hello! i have the dylan folding tote in cognac. i got it last month and carried it the same day because i was so excited and could not wait. i did not think i would hav had to pretreat my bag because 1. i have never pretreat a bag and 2. i did not think i would ever had to. so now, i totally regret not doing so with my dylan. the first day i carried my bag i wore a long navy blue dress. the next day when i saw my bag i noticed that one side of the bag was blue...(my dress had colored my bag :s) i tried to take the color off with water and some of the color did come off. is there something else i can do to remove the color? another question after learning the hard way i bought the wilson TLC that every one has been talking about. since i have a stain on my bag is it safe to use or i need to remove the stain before using it? thank you all for ur help.
Oh NO ! you need to spray before NOT after stains ! The problem is the the dress with blue dye, not your LP bag, so you re in luck. Search this thread for washing and protection instructions for your bag: she'll be OK. After cleaning you may use the TLC.... If you have further questions, check back here,
For blue or black colored clothing wash instructions: ALWAYS wash in cold water with double rinse before wear !

I have read through this thread several times and can't find an answer to my question. I just purchased a used angie speedy in aubergine from ebay and while it is in decent shape, the gunmetal hardware is a bit scratched and oxidized. Is there anything I can do? I'm aware of using brasso on brass hardware but this is gunmetal,

TIA!

Angie Hardware is intentionally darkened, that is what gunmetal IS... it is oxidized. What exactly are you asking ? Do you want to change the look entirely ?
Please post pictures.
If you want to buff out little scratches, just use a ruby cloth, ( it will smooth and lighten/brighten the gunmetal )
Save your Brasso for shiny gold colored brass hardware. Barkeeper's Friend works on brass and steel and is my preference. These products should never touch leather !

So i just read through the entire thread (yikes! haha) which is super helpful. I'm planning on getting the Wilsons leather and suede protector spray for my new cognac dylan folding tote. However, my question is:
Is the 4 oz. pump enough to do three coats on the folding tote? (there's a lot of surface area there..) Or should i get the 10 oz. aerosol can instead? (would rather not, as its bad for the environment)
Thanks!

Hey girls, i jsut got an oil stain on my one and only linea pelle :( Im not sure of the name of it, but it is a cross body bag in a coral kind of color, it is similar to the dylan bag. So anyways it hasnt been treated and I need some advice on how to get the stain out, i was being clumsy and some food from my plate fell onto the bag :( Any help would be appreciated. TIA

I agree non-aerosols are better for the planet. Just shake well, and spray lightly and evenly. (The pump takes a little more effort than the aerosol) You should have plenty ~ I estimate a full coat is 1 1/2 oz per bag of tote size if applied properly (no soak). Two coats are enough. The idea is to attain complete coverage. I have never done more than a single good application overall, with a second coat for handles, bottom and near pockets.
Thank you for taking time to read the whole thread. I am glad you find it helpful and interesting.
**** Welcome to LP love !

Try rubbing corn starch on the stain to pull out the oil, repeat if needed, follow up with massaging the entire area to blend in the mark. LP leather has natural oil that will come to the surface and this spot will just become part of the natural markings look we love !
May there be many more LP in your future.

This thread is so helpful! I just ordered a Dylan tote in black and I'm so excited! I think I'll pre-treat it, even though it's dark, just because I'm worried about rain. I don't have the Wilson's product, but I do have Apple Garde. I only saw it mentioned briefly on this thread. Has anyone else used it? Stormy, any thoughts?

Mary, please try to find Wilsons or Kiwi/Meltonian sprays to protect your LPs.

I am glad the thread is of benefit to you, thanks.
And welcome !

I just fell in love and bought my first LPs at the last sample sale a few weeks ago, but I've run into a problem!

One of the rivets on the bottom on my BCA Tote sample (in black) has fallen off.

I still have it but whatever was holding it on the back end has disappeared into the interior so I am not sure how to fasten it back on.

The rivet also fastens the leather tab on, so now that's flapping a bit...

any ideas, oh LP experts? Thanks in advance.

You need a replacement. The original cannot be reused. I have replaced rivets and studs by opening the lining, fishing out the old one, putting on the new pieces, then restitching the seam. Special tools are used. Your local Cobbler should be able to help you. (Ask him if he has the hardware, a 3/8 shiny brass rivetback dome stud.) Do not try to superglue it back together. The parts lock into each other. A simple brass rivet can also to used for functionality if he doesn't happen to have the match. These are easier to install, self locking with a hammer tap/ whap.
I think Syb has had real life repairs done by LP in LA, so she can tell you how that works. Have you asked LP to exchange the bag ?

I treated my Long dylan speedy in smoke yesterday with three coats of Kiwi Protect All. I'm hoping to use this bag as an everyday bag. I normally use synthetic bags as everyday bags here in Vancouver because of the weather.

Stormy, how much of Vancouver's rainy weather do you think my treated speedy can take since I've treated it with the Protect All?

Hello MBear ! Your Smoky should be fine in weather now that you have given her a healthy dose of Kiwi. I'd carry a good plastic bag to slip it into for downpours, but use a microfiber cloth to blot rain from it after exposure. If it gets pretty wet, empty the bag and allow to air dry naturally before respraying. Remember this is not waterproof, but is protected. Washed leather is not afraid of rain, even in Vancouver.

Thanks Stormy! I took it out for a test run today. The rain practically slid right off the bag. Thanks!

I have the Apple Guard conditioner and spray. I have used that on my persimmion LP dylan tote and wallet and even when it dried it left the leather a shade or two darker. I am now going to buy the Wilson's spray.

I just got a small black pen mark (dot) on the botton of my cognac dylan shoulder bag. What should I use to get it out? I don't want to use my Apple cleaner and conditioner. Thanks!!

Help!

I went and saw Bruno tonight (very funny btw) and brought my cognac dylan folding tote with me. Unfortunately I fail at eating popcorn and some of it fell onto my bag, which was in my lap. Now i have like 6 buttery popcorn spots on the back!
I sprayed it with 2 coats of wilsons last week but it still has the stains.

I am planning on taking it to a reputable shoe/leather repair tomorrow but am wondering (hoping!) anyone has a magic cure to remove butter stains now!
