It looks like the pre-90's and even some early 90's box calfs had that "buttery feel" to it. Is the difference as dramatic between a 1996 and 2007 box calf? I'm buying my first box soon and am debating between them! Would really appreciate any input!

It's hard to say because it depends on how these bags have been used and taken care of (or not as the case maybe). Also just in case it wasn't mentioned before, most, if not all of the members on this thread have treated their bags at home or at the H spa to maintain and/or improve the condition of the leather. I certainly have at home and it's made all the difference to my bags. But that's an added bonus of box to me - that I can actively maintain its beauty myself.

I agree it depends what kind of look and feel you want. In my limited experience the older box leather is 'better' in terms of quality/look/feel provided it hadn't been abused of course :p

Excellent point! You have a few box bags so you should know dear coco. :smile1:have you posted a comparison shots, I don't seem to be able to find it. I only have one green box and one black so very hard to compare as not enough range.

Here are my three of four box bags. The Plume is 1995, the Constance is 1970 and the Kelly is 1964. I have another 1964 box Kelly that has been out for repair since April, grrrr.... You gals are super creative with your styling, I'm not and am having issues with picture size. Here is one pic, will post another in a bit.

Here is another shot, tried to get the shine but just wasn't coming through. Now I'm looking for a 1980 era bag so I have all decades covered, haha...

Oh that is a gorgeous trio. From the pic I would have thought the Constance is older than the Kelly because how plush it looks. The Kelly's patina is just gorgeous.

Sorry for the wrong info but my Constance is 1980, not 70, I have no idea why I thought 70 because it's J in a circle, pretty obvious... Sorry folks, silly error.

I was wrong on my Constance date, it's actually 1980. But you're right, it is shinier than my Kelly by a bit. Hard to capture the patina on my Kelly, angles just weren't working for me.

By the way Jadeite, your bags are to die for!!! It's collections like yours that made me love box calf, meant to comment when I first saw your post.

Thank you. We share the same interests in this thread and it's great to see beautiful bags that each here has so generously shared.

Wow, what stunning bags. That Kelly is in absolutely amazing shape - which red is that? Is it Rouge H? Seeing how much we love geeking out on box calf in this thread, I'm tempted to start a "Rouge H nerds" thread next :graucho:

Yes, Rouge H and like you, I looooove that color. My Kelly was lovingly cared for and maintained but did have a few issues, worn corners and faded and cracked handle. But thanks to Docrides thread and guidance, she's perfect for me. I have a small lizard skin bag in Rouge H as well and almost bought a box Trim in RH, something about that depth of color speaks to me.

Yes, if you started a Rouge H nerds threads, you'd have many devotees - heck it was some bags on TPF that made me lust after that color in box calf. Thanks for starting this thread, I look forward to new posts.
