Wow, quite the collection I see!
I'm considering both box and lizard calvis. Have your box and lizard shown any signs of wear? Particularly curious about lizard over time since I've heard that lizard is a very delicate hermes exotic leather. Any deep scratches on the box leather?
I love both my calvis in box and lizard. Both leathers are relatively stiff and hold their shape. I have had scratches on the box leather, and still have some scratches on it. Over time, some scratches will smoothen out a bit and blend in with more with the leather, but by then new scratches might appear again. Not for the faint-hearted who wants a pristine surface/look but for one who likes the character of a box leather, especially when it has developed a patina - though it probably takes years for box leather to develop it.

Lizard is my favourite exotic leather. The surface is not as delicate as box, but I am still rather careful with it as a deep scratch would probably be irreparable.

Hi

I hope to find out if anyone owns a card case and using it as a credit card case. If so, how many credit cards can it hold?

Thanks.
I can easily fit 16 credit cards in total in the two sides of my Calvi. One side has cards for purchasing items while the other side has things like my drivers license, insurance cards, membership cards --and there's still room for about half a dozen USD bills folded in fourths.

Oh thats very interesting. I cannot believe someone would decline a special order that they designed themselves lol. And not to mention that ombre lizard is a beautiful exotic and pattern. Congrats on that lizard calvi!
How long have you had this Calvi now, and any signs of wear or damage?
Apparently lizard is delicate?
Thank you! I’ve had it for over two years now. It still looks brand new- no visible scratches, etc. I don’t use it on a daily basis and in general most of my items are kept in good condition. When I do use it, it’s definitely not being tossed into my Mary Poppins endless pit work tote, but I’m sure it’s also been closer to keys than one would like to see or admit. However I think it’s wearing and aging better than my Chevre pieces (which I still love).

Was offered this Béton matte alligator Calvi in Singapore on a summer trip in August.
I was just offered this exact gator Calvi yesterday (in Beton and also in another color as well), and still debating. Can I ask what are your impressions of it?
Does it wear easily? Is it delicate?
Do you own Calvis in other leathers (regular or exotic) to compare it to?

Aside from the price, which almost gave me a heart attack...lol ($3k, yikes!) :panic: I want make sure it's the right piece for me.

I really like the exotic calvis, but it’s just not justifiable for me. I started my H journey in January 2023, and don’t think I am willing to pay that much for a card holder. Perhaps, i would be okay with ostrich as it’s not as expensive. I heard gator is pretty durable and long lasting, but it just can’t get wet. Same with a lot of exotics. And, I don’t own any other calvis, but im thinking of getting one.

Oh so I’ve heard. Do you have a picture of the patina?
I'll try to steal it out of his pocket haha! I have a picture of it new somewhere, but since it looks exactly like the Euclide I accidentally posted (and was so swiftly told off about ;)) there's no point in finding the Calvi image :)
Basically matte gator patinas to a soft shine; I have a fauve matte Birkin posted in the exotics ref thread that's a good example.

Oh I must have misunderstood your above post.
When you said you were offered it, I took it as you actually bought it? But I see you passed on it.

Beautiful though they might be. . .

The almost heart attack price is difficult to reconcile.
The differential over 'standard' skins is in the region of x10, whereas that for a bag is more like x3.
With a bag there is a lot more 'handling' involved, larger unblemished skins have to be sourced and matched. In simple terms a Calvi just has to be stamped out with a die, folded and secured with one press-stud fastening.

What is the best entry-level Hermes piece becomes very much the opposite
