Butler leather, has anybody experienced with this leather?

Now that this thread is revived, and that I've had my butler constance for almost 6 months, I'll share my thoughts on this leather and hope that it'll help some that are considering bags in this leather.

It is by far the smoothest leather I've experienced. Tadelakt, box, swift all feel grainy compared to butler. The touch is heavenly. It almost feels buttery if not compared to a well-loved barenia. The reason why I don't think it's as buttery is that barenia feels more "moist" than butler when compared side by side. It does show scratches easily like barenia or box -- more similar to box because a new barenia looks drier so it doesn't resemble as much, but so far in my experience, they all disappear after some rubbing. Butler feels plump.

2 potential drawbacks of this leather are, 1) limited color options -- so far I only heard of 2 colors offered 2) need to be careful of dents due to the plump nature. I squeezed my butler constance in my carry-on and possibly the buckle of my luggage scale was pressed against the leather for too long so that left a visible dent on my bag. I haven't got to use my constance since I spotted it because I've been using my big bags lately, so I'm not sure yet if rubbing / interacting with the leather by using it / allowing it to rest would help. But it does seem to be slowly recovering from that incident. I'll try to report back in a few month time.

All in all, I'll still take a bag in butler any day as long as it's an interesting color.
Thanks for sharing your precious experiences

Vache Natural! I totally forgot I have this leather to do some comparison as well. I have to admit I’m a tad wary to use this leather. On both maiden voyages of the butler and vache natural, it rained. I wiped off the water drops as soon as possible but the vache natural really doesn’t like water and the leather turned cloudy while butler left no trace. I should mention though my butler is in a darker color.

I took a photo of the butler (Constance strap), barenia (halzan strap), and vache natural (Jige border) to show you what I meant by butler being plump. Keep in mind that Constance straps are constantly rubbing against the metal rings so they do wear faster and will look more distressed than the other 2 by the nature of their designs. (Plus I’ve only used the vache natural 3x)

I hope the photo comes out well to show you. Left to right: butler, barenia, vache natural.

I'm adding some photo here to bring this lovely leather to attention. Having had my moka constance for nearly an year, I had no hesitation as soon as I saw it stated that the color of the roulis is natural sable. A butler!!! Before the box was even opened, my mind has already made up, and when the box was opened, I gasped. Now the request to my SA is "please let me know whenever you have bags in butler!!!" That is how much I love this leather.

Here's my butler Duo. Moka & Natural Sable. It might look a bit fuzzy on constance but it's just my iPhone not being able to capture reflection well when it's so bright. It's so smooth like butter IRL, and scratches do get rubbed away. Ah!!!! I love them so much!!!!

Hope to hear more people update how their butler bags evolve now that we know a few of us have purchased Kelly and maybe in the future will own 2002 with this leather.

Absolutely gorgeous bags! Would love to add Butler to my little collection.

I was shown a Constance 18 in Butler Leather about ten days ago at my local H store & can’t get it out of my mind. My SA did not recommend it because of the delicacy of the leather. I appreciate her objectivity & hoping the urge to buy it passes. I think the leather enhances the beauty of this Constance.

I can only imagine how beautiful it must be in person. I still remember how impressed I was when I saw my roulis, which is in the same color, being unboxed. I haven't used my roulis (natural sable) as extensively as my constance (moka) yet because I haven't had it long enough so I can't speak about the color. But my moka constance is really a work horse and I don't babe it at all. I had an SA once told me that I should babe barenia, definitely no water. I only use my barenia bags if I know it's going to rain. I was just telling my SA the other day please let me know if he gets any butler bags. My favorite H leathers for understated colors are the 3B - barenia, box, butler. How I wish that constance were at our boutique!!! :frown: But that's me. You need to feel comfortable with your bag. Whether you take it or not. it's eye candy, isn't it? :hbeat::hbeat:

It was total eye candy. Love at first sight![emoji169] I have various Hermès leathers & prefer smooth. I baby all my bags so it would not be an adjustment for me! The sheer pleasure of looking at her was an enjoyable experience! I’m going to give it a few more days deliberation & if I still feel the same as I do now, I’m going to buy it!

I was offered exactly the same bag. No regrets, i love mine to bits. Have worn it a few times since. I just dont bring her out during rainy days. But ive notice that light scratches dissapear over time. Has anyone experienced this?

Yes, light scratches disappeared on mine too. It also rained on the first day I took my constance out and it was fine. Wiped it when I was back home. No issue.
