Buy/sell in Facebook groups?

I’ve sold a VCA piece on FB and it was the easiest transaction with the best possible payment. It was sold within an hour of posting it, and I was paid via PP (friends & fam). My DH was convinced that my transaction wouldn’t turn out so well and that the outcome was too good to be true. He was wrong (thankfully). Also, PP friends & fam is beneficial to the seller, not buyer. Buyer has no protection when paying via FF because PP considers the transaction a payment to a trusted friend, not a business transaction.

If you don't want to do the hard work, selling to FP and the likes is easy because you just need to wait to get paid once they receive your item. Yes there's a high possibility of getting a low-ball offer but sometimes they make a good offer. Even if your item is pristine, don't expect to receive a close to retail offer. They are a business and they have an overhead to account for. All the items I sent to FP were new and pristine and I still lost a good percentage but payout was guaranteed. One duplicate item I sold to FP actually got me $250 more than retail and I was really surprised.

As for selling in FB groups, always use PayPal invoicing NOT Friends & Family. PayPal invoicing gives you seller protection because the item is sold as a business transaction and they also charge you a small fee. If you do Friends & Family, there's no PayPal fee but there's also no seller protection so if someone vicious is scamming you, you'll be out of money and/or the item.

Do what's best for you and be careful if you're selling on your own
I think I will submit to fashionphile and see what they offer me. I noticed they have very few classic speedy 30s in DE currently, so maybe they will want mine even more. I recently sold a Gucci bag on eBay and it made me nervous but all went well. Didn’t know about the PayPal designation, friends and family vs business, so thank you for that tip!

Interesting, thank you for sharing your experience!

I might just see what FP would offer for your bag. The market is inundated at the moment
& you just never know what the offer will be I would see what their offer is & then explore other options.
If you are not in a hurry to sell your bag & should it turn out that FP doesn't give
the offer you were expecting try re-submitting the offer.. sometimes the second go around
with FP turns out to be better..
ANd should you decide to sell on Facebook, EverSo Elusive gave you good advice
I’ll try fashionphile today. I tried to submit a Gucci bag a month or so ago and I never heard back but ended up selling it on eBay for a good price. Maybe they’ll be more excited to give me a quote on my speedy. Thanks!

^^ Not accurate! PayPal doesn't offer seller protection except for INR and in those cases, an item must be shipped, shipped to the address associate with the PP transaction and if $750 or more, tracking MUST include s.c.

Otherwise, receiving payment through goods and services is only beneficial to the buyer.

Paypal offers NO protection to the seller against SNAD whether a valid dispute or not.

As for Facebook groups, safety is only as "safe" as the integrity of the group, sellers and admin.

As both a buyer and as a seller, I feel safer using a platform that offers real protection and that protection has a value, value for which I'm willing to pay fees.

Just curious if people have had positive experiences. I joined one group and there seems to be very reasonable deals and strict rules…. But I guess I’m still skeptical?
Not sure why I feel this way about Facebook groups + selling stuff…. I bought my HORSES from Facebook ads so maybe I should be more trusting??
I don’t see much chatter about it so I was just wondering about people’s thoughts…

somehow a person selling a horse appears to be more trustworthy than one selling a bag, idk.
I personally would not buy anything Hermes from Facebook or instagram, but I’m old and cantankerous that way. If you do so, I would advise fee based paypal backed by Amex and the usual precaution of having @bababebi or reputable other authenticate by photo prior to purchase. I don’t think @haute okole buys from them either, but I believe that she might be more familiar, so am tagging her here. Good luck! If you find the deal of the century please tag me so I can celebrate your good fortune

I don’t think I would pull the trigger on anything Hermes… I still am nervous buying it from somewhere like FP haha.
There were several Gucci bags that were priced way better than some resale sites- so even though I don’t *need* them, I thought about it.
The whole reason I joined was to sell some bags that aren’t moving on Poshmark, but I haven’t gotten that far either.

**and horse people on FB are crazy and many are untrustworthy

@880 thanks for the tag. @KPCoppola, I am on the Hermes FB page for Shiz and giggles. This is the latest offering. Hahahaha! Needless to say, I would never buy a QB on FB. EVER.

I’m tagging @ExoticsOnly who will find this faux croc Birkin you posted appalling and who has found all sorts of fake croc lady Diors.

ETA: the rodeo is a recalcitrant mule

I am an admin for one of the brand-specific BSTs on Facebook. Because the brand is relatively obscure, most of us know each other within our little community, and perhaps that is why there are shockingly few problems with transactions. Bags change hands there all the time, and I can count on one hand the number of ripoff complaints we've ever had.

With the rise of scams and robberies happens in 1 to 1 transactions, and now there are so many apps offer buyer seller protections, I don’t see the necessity to buy and sell high priced Designer items on facebook, inexpensive stuff is fine such as items valued at couple of hundreds

These aren’t marketplace transactions like selling furniture in person (which I’ve done, haha)- they are sort of like brand(s) specific groups with transactions taking place over PP, etc. So I think there is still some buyer protection depending on the app used.
It just seems like another way to market your bags or search for bags without the high commission or inundated market of Poshmark or eBay imo.
I haven’t sold anything yet because there are a ton of rules for posting- and many more pics needed and I’ve been lazy :P

Thank you for explanation, I did know the selling method (besides in person transition), I had joined a couple like 7, 8 whatever years ago, can't remember exact time. I was saying, selling with a middle man like apps / other sites offers are safer.

I understand the high commission, yes, painful to pay that much especially when losing money. It's very much depends on the person I guess, such as I don't dare sell anything expensive without some sort of protection while others would ship thousands dollars bags in plain USPS shipping method, it's just me, I'm too scared of losing haha.
