Please keep us posted on what happens, I'm curious to know if this could actually be possible...

This can't be true. I mean Chanel keeps having price increases to make the brand more exclusive and then they sell Chanel bags at a discounted price at Costco?? I don't think so. This doesn't make any sense to me.

:tup:We are die-hard Costco shoppers. My DH bought my engagement diamond at the 2-time-only diamond event they had in San Diego in conjunction with GIA. 1.75 ct brilliant cut Internally flawless F color for $18K with paperwork and GIA appraisal and recently apprsd for $30K. We love love Costco.

Online at Costco.com we've purchased his Cartier Santos 18K gold and stainless steel watch as well as my Fendi B Bag in Black Patent (for $500 less than retail). Everything came with paperwork and everything was 100% authentic. The Fendi bag was the exact same one i wanted that came out one year previously. Since then I've also purchased a Prada tote as well as a Fendi Spy Bag (both from Costco.com).

Costco has contracts with high-end retailers who send them limited amounts of products that they have overstock inventory on. Similar to them sending out-of-season bags to their Outlet stores.

If you don't hesitate to purchase Chanel bags from Chanel Outlet stores, why would you hesitate with Costco? Especially with their awesome return policy?

buying from costco.com is just like buying from eluxury.com... the bags you buy are discounted because they are not "in season" anymore.

And regarding buying bags/jewelry next to frozen hot dogs.. man if the Gucci Outlet store started selling frozen hot dogs next to their discounted bags, I'd still shop there... especially if I get an extra discount for doing so!

Sure you don't get the "luxury" experience but isn't saving $500-$2,000 worth missing out on that "luxury" experience of buying it in a boutique?

Personally, I don't need that "luxury" experience with mean, jealous boutique SA's who make a quarter of what you make a year and can't afford what you're buying yet treat you like s--t!

P.S. Of course calling the 800 numbers for these high-end retailers won't get you anywhere.

First off, they have no idea what they're talking about. If you call Chanel's 800 number, they will transfer your call to one of a few boutiques they can transfer calls to so they don't know anything about their own fine jewelry merchandise. Then once your call is transferred, the boutique SA's also may not know which jewelry item you are talking about or how much it is or if it is available until after a long amount of "research"... what is surprising is that they don't even know what their own company sells!!!!

Secondly, since they don't know anything they will definitely tell you that it is "illegal".. why wouldn't they tell you that? Chanel Boutiques make money if you buy there and not at Outlet stores and certainly not at Costco. How many boutique SA's even know if Chanel has Outlet stores and how many Gucci boutique SA's will even tell you where to find Gucci Outlet stores?

And regarding calling up corporate? They have even less incentive to divulge their contractual business arrangements with places like Costco. Chanel doesn't want their brand's exclusivity to be marred. They will quietly enter contracts with Costco to sell a few pieces of overstock merchandise here or there but they will NEVER advertise that fact. Then everyone would try to wait for their local costco to sell a J12 rather than go to a chanel boutique and pay $2K more. A chanel boutique doesn't even want you to buy a J12 at Saks or NM and the SA's at chanel will never tell you that you could get discounts if you buy anywhere else.

I would gladly buy a J12 at Costco if I spot one. To me, it's the same as buying a J12 at BG, NM, or Saks.

^^Good for you, ChanelCamelia that you like Costco. However, it's not entirely correct that Chanel SAs cannot afford a Chanel bag.;) But, it's true, some SAs are mean.:p:nogood:

But, not all.

I've seen Burberry, Prada and Coach bags at the Costco I go to. And at one time on their website, I saw Marc Jacobs and Fendi Spy bags at a great discount. I just assumed because these are the brands that have outlet stores and designers that go on sale, that's probably why Costco have them too. The ones I saw looked real enough.

Chanel has outlet stores too. I only know of one that my cousin's friend went to. She actually planned her entire vacation around shopping there.

I didn't mean that all SA's are mean or that they all can't afford a chanel bag.

I meant Some are really mean and most of them can't afford the fine jewelry they sell to their customers yet still treat their customers like you-know-what.

My dh and I went to the Bev Hills boutique because he wanted to buy me the $25,000 camelia ring with diamonds on it. I wanted to see it irl to compare it to the ruby and pink saphires one because they're the same price. I couldn't decide on either one. The SA was soooo rude! she didn't bother answering my questions when I showed up there. I guess she assumed that I couldn't afford it. then when my husband showed up looking for me (I went in first because he had to park the car) they didn't let him in because they couldn't believe that he could be married to me (he's white and i'm asian). They could have asked me if that was my husband or could have opened the door and asked him if i was his wife! i had to stop and walk over and demand that they let him in because he WAS my husband!

