. But even though drugs don't know financial/social classes (occurring through them all), he has more on his side to quit...that is what makes it so irritating. You can preach and be disgusted all you want (and I've always thought he was another d-bag) but until HE truly decides, it will never happen.

At this point, I think giving him help only enables him.

Charlie Sheen -- Rehab for Three Months

Charlie Sheen will be in rehab for the next three months, derailing the next eight episodes of "Two and a Half Men" ... and possibly leaving the show's crew SOL.

Sources connected with the show tell TMZ the crew is grumbling ... worried they will be the financial casualties of Charlie's problem. There are 300 people associated with the show, many of whom are nervous about not getting a paycheck.

Sources say when production was halted last February while Charlie was in rehab, the crew was "partially compensated."

We're told the studio hasn't decided what to do this time around -- whether the staff will be fully or partially compensated. A decision is expected soon.

That said ... everyone we've spoken with is supportive of Charlie and knows he needs to get better, which ultimately will be the best job security.

Here's what they should do: take his $2 million weekly salary and divide it amongst the crew!

Who thinks he will stay in rehab for 3 months? He needs a very structured long term rehab but it's a waste of time if he doesn't think he has a problem. Funny how he thinks everyone else sees it incorrectly, but he knows the truth. Denial, denial, denial..........

I do feel for those workers connected with the show and obviously his family. Collateral damage for any addict.

Charlie has been associated with hookers since Jesus was a baby. I have a hard time believing he was taken advantage of.

If he is dumb enough to write a check for 30k she'd be even dumber not to cash it.

His salary might not cover it...

'Two and a Half Men' Shutdown Could Cost CBS, Warner Bros. Millions

Up to $250 million in domestic syndication deals -- as well as millions more in ad revenue -- are in jeopardy as star Charlie Sheen heads back to rehab.

... I knew he was a cash cow but wow that's a lot of money. I guess that's why they all just played along and silently watched him self destruct.

Sorry, but Carlos is not going to stay in Rehabab that long. I give him 2 weeks, maybe 3 MAX and then he will check himself out.

ETA: Did you guys know he is younger than Emilio? I always thought he was older.
