Does it stand to reason that if bonded leather is being used successfully in seasonal bags that it would also be used in classic production? What is being used on the shoes? It's such a opportunity for the brand to promote excellence and 'Savoir Faire' that if quality materials were being used they would be talking about it. Savoir Faire is one expression Chanel uses to define itself.

Savior Faire is competence and experience, and a sense of propriety. Not luxury or excellence.
I certainly think that, while perhaps traditionally valued qualities may be allegedly lacking in Chanel’s usage of “inferior materials” (read:non-traditional leather), they continue to produce inspired designs that their customers appreciate-therein lies the craftsmanship.
You could view it as a modernization attempt- focus on durability of products, standardization of manufacturing processes, etc.

I see paying a premium for a bag that withstands acetone as a bonus, not a drawback.
Chanel 19’s are no less exclusive than any other model-in fact, I would be more impressed by someone who tosses their $XXXX(X) bag around without a second thought vs. someone who is obsessively coddling theirs.

Tl;dr: Use you bags. They’re accessories to highlight how fabulous you are! Share them with your adoring public. Ignore the haters-nobody’s perfect, but you’ve got a Chanel :coolio:

I feel like most of us have suspected it, genuine leather just doesn't peel and crack like bonded/pu leather do. Sad to see the direction that Chanel has headed to. I genuinely love some of their designs but all the quality issues really going to hold me back from purchasing any more bags from them.

I wonder what year they've started switching to a more environmental-friendly options for the hardware. I suspect they meant recycled silver & other metals? My most recent bags by Chanel is the urban spirit lambskin backpack (2016) and the heart belt bag (2022), haven't notice any tarnishing in hardware or peeling in the straps yet. :hrmm:
Can't comment on their hardware quality, so far I only encountered heavily oxidised metal from my c19, here's one of the oxidised underneath parts of the chain before it was sent to replace with a new one:

The issue with these is that you have no idea if these are actually fakes you are looking at.

Let’s wait and see!

I Love all of my bags, have never purchased seasonal styles and know that mine are the most beautiful leather inside out so.. I’ll enjoy these for now ❤️
I should make it clearer in my previous post that this Red app (chinese social media app is popular in China, parts of South East Asia, and America). There were many posts on the "PU leather" chain being replaced by posts on that app itself with comments from netizens across different countries sharing the price to replace the leather piece too. The post that i have extracted was on 23 Aug 2022, with 225 comments. Some users have mentioned:
  1. "Changed chain leather costed HKD1950".
  2. "Macau store charge 1000 (their currency)"
  3. "Went to KLCC to repair the leather chain".."long chain costed MYR 540, short chain costed 190, total cost MYR730".
Saw 3 different users from Singapore posted on this issue. One of the posts dated 15 Jan 2023 that she paid SGD425 to repair the shoulder strap. Another post back in 12 Aug 2022 mentioned she paid SGD 350 for gab backpack's leather chain repair.

Another post from user in Guangzhou on 30 April 2021 - she bought the bag in 2017 and experienced leather peeling issue.

There were so many posts about the leather strap issues in gab bag and backpacks. Highly doubt all of these posts were fake bags since there were many netizens complaining their bags bought in 2017, 2018, 2020 were experiencing leather straps issue and have to pay money to repair it (how ridiculous!!).
Exactly. How do we know these are actually authentic Chanel bags in those photos? A lot of fakes come from that same country. We all have got to start putting on our thinking caps more often and we’ve got to stop taking everything that we see on social media at face value, y’all !!

I second this. How can we take someone’s words on the internet as truth? Like another poster said, I would be shocked that an SA/employee would ever just tell customers this.

First thoughts that came to my mind was:

Why in the world would an SA tell a customer(s) that information?? :confused1: How would that ever benefit them? Doesn’t their entire livelihood depend on selling you more bags and other leather products, not giving out information that would deter them from making sales? Give us a name so that we can verify with Corporate ourselves ~ but of course, they will not volunteer to expose themselves, right

Why would that SA/employee risk losing their job just to satisfy the curiosity of a customer? Who then immediately goes spreading it on the internet for all, including Chanel, to see :wtf: They supposedly even said it was not to be discussed... so many holes, it doesn’t make sense. There is no actual proof. It is all Heresay.
How do I know whether these posts were legitimate? When people start to share about the cost of repairing the leather strap of their gab bag/ backpack. If all of the posts about their leather strap peeling were fake, then why do they feel disappointed to pay the additional cost out of their pockets to send for repair?

