Help!

my cognac dylan folding tote with me. Unfortunately I fail at eating popcorn and some of it fell onto my bag, which was in my lap. Now i have like 6 buttery popcorn spots on the back!
I sprayed it with 2 coats of wilsons last week but it still has the stains.

I am planning on taking it to a reputable shoe/leather repair tomorrow but am wondering (hoping!) anyone has a magic cure to remove butter stains now!

This should have been blotted immediately and covered with cornstarch when you got home. Movie popcorn 'butter' is oil and annato (natural dye) http://www.google.com/search?q=anna...s=org.mozilla:en-US:official&client=firefox-a
Lucky for you the bag is a similar color. Give the bag a good massage after cleaning to blend in any residual marks.

I have the Apple Guard conditioner and spray. I have used that on my persimmion LP dylan tote and wallet and even when it dried it left the leather a shade or two darker. I am now going to buy the Wilson's spray.

I just got a small black pen mark (dot) on the botton of my cognac dylan shoulder bag. What should I use to get it out? I don't want to use my Apple cleaner and conditioner. Thanks!!

You are right to avoid Apple c&c.
Ink will permeate leather fibers deeply so the sooner you get it out, the better. If the stain is not fresh, pinch and fingernail scrape then use a soft regular eraser; work gently and you may get most of it out. LP is dyed through so you won't end up lightening the area.
There are specific ink removers made for leather that you could try. Even your own spit on ink (if you do it right away) works because it has digestive enzymes. You'll need to go over it with a damp cloth after.
The key to any liquid or damp ink removal process is BLOT don't rub !
You don't want to force a stain deeper into leather. :smile1:

I'm looking for suggestions on how to soften the handles on a new BCA tote. I love it, but would love it more if the handles were less stiff! Thanks for your suggestions!

Hiya Stacy !

Some of the Dylans were made with extra stiff PVC tubing wrapped in leather~ The BCAs, the Holiday Dylans, and the LIMEs from the Sample Sale. There is no way to 'soften' or break-in that hard plastic.

SOOOOOOO

I opened the stitches from each end and removed the tubing. It was not too difficult on the BCA but the Limes are glued and riveted in so the entire length of each strap needs to be opened and restitched ! I replaced the PVC with a nice thick silky poly rope from Home Depot. After measuring and cutting the rope, I burn the ends to seal (keeps it from untwisting). Then I slip the new rope in, and sew up the ends with a special thin blunt needle using the existing needle holes. (you cannot make new needle holes without tearing the leather)
You might find a softer PVC tubing, or roll fabric if you don't want to use rope, which has a braided texture that you can feel in the handles. I like it; it is a comfortable grip. The handles stay VERY well on the shoulder now and are extremely comfortable.
You can ask a Leather Shop to do this for you. It must be done by hand, and the lambskin is delicate. Where the straps are glued and riveted, it takes a Pro's touch. I meant to put up photos of my BCA after modification, and have finished one more, with 2 in progress and two more on the wait list.

I really love my Dylans with soft straps!

Hi, does anyone have any experience dying LP leather? I have a Pumpkin double-pocket messenger (Dylan line) that has been SO well-used that it's actually fading around the corners, where the leather is bent and stressed... I know some people have had luck dying other leathers, but I was wondering if the washed leathers could even BE dyed? (I don't really want to change the color, just brighten it up and cover the places where it's faded.) Thanks!

^^DON'T. EVEN. THINK. ABOUT. IT. If that's where you're headed, just send the bag to me.

:roflmfao: On principle? Because you'd love it more? ;) I'll post pics once I get a new battery. I LOVE the style, and love the color, but it just looks dingy and faded, not dirty... I bought it pretty heavily used, and have used it as a knock-around carry-all quite a bit. Have cleaned it twice and protected it... It was just a passing thought!

A good question was raised regarding our sun's effect on leather appearance. This set me on a mission to find something we can use to preserve rich saturated LP color. I have not experienced color fade of my own LPs, but have seen some that have. so...

I have been researching water based UV protection that's safe to use on LP leather. (Nearly all available leather UV protection is contraindicated for unfinished aka Naked, washed, Nubuck and suede leathers) Over the past two weeks I tested 3 options with controls.
LP bags, belt and bracelets should be carefully stored in dust bags and never over exposed to sunlight! We need a little help here, especially for the blues, turquoise, purple, reds and pinks. ALL naturally tanned/dyed and aniline leathers are photosensitive.

*On vegtan leather the color change/darkening is desirable; we call this patina.

Symptoms of UV exposure are fading, discoloration, and (possibly uneven) darkening that's not dirt...

*Always wipe your bags off after use, to prevent dirt particles from settling in the leather,
I have warned against creamy, oily leather conditioners but if a bag has been previously owned, or otherwise mistreated with such products OR if you use hand lotion, it will certainly attract dirt, dust, smog, car exhaust, grime etc. Regular cleansing can fix this overall darkening,

For everyone who wants to preserve her colors, especially those in extra sunny locations, I can now confidently recommend a best UV solution.
I am very pleased that I found LeatherMagic UV Protectant. It has an SPF of 188 ! It does not change the texture, finish or appearance when applied as a simple FINAL step; after any other cleansing, conditioning and Rain/Stain repellent sprays.

You all know that I only make suggestions based on my personal work.

From my hands to yours ~ Stormy

Hi All,
I'm pretty new here...

I have the most strangest thing on my LP dylan zip tote in black.
I noticed that on the back of my bag there is this long line, that in certain light you can see it!
I know it sounds kinda of weird....
But does this sound familiar to any of you?
:graucho:
