The old school Cambridge Satchels are really popular lately and I was wondering what every one thought about them...

I reallyyy want one but am not sure if it's a good long term investment, is this going to go down as just another outdated trend in a year or two?

also does anyone know of any mustard yellow satchels like this one from Urban Outfitters, but in real leather? other subdued shades would be of interest to me too:smile1:

I love the look and I think it's a classic! I prefer the ones that don't actually buckle though, since that would be a pain to get in and out of. I have one made by Fossil.

I loved my Mulberry Alexa Satchel in Ink so much that I got the Watermelon one as well. It's such a comfortable bag to wear and can be acorss body, on shoulder or a hand bag. I really love it, it's the perfect bag!

It really depends on your style. I think it is one of those things that you should only buy if you would like it no matter if it was on trend or not. Personally, I like them and have thought about getting one, but if you aren't usually a satchel type of person, then I would probably pass on it.

I love satchels but not specially keen on the Cambridge ones. They look too stiff and most of them don't have handles (because they're meant to look 'school'.) However I have a lovely soft tan Scaramanga one that can be worn across body, and a number of others that aren't the trad type (like Balenciaga Twiggy, Treesje Asher and a Dolce and Gabbana pebbled leather.) I think the Cambridge satchels are 'trendy', but that shouldn't stop anyone buying what they really like.

Thanks everyone, yes I think I'll go for a more subdued color! I really want one but it will be a little new for me since I don't have any messenger-style bags or even any 'stiff' bags yet. this is exciting, I haven't bought a purse since my francesco biasia over a year ago.. :D

I don't really prefer the one listed but I am a fan of some other interpretations including the Mulberry Alexa, the Proenza Schouler PS1 and this little suede version from the Gap...I think the details and materials make all the difference.

They are nice, really old school but too structured. I love leather for their slouchiness but Cambridge Satchel is just too hard for me to accept. I feel like I am carrying a cardboard box around, no offence!
