Rookie here, hello.

After trying every measure mentioned in this thread (I've been reading it through out the day) I could not get the stains out of my White Washed Leather Linea Pelle Dylan Tote.... I threw it in the washing machine. I know this is cardinal sin #1 but I could not get my denim stains out for anything. I figured I may as well wash it and see. If it looks awful it's fate still falls in to Goodwill's hands anyhow so I can't lose. I will post images as soon as I am allowed.

I've come back to inform you all that my Line Pelle Dylan Patchwork bag has come out in great shape!! It looks SO much better. I have had it drying with a fan for about 12 hours (maybe) now.

That's great news Jess !
LP Dylan drum dyed post construction washed leather is washable so we don't follow the usual 'rules'.

Ease of care is another reason to love them !
Vegetable based soap with cool gentle cycle is best.

Before it's completely dry, make sure to smooth it back into shape. You might want to use a light conditioner made for nubuck, suede & naked leather or rain / stain protector when it's dry.

OMG... hold the phone.. I have to say this is the VERY first time I have ever heard anyone say they put a leather bag in the washing machine! WOW.. JESS.. you are a BRAVE girl! And the LP survived!!!!!!!!!! I am very glad then that I have bought another LP.

REALLY Stormy... we can "WASH" LP in a washing machine??????? I am dumbfounded.

I just ordered a Dylan medium tote in Scotch. I plan on protecting it as instructed before use. I have one question, though. Stormy, you say to not wear new denim, is darker denim that has been washed several times safe to wear? I'm asking because I've never had problems with denim transfer before on any of my bags...I've always bought darker colored leathers. Thanks in advance!

If you aren't losing color from the jeans in the wash, you should be fine. Use a color-keeper detergent, cold water and hang the jeans to air dry for best results.
Do a double coat of rain/stain protector on the back of the bag for insurance.

hi everyone,
I just got my first LP medium tote in teak today.
I saw a little stain on it, is it okay i use some cream to whipe it off first before i apply any spray on it?
Also, I am in Canada so i don't know where to get the Wilson's spray.
Does it matter if I just use the water repelent spray from the shoe store for leather shoes?
and since Vancouver rains alot, is there any good suggestion to make my LP waterproff?
Thank you in advance.

Hi Daisy, Welcome !
Cream will ruin LP leather. Try your fingernail to softly scratch the little stain out. If it's oily, rub a bit a corn starch in first.
Any Rain and Stain protector that is safe for suede is good on LP. A double coating of that will be enough protection. You cannot make them waterPROOF, only water - resistant. Carry a small microfiber cloth to blot the bag if it gets rain.

I, too, I am new to this forum. Received my first Linea Pelle purse for Christmas. I love the style (the Dylan tote) and the color (teak). Unfortunately it had about 10 dark streaks on the back of the purse from almost top to bottom (which is quiet a long streak) I think it streaked in the dyeing process. Has anyone else received a washed leather purse with the streaks? I plan to exchange it for the same style and color if I can get it without streaks. Is this a common thing with the washed leather. By the way, I just ordered the Wilson spray from their website and they are offering 20% off today and tomorrow (31st and Jan 1). Thanks for this thread. I read the whole thing and feel I am ready to be a Linea Pelle owner!

My first one Medium Tote in Teak arrived with streaks as well, I simply returned one and asked for one with out them and I got one that was much better. Some people might like the variations more then others. I am not sure if this streaking has just happened to the teak color or if others were affected. I don't think you can do anything to fix the streaking so the best thing to do is exchange it.

You're welcome ! A+ for reading the whole thread !
Streaks are very natural in washed lamb; the dye followed by the special wash gives us unique skins. No two bags are alike, which is part of the beauty of owning an LP.
(* Alyssa bags show more natural streaks than the others, having that extra organic vibe coupled with hand braided detail ~ very cool combination.)
The same variable streaks are often found on Dylans, and are less noticeable with time and normal wear, so give it time to show its softer nature. If you'd like to accelerate the process, massage the leather with your clean hands. Open the bag and pull it over your knee and rub it with long strokes with warm palms over the 'streaks'. The darker spots will soften and blend into the lighter areas as you work it. Natural variations in leather are a bonus when it comes to hiding signs of use because it all becomes part of your patina eventually.

Thanks for heads up on the Wilson's sale for those of us who need to hit it.
:welcome2: to LP land !

************f00ff]That bag is SO beautiful. The Care Card from LP says use a damp cloth with a mild water-based liquid soap. (vegetable glycerine type soap works well) The care tips here are specific for LP and we have discussed many particular concerns, but basic LP care is simple. A spray soil repellent might be a good idea for you to use after washing. You can pick up KIWI brand anywhere. (You also see Wilson's mentioned but it is very hard to find lately)
************f00ff]Tips for you are: make sure the cloth is damp, not wet. You only need a tiny amount of soap. Allow the bag to air dry away from heat sources. Follow up with a protectant spray.
************f00ff](For a really dirty bag, follow the Lexol instructions posted Oct 15)
What brand soap do u use?

I just registered and I have to say all the advice here is WONDERFUL.

I received my new LP Dylan Medium Tote and I'm in love. I'm way too nervous to use it without treating, so I hit up Wilson's and TLC can be ordered 20% off. If you do some Googling, there are also some codes for free shipping.

Thanks for all the advice on this thread ladies! I took my Dylan Medium Tote in Teak to the movies tonight and long story short we were late and in my rush I forgot to put a plastic bag on the floor before putting the bag down (yes, I do that!). The back of the bag must have landed on something sticky (maybe Coke?) and had 4 large dark spots. I freaked out but after reading this thread, I gently rubbed a damp cloth on the sticky spots and now they have almost completely disappeared. Whew!