Anyways, these days, China's consumers are willing to spend their money on luxury goods due to various factors such as social media pressures, wanting to have 'face'/ status consciousness, etc. Understanding that growth has slowed down, but the demand will be still there.
Here are some of the links you can look through:

I fee like shoes are still leather. They’re my only Chanel items that actually smell like leather and one pair of booths from last year, as much as I love them, for completely dented in very light rain. Like literally drizzle. Left dent makes on my boots. So disappointing.

As for seasonal bonded bags - is that just seasonal styles, or seasonal colors of classics? Because my black mini square feels and smells more like leather than whatever my caramel one is. Which is part of why k use it less, I just assumed it was dry and needed conditioning but its one of the weirder lambskins I’ve touched

Just read about 10 pages here and as someone who's starting to build her Chanel collection, all these issues about quality are quite upsetting. I already have the Boy and a flap and I'm looking at adding the 19 and a trendy, but I think I should just go and stick with the heritage pieces like the flap. TBH, I also think that there's really something 'plasticky' about the seasonal bags.

And after reading those 10 pages, I think I got a bit paranoid haha! Do you think that Chanel still uses top grain leather for the CFs or have they been cutting corners on this one too?

I agree! After reading this thread and looking at the seasonal pieces which indeed looks quite plasticky, I am going to stick with the classics. But as they are a lot more expensive now, I have to think a lot before spending my $$$.

Same. With the crazy price increases and decreasing quality, I'm seriously contemplating whether I will still get a new flap or just try to find a Birkin offer instead.

Wow. Really??? How? Did he make a video about it?
He was outside a large strip mall that had a Chanel boutique. And his commentary probably feedback from people on his accounts was probably teasing him that maybe he pissed off Chanel. He didn't say or video if he actually went into the Chanel store. He probably would have been recognized.

Tanner Leatherstein has released another dissection video, now featuring vintage Chanel bag. It turns out that the interior has been finished with PU leather. I’m not that surprised because I saw vintage Chanel with peeling interior, but I used to question the authenticity of the piece. What do you guys think? Have you faced any peeling issues with your vintage bags?

I would love to know this too. I have a vintage WHITE 80s classic flap (bought second hand shop) it has peeling on the interior lipstick/card slot area and appears to be vinyl:PU, while the rest of bag leather. Typical for PU of the era, but in Chanel bags? Would love to know anyone else has this with vintage bags?

I'm currently in the market for my first big designer splurge. I really want to get the Chanel Classic Flap as it's such a timeless design; it also looks great and appropriate for my petite frame.

However, after browsing this forum for a while and reading articles (a lot of news articles are popping up on my Google feed because of my research into the company), I'm getting really frustrated.

1) I obviously think that the price increase is idiotic. If Chanel wants to carry a price increase, it would make more sense for them to increase it on the upcoming collection instead of the same existing bags. I went to the Toronto flagship a few weeks bag and there were a few special edition ones (those 'Price Upon Request' pieces) that were languishing in the closet. I mean, if they didn't sell for $X originally for a few years, any price increase doesn't make the same purse more attractive.

2) I don't know how many ladies here read the NYT article Inside the Delirious Rise of 'Superfake' Handbags but if there's a problem with Superfakes out there, then the quality issues thread that's currently on its 111th page doesn't help the brand. I would never wear a Superfake, but I can totally understand those who feel like the prices have increased and quality has substantially declined to the point that some feel that Superfake handbags are actually better made (check out some YT comparison videos).

3) Why is Chanel making bags with PU lining (as per Tanner Leatherstein's videos)? Like he says in the video, at that price point, Chanel should be able to easily line the interior with calf-skin or some other less expensive leather.

4) Why is there a quota for the Classic Flap? I'm genuinely serious about this question. Is it to deter resellers? I mean, resellers can just use their family or friends' profiles to buy more, or go to another place where they have no purchase history, or make a profile with an alternate name.

5) Why is Chanel marketing so heavily to influencers? I'm also genuinely curious about this. Do they want more sales? Obviously, they do. But do they have a certain 'Chanel girl' or 'Chanel woman' they have in mind as their perfect clientele? Isn't Coco Chanel all about being classy, some of these influencers will probably make Coco roll in her grave.

6) Can someone explain to me why Chanel stopped exotic skins? Is it for environmental reasons?
