Chanel at Costco

I have to admit I am curious as to why several of you are so opposed to Chanel being sold at Costco, in the event it is 100% Authentic. I, like most of you, loathe fakes, but are we such bag snobs that seeing them at a slight discount & readily available (in extremely limited quanities) for the general public makes us upset??? I guess I don't get it? I see a girl in my city with an authentic Chanel rather seldomly & if I did see someone w/ an authentic bag that she happened to get for $300 less than its original price why do I care?? Are we afraid our bags (or we) we be less "Exclusive" or "high-end"? So for that reason we feel like calling all over hoping to have the items removed from the stores so other people can't buy them? WHY?? If you prefer the boutique experience, as I do...then great!! Shop there! Some people are very intimidated by the boutiques, but love Chanel (you can find multiple posts on this very subject on this forum) so why not allow another option? Why force people who are intimadated by the potential (and apparent) snobbery to buy off eBay where there is such a high risk for being ripped off & sold a fake.

I completely understand why anyone & everyone should & would be vehmently opposed to a legitamite retailer selling fake merchandise, however I am truly perplexed as to why some of you are violently opposed to the legitimate selling of authentic items...especially because if you do have a Costco near you, you would know they get about 2 BASIC Prada or Fendi bags every 4 months, so it's not as though it will saturate the market. BTW, I seriously mean BASIC. Like a nylon Prada or logo Fendi...nothing special, limited, current, etc.

Just wondering........
I completely agree with you. Yes, it's ODD that Costco sells designer goods, but if they're obtaining it legally, what's the problem? :shrugs:

It seems the general tone of this thread is more concerned with the idea that Costco is synonymous with cheap and low-end than the THEORY that what they're doing is illegal.

The principle isn't much different than Bluefly.com that sells discounted designer merchandise, including Chanel. Chanel doesn't have any authorized online retailers, yet Bluefly sells Chanel merchandise? Has anyone written to Chanel corporate about them?

wow, great deal....
I would jump at the chance to get discounted prices....
This is just the same as finding chanel at Off 5th, Loehmans, NM last call, filenes basement, marshalls nordstroms rack- i dont see why it would devalue chanel at all

I have seen some Cartier watches there, also, a few years back on the website I saw the LV pet carrier on line... but when I went back it was gone....they do carry prada and true religion and & & Jeans

I've seen Burberry, Prada and Coach bags at the Costco I go to. And at one time on their website, I saw Marc Jacobs and Fendi Spy bags at a great discount. I just assumed because these are the brands that have outlet stores and designers that go on sale, that's probably why Costco have them too. The ones I saw looked real enough.

I agree, although I don't think it's odd. I live in suburbia and even my local Costco sells Omega, Tag, Fendi, etc... Costco has a generous return policy and would never knowingly sell a fake. I don't see how them selling Chanel is any different than the other designers.

Personally, I love Costco and if I know I'm buying a real product, I don't care if it doesn't come with the fancy box and bow if it means I save $2K on a J12... LMAO, with that money, I can go to the boutique and purchase something else if I truly want to have the "experience".

How can this be? In the Deals/Steals there is a thread about the opening of Costco in Hawaii. It says Chanel flap bags were being sold for $2,000.

Does anyone have an explanation?
