Buying expensive handbags superficial or more of a hobby?

Lol. Well that doesn't sound like forever. If I'm not mistaken. The military travels a lot and you get a lot more access to things then most ppl and good deals. So I wouldn't give it a second thought. You should have your fair share of opportunities very very soon.

I could have done with out the fabulous travels to Oklahoma. lol.

What "good deals" are you referring to? You mean the 15% off at Old Navy you get once a month?

We're hoping we get to go somewhere fun when we're finished here. I have my fingers crossed for Germany! I thoughts are that nothing could be worse, than here, though, so we can only go up! Haha.

Lol. Yeah but Germany has good shopping for the military. Hey do you know if Louis Vuitton gives discounts in Germany?

I have no idea...do designers give military discounts??

OMG Have I been missing out on discounts!?

Edited to add: My husband went to Germany last year..I can't remember where, but he said the shopping was amazing. I "woudl have been in Heaven" according to him. lol.

Lol. That's what I heard too. I wanna go one day.

It's an expensive hobby?

Well, I buy everything at a discount so it's less expensive than for some people. But it's just an obsession of mine, I feel that a bag can complete your look, especially because I spend hardly any money on designer clothes or accessories, I have simple clothes that are good enough quality for me and my bags are simple, well-designed and functional. I absolutely despise canvas, printed stuff, or any of those fabric and in your face bags.

Whatever floats your boat :-)

I own only 4 designer bags - two YSL's, one Celine and a Lanvin, and I bought all of the barring the Celine at a discount of north of 60%. I don't own any Chanels or LV's or Hermes', and don't think I ever will either. I don't buy to show off, if anything, I feel terribly self-conscious when I carry my expensive bags on special occasions (and they ARE reserved only for special occasions; I don't carry my chyc cab as when I'm on my coffee run). I don't but 'it' bags, I don't buy monogrammed ones ; I buy bags which I personally find beautiful.

The thing is, to an extent, you get what you pay for. Sure, some brands are outrageously marked up, but personally, I don't find the idea of spending $750-$900 on a beautiful leather bag which will last me decades a silly thing to do. We probably spend more on ephemeral things like booze, cigarettes, food, night-outs, make-up etc in one calendar year, and these things last for what… a couple of hours at the most? Sure, you can get a canvas bag for $20, but it's hardly going to last or look good ten years down the road, is it?

Aw, come on! I can't be the only one on this forum who likes to show off. Yes, I love the quality and elegance of designer bags, but I also get a real kick when someone recognizes that I'm carrying a Fendi or a Prada. Sometimes I don't mind being deeply superficial.

LOL. I appreciate your honesty. I thought surely someone had to be! I am not superficial now but I was when I was younger. I didn't really know myself so I didn't know any other way to be.

I don't buy premiere designers; I buy quality leather bags, belts, shoes/boots. They are essential to my wardrobe because without them, I would have the most boring ensemble one could imagine. I've posted it about it a few other places on tPF and why so I'm not going to go into here.

I won't buy fakes; I just would not feel right wearing them. But I would never feel like it's any of my business what other ppl spend their money on! Heavens no.

I live in a region where ppl carry real Coach, fake Coach, real LV, fake LV, and Walmart and Target handbags. I've only seen ONE Dooney and Bourke Florentine Satchel and you know how popular those are! The most interesting, $$ designer bag that I've seen in my area is a MJ Stam.

I was in NYC recently and saw ppl wearing everything which was kinda neat; that is the hobby part. I was seeing how many different bags I could spot as we walked around. My sister thought it was so funny. She is not into bags. I saw a Birkin and told her how much they can cost and she about fell over. I saw lots of street vendors but none with bags, so I figured they had come down on counterfeits pretty well in NYC. Then Saturday morning came and they were set up every few blocks.

Does everyone in NYC own a Burberry scarf, real or fake? That is what I want to know. LOL

Lol. I get a good kick out of seeing them too.