Once they let him in, the SA kept pointing out "flaws" she saw in the rings I was interested in and acted like we didn't have any money unless we buy the $60K version of the diamond and pink saphire camelia ring.

Goodness gracious! do they expect everyone who enters the fine jewelry area to be rich celebrities? we're regular people (upper middle class) who saved up to buy something nice and we get treated like that??

suffice it to say, we left the bev hills chanel boutique. if they only want to cater to movie stars then we'll let them.. this saturday he's taking me to SCP in costa mesa instead... hopefully we will get better service!

I agree with hotmama2babyz&d, missisa, and chanelcamelia. I bought all my Chanel bags at the boutique as well but if I was lucky enough to find a Chanel bag at Costco that I love, I would not hesistate to purchase it just because it was not from the boutique. JMHO.
Just a thought: the major department stores such as Saks, Nordstrom, and Neiman Marcus have been practically giving away seasonal Chanel bags at 60-80% off. Why couldn't Costco give their paying members some discount on premium designer brands as well? It's not like the "buying by bulk" mentality applies here. My understanding is that it is only sold in certain locations and only occurs once every blue moon. I honestly do not believe they would risk their reputation on selling fakes especially when their return policy is super lenient and people can easily call them out on it if indeed they were selling fake bags.
FYI: I saw authentic Rolex watches being sold (in very limited quantities) in one of the Costco locations. Some LV bags as well (again, very limited-only saw this happen once)

chanelcamelia- sorry to hear about your horrible experience at the bev hills boutique. I hope you have a better experience at the SCP location. I don't know if you've checked it out, but the thread on recommended SAs might very helpful for you for your trip to Chanel SCP. The wonderful ladies here have been kind enough to share their favorite SAs. HTH
p.s. you have such as sweet dh. hope you find something you love =)

Re: Louis Vuitton sold at Costco

Hello All!

I sent photographs of the Costco Sologne and a letter to Louis Vuitton to get to the bottom of this Vuitton-Costco Wholesale connection.

I have been told by someone at Louis Vuitton Criminal Enforcement of North America, that this bag IS authentic! The Sologne was re-styled (Micro-Fiber Flap, Leather Embossed Tag) before it was discontinued in 2006.

It was also made clear that Costco does sell authentic Vuitton, but LVMH has no part in supplying the merchandise. LVMH and Costco do not and will not have an agreement to carry discounted merchandise in Costco Wholesale stores. Louis Vuitton frowns upon the sale of their merchandise at wholesale stores as it cheapens the appearance of the label, but Costco is not doing anything illegal by selling it.

A few direct quotes -

"Buying our items from any source other than a boutique or e-luxury.com is not recommended"

"I am not saying that a business such as Costco Wholesale does not have high standards, but Louis Vuitton strives to make your shopping experience is memorable"

"Even though the items that I have examined from Costco stores have all been authentic Louis Vuitton products, it does not mean that counterfeit goods do not slip into their systems from time to time. Unless you have control over the entire inventory process, As Louis Vuitton does - There is no way of knowing what happens during shipment, delivery and stocking"

As it was said, Costco is not doing anything illegal but if they were selling counterfeit bags, this would be a much different story!

Okay then, So Costco Vuitton is legit, in most instances, but you should still examine the bag carefully. I don't see myself buying Vuitton at Costco, but for those of you who do - I would love to hear about the experience!

Hope you are all very well and had yourselves and excellent holiday!

Thank you so much! I will check out those threads. I guess good SAs are like good car mechanics, once you find one, you stick with em! :smile1:
I will let my dh know that he is being complimented for spending money on me hehe. you are so nice!

If you're lucky enough to find a chanel bag/j12 at costco, my suggestion is buy it then bring it to a boutique and have them check it to make sure that it is real! With costco's return policy, you can always bring it back to them and let them know if (heaven fobid) it did turn out to be fake.

actually, on second thought... if you find a chanel bag/j12 watch.. DON'T buy it but call me instead and I'll buy it and find out if it is real... chances are it will probably be real and I will buy you flowers to thank you for saving me mucho dinero! hehe :yahoo:
